Sorry - - - Phone. Talk amongst yourselves.
I'll give you a topic:
70's style "Rhiannon" vs. current "Rhiannon,"
as performed by Stevie onstage -
which is better???
"I read the name of it in a . . . just a novel.
Realized it, thought, 'That's a really beautiful name;'
sat down, about ten minutes later, wrote, 'Rhiannon!'
We think . . . she was a goddess Queen . . .
and that her memory became the myth . . .
I definitely feel that there's a Presence!" :wavey:
Yeah uhhhmmm . . . OH-kay!
Luke: "I'm not afraid!"
Yoda: "You WILL be! . . ."

Old old old old old. THe new ones do not even compare IMO. I LOVE 70's Rhiannons, now I can take them or leave them. Preferably would leave them for a different song she never does.

Although it is easier to understand all the words in the current performances - NOTHING tops the performances from the 70's. Part of me went to those shows just to see Rhiannon.

Oh 70's Rhiannon hands down, there has never been anything like those and there never will be again. In the words of Mick Fleetwood, "Rhiannon those days was like an exorcism" ;)

70's all the way. Just much more youthful, raw and wild energy going on. It helped solidify her place in Rock N Roll.
Just electric.
The new ones are sung too wise and tame for the most part...but still likeable.

My fav. Rhiannon ever is the piano intro version on the Bella Donna tour. I am not too into the fast part, but the slow part is sublime.

Her voice right- at- the- very- end- when she says:
"Don't go..."

. . . and her punctuating "I'll never forget you either" while apparently crying

That whole thing is spellbinding. Her entire everything is in that intro....

The old ones, definitely. I hate any live "Rhiannon" after 1983, though some of the RAL era ones are interesting. The best years for it were '75 - '80 though, imo.

That one from the old TV show in particular. Ummm, the 1976 show. Gawd, why am I having a mind blank right now? Tired that's why. Anyway, I love the old way she'd do "All the same, all the same" etc over and over. Just so much more fire in the old versions vs. today.
I would choose any new version in concert though over the initial recorded 1975 version.

Love them all, but think that the 70's one is the absolute best. She put so much energy into it she looked like she needed to be carried off stage!

I think just about everyone agrees that the old Rhiannon versions are way better than the new ones. I love the versions from the 70's that just rock although the piano intro is pretty too.

I like both the new and the old. The song has changed with her through the years, IMO. In the seventies it talked about... well whatever it was written about... today it talks of her.

I'm going to break the mold and say that I like the new ones today. I like the old ones too, but I think I like the SYW tour/Gold Dust Tour better. The "Well I don't think you do" seals the deal.
I love the ending on the Live in Boston DVD too. So passionate and dramatic.

Definitely the old stage performances...BUT I have to say that "The Dance" version of Rhiannon is my favorite....not as crazy and such as some past ones - but it will always be the first song that drew me in :D
The "Well I don't think you do" seals the deal.
Nailed it! How she shouts and pumps her tiny little fist? Awesome!
I'm also a huge fan of the House of Blues version of Rhiannon...I think it was '94? She loses it at the end in the most spectacular way.

yes she does. I love that one too. I'd like to see her go all out and attempt it.
I love the 70's versions more but I also like them today...the slow burn as some call it and the "well I don't think you do" - it always has those little gems that keeps it cool, IMO.

No comparison. Everytime I hear it live now, I hold my breath hoping she'll do it like she used to but she always pulls it back and I think doesn't she just want to tear into it again? Do it Stevie!

Best answer I've seen so far in this thread. I agree with you on this! I love, love, love the old 70's verison but there's something about the current version that I love and adore too!

The Midnight Special was the show, and yeah, best Rhiannon ever.
