Incredible, rocking song. Love it. Very strong vocal & music (which I now have stuck in my head.) I especially love the way she delivers the lines:

Ooh...come around tonight indecent
Well...
Ah, ha...come around
Tonight, indecent...baby well,
You fill the room
With the rain and the wind and the water

If you tell me,
One more time
Oh baby, take it easy
Well, you won't see me ever again

Some people walk down that darkened street
With the faith of a child
And so go the faithless
But after awhile, she says...

I ALWAYS belt it out along with her on this one - LOUD. It just rocks so hard.

This song is so good live too - I'm not sure which I prefer, though. I am a bit surpirsed that this didn't make Enchanted, since it was done on a couple of tours - she seemed to like it.

I don't often listen to the album version of this song, but I LOVE it live. Especially from Red Rocks. I wish she would still do it.

I love this song both on record and live. I first really paid attention to this song when I watched the Red Rocks video and heard what a kick ass live song it is. I wish she would do it again too.

Best song on RAL by far. Its the only song that lives up to the albums name without sucking. Its even better live. Some of Stevie's absolute best lyrics ever are on thsi song. I Love:

I Either Say Too Much Or... I ... Dont Say Enough
Well I play too hard Still Im not Tough Enough

I seriously suck at lyrics then, cause I always thought it was So Cold and faithless

I love it live and on the album. It was probably the first song that really grabbed me on RAL (apart from the singles). I'd love to see Stevie pull this one out again in her shows.

This is one of my favourites lyrically speaking. I love the passion and anger in it.

You have no idea how many I've screwed up over the years. Even now, once in a while I read through them on Nicksfix & I'm like "huh?!?!"

I love it live and on record. I especially love the "wind & the rain & the WAAATAAAAH" line.

This song is also full of "baby's" and "well's". Can't beat that.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been around for awhile but I usually lurk.

Let's change that. I don't like the word lurk. I feel like I am a peeping tom or a stalker or something. How about I usually enjoy reading everyone's witty and insightful posts.

This is my least favorite song on RAL... i enjoyed it when she performed it live, but on the album, it just doesn't do anything for me.. perhaps it was the poor engineering that turned me off to it

I agree, with the single part, and well, I guess I agree about the lyrics too.

Overall, this is one of the highlights of RAL for me....but I really do love the entire album. The part that always gets me is:

If you tell me one more time, "baby take it easy"
Well you won't see me ever again!

I have always believed this was a reference to someone...maybe Jimmy...maybe Lindsey....hell, maybe even Joe Walsh, telling her to lighten up a bit on the coke, and general excesses of her lifestyle.

Lyrically it's very good. I like it. Sadly, I don't listen to it that much, because my RAL is on albumwrap, and to listen to it means I have to listen to The Nightmare first. And if I were you. IIWY isn't that bad, but...anywhoo....I should listen to it more than I do, is my point. :)

Ya know. I never listen to it much, either. It's like you know it's a great song, but you never get it to....It's a hidden gem that, like Paula said, should have been on Enchanted.....replacing Desert Angel.

I only know the Red Rocks version, but the chorus is only one note. Well, technically three, but essentially one. Only three words sung on a note other than that one("what was it"). Very boring song to me.

ah ha....come around
tonite, indecent....baby well

wonder what that's all about  ;)

I always thought this was about her short marriage to Anderson. Didn't he get religion after Robin's death or wasn't he a holy roller? So that part where:

Now it will make me wiser
He says, and it will make you look
She says, look out...
I don't know how to learn
From the pages of a book

Is the book the Bible?

And she was such a sex kitten back then that he must have told her that she better stop asking for it all the time!

Ooh, for one night
Well baby, you fill the night with the
Wind and the rain and the water

Oh, for one night
Well, just for one night
You know that...well that...
Disasterous sound

Was this the only time they were able to consumate the marriage? And was it a disaster?

You fill the room
With the rain and the wind and the water

Rain & water = tears
Wind = yelling

She doesn't share his version of faith, so she just wants to cut loose, make a deal and forget it.

Some people walk down that darkened street
With the faith of a child
And so go the faithless
But after awhile, she says...

No spoken word
(Let's make a deal here)
No small command
What was it she wanted
They said she had everything
(ooh, I don't want to know about it...)

That's my take on it... Not one of my favorites on this album. I like the pop numbers better (IH, ISFTT, SH, IIWY), but this song is allllllllll Stevie. The placement on the album is perfect.

This is interesting. Indeed, and I never considered this perspective before. The perception I have had of this song for nearly 20 years just flashed away in an instant.

The only part I can't bring myself to consider is the part about her and Kim.....doing it. :o I don't ever want to believe that Stevie actually would...'bump uglies'...with that man - because of the fact that he was Robin's husband. It just seems like it would be too far off from her intentions for the marriage in the first place.

Maybe his demands for sex were the downfall of their marriage?

i worship this song, as i posted when i first joined the ledge, back in '86 i saw stevie during her rock-a-little tour & had brought her a shawl, a beautiful light, light pink shawl~ well during a clothing change, she walked right by where i was standing in the front row (she was changing right off of the stage like she did during the SYW tour), any ways she looked down & i was able to give her the shawl~ & after the clothing change, she came out to sing "no spoken word", & she was wearing my shawl  , it was 1 of the best stevie moments of my life, i swear i was weak in the knees & felt i was gonna passed out~ i will never forget it!!!~
here is a pic, my ma snapped of her wearing it, my ma was in the 9th row & it was 86, so the pic is old, but i hope you guys enjoy~ i sure did!!!~

To be honest, I don't remember. I went nuts about a year ago & traded everyone for everything I could get my hands on - I had so much stuff coming in, I'm not even sure I've heard it all.

I do have a RAL outtake/alt. disc, I will dig that out tonight & check.

I love the tune....obviously Stevie loves the song too......considering it was only an album cut that she performed on many subsequent tours. "No Spoken Word" was performed on the OSOTM and STREET ANGEL TOURS. I think I remember seeing it performed on some shows during the TIMESPACE TOUR, not sure.

Love the lyrics, it would be nice to bring it back to the set on her next solo tour........

This is one of my favorite Stevie solo songs. I just love it when she rocks, and when she records very passionate/angry lyrics.

I love so much how she came out swinging in the Street Angel Tour... I wish just some of that fire was left in her!
