Over the decades I've been watching, "The American Experience" has had so many dizzying highs that all in all it's probably my favorite TV show. I just pulled out an old video I made the other day of an American Experience that aired back in 1987, called "James Agee & Walker Evans: Let Us Now Praise Famous Men" about the monumental prose poem & photographs of the same name (of which I have a first edition!).

But I also love or loved:

Wonderful World of Disney
Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies
I Love Lucy
Firing Line
Mystery PBS
Lawrence Welk

I don't really watch much in the way of television, but when I do watch I've been known to sit through entire episodes of:

Current

MTV -

Cribs
Pimp My Ride
Room Raiders

VH1 -

Surreal Life
reruns of America's Next Top Model (no idea why)
Celebrity Fit Club
Hogan Knows Best
Behind the Music (though new episodes are few and far between)

Animal Planet -

All time favorites shows

Black Adder
Night Court
Roseanne
Ren and Stimpy
Mr. Bean
Married With Children
Murphy Brown
Daria
Nash Bridges
Queer As Folk

And I say we start a petition to tell VH1 to bring back Pop Up Video and Rock and Roll Jeopardy. I miss those shows.

You're welcome. :)

Who do I think The Carver is? Well, there are some truly insane peeps out there who think it's Liz with a strap-on, which I find utterly ridiculous. I think it's Adrian, personally; I definitely don't think he's dead. But I also read that Alec Baldwin is coming back for a huge story arc, so it might be him. Or it could be Ava since she's coming back. Or I could be completely wrong and it could be Joan Rivers since she's coming back, too. But I'll stick with Adrian. :D

Has anyone ever watched "Popular"? It is from the same guy that created Nip/Tuck, but in my opinion this show is even better than Nip/Tuck. It used to come on the WB years ago but was canceled within two seasons. Thank God for TV on DVD!!! I've been watching all the episodes this week and it truely was one of the funniest, most original shows of our time. So, I'm going to say that is my favorite "modern show".

I Love Lucy is my favorite "classic". I can watch Lucy and Ethel scheme all day long! Does that sound lame? I also love Three's Company and The Jeffersons, but I've found that those episodes are not as good for repeated viewings. I Love Lucy is a show that I can watch over and over again though.

I Love Friends and Seinfeld of course. I still can't decide which show I like better. Friends is funnier, but Seinfeld is smarter...

Underappreciated shows include Dead Like Me and Freaks and Geeks. Love both of those shows!!!

And as far as sitcoms go, I loved Veronica's Closet (with Kirstie Alley) and Suddenly Susan (Brooke Shields and Kathy Griffin).

As far as shows that are on today, I love Desperate Housewives, Nanny 911, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List, Joey, What Not to Wear, Passions, Nip/Tuck, and Stacked.

One last shout out to Sex and the City, because it is truely LOL funny and the camera work, etc. is beautiful which is refreshing to see on a half hour sitcom.

That's funny. I actually rented the first season off Netflix and finished it this week, because I've heard it was supposed to be awesome. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I liked the beginning episodes, but later all the stupid fantasy sequences and stuff just got out of hand.

I've heard the second season was terrible. Even the actors (Tammy Lynn Michaels and the girl who plays Mary Cherry specifically) have talked about it being inconsistent and crap.

See, I don't like the first few episodes because they are lacking the crazy scenes. To me, that is the appeal of the show. The absolute insane storylines are what I love about the show.

Actually, if you liked the more soapy/dramatic first few episodes you might really like the second season because they tone down the fantasy sequences and focus on more serious storylines like Homelessness, cancer, eating disorders, etc. I actually prefer the second season because it is more soapy but still mixes in a lot of humour.

I loved Popular. It was probably my favorite show at the time when it was on. I was so disappointed it was cancelled after only 2 seasons while there is so much junk that is on year after year, especially teen shows. The writing was brilliant and the young actors were all very talented in their own right. It had serious elements and a perfect balance of comedy. I love when I see any of those actors on TV or in the movies. Sarah Rue seems to have come the longest way having her own show and doing that night of a thousand stevies movie and all.

It's hard to believe Tammy Lynne Michaels ended up marrying Melissa Ethridge! I never would have believed it if you told me that while she was on the show. They seem so happy though...good for them :).

You know, I think Popular might still be on the air today if they didn't move it to Friday nights. I think most of Popular's audience doesn't stay home to watch TV on Fridays, so the show got horrible ratings and was canceled. Which is a shame... the show rocked! Mary Cherry was my favorite and Bobbby Glass... They just say the most insane things on that show. I think it was a show that you either got it or you didn't.

I was really shocked when I found out Tammy Lynn was a Lesbian. I thought I had really goood gaydar, but apparently not. I never would have guessed it in a million years. I wish Tammy would do some more stuff though. She really hasn't done anything substatial since Popular (unless you count a couple episodes of The L Word)

Does anyone remember a tv series from the late 70's called Flying High? I remember watching it a few times, and that it was about flight attendants.

I think it was canceled after only two or three airings. Connie Selleca (Mrs. John Tesh) was one of the flight attendants, if I recall correctly.

Hayley, what on earth happened between Rori and Lorelei? I am getting that Rory left Yale and did something illegal but I don't know why she left or what she did. I don't know how she wound up living with her grandparents and I don't know why she's not talking to her mother!

I am finally watching this show but I'm still lost about what is going on with those two.

Last night was pretty good, I hope she gets rid of that BF. Lorelei is insane, just pick a color already!

I can't say I've ever watched a full episode of King of Queens, but the Germans just love it. I saw an episode of the German version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? a couple of years ago, and when the contestant mentioned that he worked as a script translator for Kings of Queens, the audience just went nuts.

They also apparently love Home Improvement, the first two seasons of which have just been released on DVD under the title Hoer mal, wer da haemmert, or, roughly, "Listen up to who's hammering here!"

Rory & Lorelai's split... hmm, let's see. So, last year Rory was interning for Logan's dad, a newspaper magnate. He basically told her that she'd make a great assistant but would never be any good as a journalist, and she took it way too seriously. Decided to get destructive and stole a boat with Logan and got caught, and also decided that she wasn't going to go back to Yale, since all her journalism dreams were crushed, etc. And Logan's family basically thinks she's trash, too.

Lorelai went to the grandparents to ask them to back her in a plan to get Rory back to Yale and on the right track, and they agreed to it. But then Rory went to them as well with her own plan, and they completely screwed over Lorelai by deciding to help Rory, let her live in the poolhouse and not go to Yale. So none of them have been talking at all. Lor refuses to support Rory's decision, she's talking a little with her dad, but hangs up on Emily at any opportunity. Only in the last couple of weeks have the grandparents figured out that Lorelai was right, about Rory, the Huntzbergers, the whole thing.

I've actually been upset the way they've been showing Logan lately. He's NEVER been like that on the show the way he was last night. It was crazy. But I was glad to see Jess give Rory the kick in the ass she needs.

Is Logan a Huntzberger? I thought that was out of character last nite too, it was weird.

Thank you for explaining the rift! :xoxo: I gathered it was about the grandparents going soft but I wanted to know exactly what happened. The way Jess showed up and what he said was perfect. Seriously, WTF is Rory doing in the DAR?

Omigod, did you see the episode where the grandparents get a priest to talk to Rory about saving her virginity for her husband? Oh that was too much, "Oh, that ship has sailed."

I really like this show. In some ways I can identify since Mom and me are only 17 yrs apart. She's not from a wealthy family though!

Yeah, Logan's a Huntzberger. His mother is just terrible... Rory came over to dinner and his mother told her and everyone that she wasn't suitable for Logan and was basically trash. A couple of weeks ago, Emily finally found out that she'd done that and that she felt that way, and ripped her a new asshole in a way only she could at a party. It was beautiful.

Hee. The priest. I loved it. "And then you'll have to give him a sweater."

Suze, I'm really glad you're digging GG. It is so great. I seriously recommend catching up with the first three seasons specifically on DVD, or on ABC Family where they're aired twice a day. The first season especially is just... terrific. I get the mushies just thinking about how much I love it.

Isn't it a far better title than "Home Improvement"?

My other favorite German translated titles of the moment:

"Jungfrau (40), maennlich, sucht..." which means, personal-ad-style, "Virgin (40), male, seeking..."

And "Ein herzzerreissendes Werk von umwerfender Genialitaet," which is just a wonderful literal translation of: "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius."

House is my current favorite, along with Cold Case (I watch those two without fail. I also like 60 Minutes or 48 Hours- any kind of show like that- Forensic Files, etc. I don't have cable TV right now, but if I did, I could honestly sit and watch VH-1 for hours on end. I used to love Roseanne, I was seriously into The X-Files , Northern Exposure and The Sopranos for awhile.
