View Full Version : Random Thoughts/Express Yourself...Part II

Well I was too lazy to search for the original random/express thread - so I'm starting a part II - the other was quite long anyway.
I was thinking that for moments when I'm feeling like I am tonight I should just start a blog, you know - one that doesn't involve bears with hair, but alas I'm also too lazy to do that right now.
----
If I hear that one more friend of mine is getting married - I may have to throw myself off a bridge.
I'm not typically one to be down about being single or anything, in fact I am quite happy and content right now, but sometimes I guess being single does get a bit old.
Right now I have more somewhere around 10 or more friends (past and present) who either recently got married, are getting married really soon - or are having babies with their happy spouses.
Ugh - I'm becoming the old spinster of the group! I also had the most disturbing dream the other night - I actually gave birth - to a baby girl - it was the weirdest dream, but of course it's got me thinking. Thinking about what I lack in my life - or at least what society and Happy Homelife Magazine or whatever tell me I'm missing in my life.
Still - I am not at a point where I will settle just to not be single - if I were that desperate I wouldn't be single at this point. That's the trouble - all of the people I've met here in Rochester do NOTHING for me - nothing. It's depressing - I feel like I'm dead inside sometimes - at least when it comes to human affection.
The last intense crush I had on someone? That possibly gay (but turned out not to be gay) guy in DC. That was a year ago!!
Okay - I'll stop now...
Sorry for those of you who actually wasted time reading my pathetic little rant :p I feel better now...

I wish people would make a more concerted effort to say funny things, instead of always just talking.
Also, I wish my throat and ears were not sick, it makes me very crabby. Also, I wish that I never, ever, ran out of brie. And that it was good for you, and not fattening.

Three random strangers smiled at me and said "hi" today... just walking down the street. Normally, people around here are assholes.

Your rant is not pathetic at all. I hear you loud and clear. In fact, tonight my best friend told me that she has decided to move in with her boyfriend of three years -- outside of D.C. She applied for Grad school at both Rutgers and George Washington University when she found out he was to be transferred from the IRS branch in Philadelphia to DC. I called her tonight to see if she wanted to go out. What is she doing and where is she? She and Michael (her boyfriend) are moving his stuff into his place down there in Maryland. She's moving there in August and will be attending GWU.
PS - she's younger than me (not by much, but still).

I'm currently letting MORE bleach soak into my scalp. Well, at least the bottom part of it. Woohoo. I hope it ends up white, as I'm gonna put pink over it, and I want it to be screaming pink. Like, I want to look like a flamingo. If it doesn't break off, you'll get more pic whoring from me. Woot.
Also? I think I need to quit my job. No one ever tells me when I have to work, and it's pissing me off. I need money, damnit! -___-

Not a pathetic rant at all. I have a number of women friends over 30 who are single. Number one, their married friends browbeat them and harrass them about being single and childless. So do their families. Then the married moms ignore them. The families tend to slow down the harrassment at about 35 in my estimation. It's a real problem. Many friendships are lost over this.
Hope you get none of this BS from your friends or family. Give yourself a break ! Our lives take the turns they are supposed to. You'll get what you need. You have plenty of time. :wavey:

I'm the opposite. I'm so friggin' happy I'm single. I mean, there are moments when I go "Damn. I need to date or something.", but then, it passes. LOL Actually, I've never been on an actual date or had a boyfriend. I guess I don't know what I'm missing? I can do what I want, go where I want, don't have someone around me, bugging the shiz outta me all the time.
That said, I do have a fantasy about having someone and us just travelling the world working together or something. Like, taking photos for magazines, calendars or something, ya know. Yeah, who WOULDN'T want that?
My ideal man would be someone who I can trust (HUGE issue) and talk to easily, who I "get" and "gets" me, loves to travel and just be in each others company. Oh, and he HAS to love Lindsey/FM or it's over before it's begun. LOL
I'm almost 30, single and *GASP* childless!! AAAAHHHH!! LOL Thank God for that, too. I'm not mommy material.
I hope you find that special someone, Deanna and they make you deliriously happy. In fact, I wish that for every human being. :)

There are so many people up here who have evacuated from the south. And they all drive 70 mph all the time. All the hotels in the three/four major northern cities have been booked up, they're sending people to Texas now. It is the definition of nuts in a small city like this.
If this thing does hit here, I'm not looking forward to being stuck in a house without power with my dad for the next week.

I'm glad someone started a part 2. Let's see. I'm writing this from my homeland of Brasil (I only spell it that way when I'm here, out of respect. They do not spell it with the z). I had a hard time getting on the internet for a few days and we've been really busy. We flew out of LA at 4am on Wednesday, had two plane changes (one in Houston and one in Sao Paulo) and finally got here at 12am Thursday. Then, the London bombings. I'm sorry for everybody in London. That was just horrible. :distress: My mom and I are visiting my dad, maybe for the last time. He's not doing well and so we're just taking it day by day. I had so much guilt because I had mixed emotions about coming at all. It's a long story, but I don't really know my dad well. He took off when I was little and I've seen him a little off and on over the years, but he made it pretty clear that he didn't really want a kid. We're here for the next 2 weeks and I love it here, but I wish the circumstances weren't this. Thank gawd I still have access to some sanity-saving things, like this board. I don't have time to look at all the threads because it's 7:40am here and we're getting ready to leave to go to breakfast and see my dad. Everytime I come here, I want to stay. Maybe this time I will. I don't know. Ok, that's enough for now.

hey! I was wondering where you were the past few days. About your dad, don't feel guilty.. maybe I don't know how to say it, but I can imagine what you're feeling very well. Just don't be so hard on yourself, you're there and that's something.

My random thoughts:
-I need a roommate. Anyone wanna move to WV? It's not that bad. Please?
-I have a mad crush. I feel 10. :o
-Going to see Fantastic Four tonight. Should be fun times.
-Can you be very happy and very depressed at the same time?

-Can you be very happy and very depressed at the same time?
Sure - especially if you've a mad crush - that isn't requited - or you don't know if it is lol....
Last summer I had such a great time pining over NPR possibly gay guy - but at the same time I was a bit depressed because I didn't think anything would come of it.
Last night for me was an example of being happy and depressed at the same time - I AM happy with my job, life etc - I have everything I could ask for - yet I was also depressed at the thought of dying alone :p

Luckily it's been quite the opposite - people are always saying, "oh you're so lucky that you're not married and have no kids to hold you down" etc.
My family apparently sees my life as exciting - being that I picked up and moved across the country knowing no one - and I am doing well :o
My mom is always saying, "When I was your age I was married and had a 5 year old - you're so lucky you don't have that..." So at least I feel supported in my single-dom.
A good friend of mine from high school is married with a kid - and is expecting another and she's always saying things like, "You're doing what I wanted to do..." "everyone's life is exciting but mine" etc....
I guess the grass really is greener on the other side.
That said I'm back to being content and happy this morning - I think I just needed a good night's sleep.

I dunno what I am sad about. It's odd. I bet I'm just a manic depressant. I'm a happy guy, but in the back of my mind, there's something that bugs the **** out of me. I don't want to say it's lonliness...makes me look weak and dependent.

Oh I know what you mean! After I typed that big old long thing at the beginning of this thread I thought, "damn, I sound so needy and dependent" when in reality I'm not.
I so value my independence - and part of the problem with the people I've met here is the constant calling, wanting excuses when I can't/don't want to go out - ugh - I like coming and going as I please and not having to "report" to anyone :)
Well Curtis, hope you feel better soon...perhaps it's just that you're at a sort of transition point in your life? I mean you just graduated etc..that's always a change :o

:xoxo: I think I love you. That was so nice. An aunt was sort of doing this on the 4th. Then another aunt came over and said "She doesn't need a BF to be happy and she should never settle!" Her first marriage was horrid so she knows what it is like to marry the wrong man. :distress: He cheated on her with her best friend, squandered money, was controlling, etc...

It makes me warm inside to know someone understands. :xoxo:
Like you, I'm not on someone's call. I do what I want when I want. The bad part of that coin is that what I want to do is just lay around the house in complete darkness wrapped up in a blanket. When I do go out, I have a blast....even though I get depressed seeing all my friends with dates and bfs. I think about that for awhile and get sad. I wake from that all refreshed knowing I dont need anyone to complete me. The cycle begins again.....
I guess I need someone who lets me do my thing. All my past relationships have smothered me. I'm not used to freedom when being coupled.
I can ramble on...but I won't

Yeah, the right person will let you be you. What about your crush, any potential there?
Last night I went to a MoveOn house party to discuss the Supreme Court and the upcoming nominations. Basically they want to mobilize a large calling network if a right wing judge is nominated to pressure congress to block the nominee however they can. I also thought maybe I would meet some new, interesting people. I did but most of them were middle aged which is cool but I am looking to meet more people my own age with similar interests.
When I told my roommate the purpose of the meeting when I got home she got mad. She is so ignorant about what that means it makes me boil. I really need to meet more people like me. I didn't want to tell her what I was doing so I told her I had a "thing to go to" and I'd be home later but then she pressed me about being so "mysterious". She seemed tolerant then but when I got back she was like "What was the group discussing regarding the judges?" I shouldn't have answered but she'd been so tolerant earlier. But her tone indicated I shouldn't answer but I did and I got a silent stare at the TV and a sigh.
I felt so angry I wanted to run. I need to get my own place. I have to get away from her and I am not happy in my room. All of my stuff is crammed in my bedroom and I hate it. I've also had a leak in my ceiling since I moved in here. :(
The upside is I live right near downtown/Fanueil hall and lots of great/interesting places to keep me busy and such. Location location location. I am trying to get creative to fit everything in my room better too but I find it difficult to focus and get organized.
Thanks for starting this thread Deanna. Some time maybe we can try to hang out since if we meet halfway I don't think the drive is that far. :wavey:

That is why I try to steer clear of roomates  Of course in Rochester I can afford to live by myself - the same may not be the case in someplace like Boston or NYC or something.
I've never had a roomate though and love living by myself - I can cook naked if I want to and no one cares!!! Um - not that I ever do that.
Actually since I'm so close to Boston I've been thinking recently of going there for a visit - it's a city I've always wanted to see - so it's totally on my agenda!

"She doesn't need a BF to be happy and she should never settle!"
I hate the preconcieved notion that everyone should have to be married and have two children and the white picket fence, etc. It's not for everyone and shouldn't be expected from everyone. You shouldn't settle FOR someone -- you should settle down WITH someone. I don't care if that doesn't happen until i'm 50 -- i'm not just going to get married because someone way back in time said it's what i'm supposed to do.

Great, let me know when you're coming and I'll show you around a bit. :D
I can't afford to live in Boston by myself since I think even a small studio is like $1200. There are some cheaper places though, East Boston is up and coming but to get there you have to go through the tunnels which can get congested. Southie is relatively "cheap". I would have to leave the city to live on my own, I think.
Generally my roommate has been good. 100x better than my last one who was psycho. At least she's not psycho!

Right, and it's bullsh*t anyway. Half the people get divorced and then half of the remainder stays unhappily married. But there's those 25% left that have it pretty good, I wouldn't settle for less either. Hmph.
Riss, you are very young as far as I know and shouldn't even worry about this crap!

My family has divorce, deception, lies, cheating, etc. throughout it. Not my immediate family (thank god) but it's amazing that even in one family there can be that much BS -- if it's just in that small group of people, I don't doubt there's a lot in other families as well which means that probably in this country, your totals are fairly accurate (even for a guesstimate) What's the sense in being married if there's any doubt you can't be managamous?
I'm young but i'm old (if that makes sense) -- I still think about these things. Insane -- far beyond my years I suppose

Ugh, I really need to do this.
First of all, I am really sorry that everyone seems to have problems. Does anyone really have what they want in life? Doesn't seem so. I know this sounds horrible, but it's a tad comforting...
I am 27 and not married. I do feel pressure. My boss yesterday told me he sees me getting married and having kids. This is one of the reasons he gave me for not stepping down from my positon as manager back to assistant manager. He doesn't listen. He just says sacrifice NOW so at 45 I have alot more. What if I don't make it to 45 and I have sacrificed alot already. No holidays, no sleep, no life, no weekends, I mean really, what more? I lost 24, 25, 26...and now 27 will be a distant memory soon and how many more years are to be swept away for a stupid job?
Like Curtis, I have a crush too and I also feel 10. This guy though has told me to my face " he isn't sexually attracted to me"...and yet, I still kind throw myself on him. It's like a part of me won't believe him. I never threw myself at guys that didn't want me, not since high school, and now I am doing it again. I work with him and maybe I do it to keep work interesting, since I hate my job otherwise.
My best friend...God. We have been best friends for 8 years and spent most of it fighting, alot. People have accused us of being lesbians and lovers and so on. No one understands two girls who hang out so much and fight so much and so on. I don't either. I have tried to break away, because it such a dependant friendship. Now she has gotten back to all her old friends, who do not like me, and they all have little 9-5 jobs and make alot of money and they can go out every night and take weekend trips ( I cannot) and now I am feeling jealous, because I feel totally friendless now. My other friends...I have just lost touch because of my schedule and she was the only one who really stuck around and now I forced her away from me and now she is and I just feel like...weird.
When does life start? I am 27 and I am still waiting for it. I can't believe I am living what is my life! It seems like such a waste. I am incredibly unhappy, in debt, overweight, and I keep saying it will get better but I keep thinking one day I'll wake up rich, thin and in love.
Life doesn't work that way, does it?
And my little problems don't compare to the real **** going on in the world. People dying, starving, getting beaten by their parents or spouces, not havin g a place to live...horrible things. I have to tell myself I am lucky for what I have and my problems are just because Im too chicken **** to change anything...

:xoxo: Chin up, sweets. You're beautiful, you're intelligent and I have no doubt when the time is right, you'll meet someone amazing who will treat you right and you'll be married and have children.

:wavey:
Sue, if you liked going to the meetings you should still go. Even if you don't meet anyone your age it might still be fun to meet new people. They might have a relative that you could meet or something. Anyway, if you enjoy a hobby you should still go and do it regardless of the people.
That is how it is here in RI, however. There are either older people or college kids. I might join the Photography Society of RI in the fall. Lots of older people there but I enjoy the hobby.
Boston is such a great city and it sounds like you live in a great area. There must be a lot to do there. Not too much to do in this dump of a city. This time of year everyone and their brother is down in Newport. It is a lovely place but too many young kids hang out there now. I feel so old.
To get a hotel there is $$$$, too. I know that it is not far to drive but staying there is so much fun.
I am going to NYC next weekend so that is something to look forward to anyway. Sometimes I think that all the really cool people are just at home going "where do I go to meet someone nice?" Of course they can't find anyplace so they just stay home.

You know what is funny? I just got an email that reads in the subject line" If your are over 30 and single read this". Of course I did not read this and I deleted it.
I just thought that it was odd like someone was reading the board and then emailed me.

Ahh, but I'm sure that is what I want. I feel I have to heal who I am from the inside before I could be with anyone. I kind of messed myself up the past year and I need to clear out big time.
No rush for kids or marriage, trust me. I don't even want a relationship. I guess, I just kind of want a guy to think I'm cute...LOL!

You are very lucky and have a great family and cool friends. :woohoo:

You're right. I think next time I will pick a different group though. That was my second choice because my first filled up so quickly! I like what you said about the nice people being home thinking what you're thinking and I'm sure it's true. The nice guys certainly are not at the clubs. So I am trying to get involved with my community to get connected.
I haven't been down to Newport since I was a kid. I have also heard it is very pricey. I may be going in on a house down there with some of my roommate's friends, not sure. I have to get down there though because it does sound like alot of fun.
I would also like to get into a photography class or group. The last class I tried to take was canceled but I will try another. There are also a bunch of social groups here and I have been going to some of their events. My most important New Years resolution was to meet people. I'm sort of naturally shy and inclined to stay home but I'll definitely wind up being "The Cat Lady" if I don't push myself a bit.
Have a wonderful time in NYC next week, that'll be great. :D

I can understand and relate to that feeling like, "When does my life actually take off???" but the fact is that both of us are so young. Yes, you're older than me but you're still so young. I know it's hard for you to believe, and I think that's because society has us thinking that life is supposed to take off at 18 when that isn't always the case. In fact, I think usually it isn't the case at all. So my point is that you have a long life ahead of you and there's plenty of time for much, much more to happen for you. And by the way, I've seen at least one pic of you on here and I do not think you looked remotely overweight. You are a really good-looking woman. (It's kind of a requirement for membership to the Ledge to be good-looking, anyway  ). You're not alone in your frustration and I can't blame you for feeling that way, but I really hope you feel better. :)

This is going to be a very pathetic little rant, so you've been warned
For quite a while now, I've had a crush on this one guy who goes to my school, he's older, very hot, smart, and egotistical, which most people see as a major downside, but I find it sexy. Well I spent most of my time throwing myself at him, it's almost embarassing the lengths I went to, and the only response I ever got out of him was that he "thinks I'm going to break his heart if he goes out with me, because my friends have done this to some of his friends, and he doesn't even know if he wants a gf at all" Now, I'm sorry, but wtf? After the lenghts I went to getting his attention, I expected him to at least give me a shot, but whatever, I accepted what he said and moved on. Well last night, I found out that he's been chasing this girl, and I don't want to sound shallow or mean or anything, but she isn't very cute and she isn't very nice. The whole thing is just making me feel really bad about myself...I know it's pathetic, but it's true. I wouldn't care so much if he was chasing some drop dead gorgeous girl that I could never compete with, or some hilarious chick that is great to be around, but the fact that its neither of those is really bothering me. I know this whole thing sounds really shallow :sorry:

Wear gloves and a rain jacket to prevent any splattering of blood on your lovely apparel. If you need to get rid of the bodies, try baking some meat pies.
As for a compliment, your post was almost impeccable; it was your misspelling of the word "homicide" that prevented it from achieving perfection.

Snarkiness is better when it comes unexpectedly. If you are always snarky, then people will expect it. If you are usually nice, then say something snarky, it has much more impact. The masters know this.

Fit in with what? I dunno, but usually when people create their own tiny in groups, it's only to "fit in" with one or two other people, and then call yourselves superior to all the other people there. It's not so much actually trying to fit in with everyone. So, basically, I don't know, you tell me why you feel superior?

You equate mocking in regards to frequent posting with mocking in regards to suicide? Meh f*ck you too then. You're like the 'popular group' at school who never grew up. You need a dose of reality.
No, I equate you saying rude and insulting things with anyone else saying rude and insulting things. Just because you are suicidal doesn't excuse you from the flow of the fact that you are rude and insulting, as well. Sorry. And, see, you did it again. I may need a dose of reality, but not the kind you are dishing out. You know, the kind who thinks they are superior to everyone, and that being rude is okay, as long as you have more problems than the next person. No thanks. I'd rather have a dose of reality from a nice person, who sees good in people, and doesn't feel the need to mock and make fun of everyone.
amber
07-10-2005, 02:10 AM
Just 'cause I'm suicidal? I don't believe I even mentioned anything about myself. I didnt' dare because I could be bleeding from my head but so long as I'm not part of the in-group nobody sees a need to include. And supposing I am, it doesn't excuse me from anything and I didn't use it as an excuse anywhere. I didn't even raise the freakin subject but while we're on it, you're such a welcoming group here who really understands reality so I'll be sure to bring it up in the future.
You're getting your dose of reality, that being that your little group members aren't the only ones here and you hold no claim to this place. You can't handle it and so it turns into this. We don't mock in hatred, we just alerted to the reality. You'll note we weren't excluded from this mocking, just simply exposing how others feel around this place. But apparently that's a free pass to judge out intellect and our personal problems which I think if you'll take a second glancing, we haven't even dared mention around you lot.
I don't have a "group", first of all, so I don't know what you are talking about. And you brought up suicide, right here, when you said "You equate mocking in regards to frequent posting with mocking in regards to suicide?". As for the rest, I don't know what you are talking about. You were mocking, so... I mean, go ahead and justify the mocking if you want, it's still mocking. And I don't think anyone here ever thought they were the only ones here. And, actually, I think people here are very welcoming, if you are nice, and try to talk to them as if they had human intelligence, instead of like they are all morons. But, heck, maybe that's just me. Maybe I am wrong, and people like to be talked to as if they are morons, and mocked, too! I don't think anyone here minds someone else talking, at all. I'm sorry you feel "excluded" or whatever, but sometimes it takes a little effort, or, I don't know, decorum, or maybe talking about something others can talk about in order to be "included". Personally, I don't really care if you only talk to one person, ever. As long as it's not super rude, or making fun of other people I like. But, whatever, if you want to feel martyred, go ahead. I really don't know what you are talking about. However, I do know some people, including myself, who used to like you a lot, but no longer do, because you, yourself, have alienated them through your words and actions. Have a good evening.

As long as we're on this subject, I have a few things to say. I know it won't matter one way or the other what I say because I'm not one of the group. I don't have anything insightful, witty or super-intelligent to say but I do post a lot (Amber, you told me this is what makes people pay attention and respond). I posted that my dad is dying and it's conflicting for me because he split when I was a kid and made it clear he never wanted a kid. A few people said something. In this thread, only one even noticed that I hadn't posted for a few days and cared where I was. Mari, thank you! The other topic was complaints about being single. The responses to that topic (which is essentially much more important than my father losing his life) got pages and pages of responses, sympathy and backslapping. Not that not having a date Friday night isn't serious business. It is. But, don't say this board isn't a popularity contest because it is. I'm meaningless and therefore my father's desertion and death is, too. I don't have a hard time calling it for what it is. I didn't post what I did because I wanted attention. This is real to me. I traveled for 16 hours total (in layovers and change of planes) to get from LA to Brasil so I could see my dad one last time. I'm dealing with years of conflict over being abandoned and trying desperately to love my dad now while I can. It's real to me. I would have never said anything about the pages and pages of crying over being single and dateless among the *popular* group, while my dad's death was almost completely ignored, but as long as we're on the subject of cliques.. If this wasn't proof, I don't know what is. I'll get over it. It's a message board and my dad will pass whether or not I have your sympathies or concern, right? I'm just calling it as I see it. You can ignore me or dislike me even more now and use this as justification. I started this thread (the original one, part 1) for people to open up about their happiness, their pain, their whatever and I'm glad everyone's having a good time with it. But, the relevance of someone's life does depend on popularity here and I admit that I was pretty shocked that my dad's death was worth one post, while being dateless was worth pages. I don't have anything witty, insightful or super-intelligent to say about that.

I know it's difficult to comprehend but take a step back and you might see things a little clearer. Click on the page before and you'll note a random accusation of suicidal rantings coming from myself. That is rather ironic. A thread for you lot to all comfort each other about the latest problems and I who knows not to join in any kind of discussion being accused or ranting on about suicide. Does seem a bit strange don't you think? What's additionally strange is the manner my non-existent suicidal ranting is being treated in light of the comforting manner something such as someone's lack of a date is treated. I know where I'll be turning next time I feel the need to jump off a cliff.
I don't get it. I don't want to read back, this thread was making me, uh, not want to read it. It was too ooey gooey for me. So, you weren't talking about suicide? Or you were? And, I wasn't really talking about your suicidal tendencies, or lack thereof, I was talking about your rudeness, mocking, and condescension. And if you weren't ranting about suicide, how could anyone be treating it in any way at all? Unless you're referring to the way your past suicidal rants are being treated, now. I really have no comment on that. And it seems to me, in general, that only certain people, or certain kinds of people, get sympathy on this board, anyway.

You don't have to tell me. honestly, I wasn't really reading this thread much because it was making me sick. I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm very, very, sorry about your situation with your dad. I didn't notice you were gone, because I was gone, too. Maybe it's just like any other place, when someone gets to know you they'll be more comfortable talking to you. I really have no idea. Or maybe it was because lots of people related to that dateless thing, or whatever, and wanted to talk about it. I'm really sorry, I don't know what to say. Luckily, it's not my fault. And, you also might notice, that there's been about, oh, 3 million, give or take, new posters in the last month. That's a lot to try to keep up with. My point is, don't take it too personally. I didn't even know there was a "popular" group, just people who knew each other better than they know others. Although, I guess some people take less of an effort to speak to lots of different people. You really can't control that, though - lots of people never talk to me, either.
Anyway, I'm sorry about all that stuff with your dad. :xoxo: I actually very rarely share my serious problems on here, because of just that reason. ie, it's highly possible that no one will give a rats ass. :)

Oh you are not meaningless. :( I am sorry to hear about your Dad.
I think that posts do get lost sometimes. Unfortunately the really irrelevant ones do receive a response sometimes. I have to say that I sort of felt like you do about the board very recently and I was a bit turned off myself. I could say that you should not let it get to you but when you are going through a tough time and come here to try and get a reprieve and you just get ignored or belittled it does hurt.
I hope that everything works out for you and your family. I will keep you and your Dad in my prayers.

I come to the board to read Stevie happenings, pictures, stories about a band---The gossip, chatter and reflections on an earlier time in my life -that I associate a lot of what I have actually become- the person that I am, with this band of people that I have listend to and followed for 30+ years...
When here, I am saddened to find such sadness, name calling, dispair and sometimes outright desperation, I find people who are hurting and need some support and a place to feel safe posting their inner turmoils and heartaches..after all, No one REALLY knows you and they can't judge you and it allows some healing to be able to write something down and then send it away...
When here, I am amazed at the silly chatter, games that are played and the "family" that so many members have become-Curtis, Amber and Lux and Dissention ans Pattie and Claudia and Shel , and Hillary and Chris and...and so many people...that I really know, about them---- only what they want me, or anyone else posting/reading -to know.
Some days they are happy and somedays they are not. But they always have something to say ,maybe just to each other or to the whole board--
We have (in what I have observed,) a very large population of people in many countries, in many age groups, different social classes, different interests, and mostly....with many thoughts that they want to share and with so very man ,many, different priorities!!
That said- Please know there are people that are concerened and worried about you and your relationship with your Dad-but it is a heavy subject, not many people know how to deal and accept the healty realatives in their lives...forget about when it becomes serious and very real, there is nothing more akward than death.
Please don't think that I am belittling your trauma, because I am not- I just want to help you to understand the People in general-don't know what to say or how to express themselves when someone is going through the difficult path you are on. So, instead thay talk about foolish, silly non-consequencial "stuff" and ignore the reality of something REAL and very, very scarry. like death. I don't think it means that you are meaningless at all
Actually, you are probably the most meaningful person on this board today. Unfortunately, I don't think a lot of thye people here are capable of the compasion that is needed in your life right now
Please accept my compasion, prayers, wishes and hopes that you will be able to get through this difficult time in your life, with the strength that you are seaching for...you have my sympathy and my sincere wishes for lighter days ahead

I don't have anything witty, insightful or super-intelligent to say about that.I'm really sorry about this. This is a case of me not reading an entire thread and then missing the most important thing. Eclispe has a point--I would've had a hard time finding words for you had I seen it and I because it's sadly true how much easier it is for people to talk about being single. I think Pattie has a point, too, in saying that sometimes the totally irrelevant posts get lots of responses and the meaningful ones are left out in the cold. I'm really sorry about your father. I know the many of us here on the board want to be here for you if you want to talk about it more, but I understand if you're turned off to confiding in the board at this point. :( I didn't realize you had been gone because I hardly ever notice someone being gone unless that person really does posts 30 times a day or something, and then it's hard not to notice that the person's gone. I become scarce sometimes myself because I have schoolwork to do and such, and I figure that others have to take off for similar reasons, too. Besides, others have full time jobs and I don't. But I really just want to stress that if I had seen your post I would have responded; I would not have ignored you because you're relatively new to this board. I still have not forgotten when I was new to this board. Compared to a lot of others, I'm still new to this board. I'm just really sorry about this, and I'm really, really sorry about your father.

I know it's pathetic, lame, and cliche, but in regards to how last night's innocent snarking turned nasty, I really just wish we could all get along. I care very much about Amber, Josh, and Lux (in no particular order; that's why I did alphabetical so I wouldn't have to pick an order) and I hate how this has happened. And I was happy that you, Darrelle, started posting more often because I think you're really funny and I am always glad to see different people contributing. I'm really sorry that you have negative feelings about the board; I hope someone (me or whoever) could change your mind somehow.
And this is just my two cents and my perception of what's going on, but Lux, I think that what Josh said to you was unnecessarily mean so I was glad to see that he apologized. I think he made that comment in response to yours about him because he thought you were being serious when I believe you were actually joking. Joking or not, I think your comment still came off as mean. To me, it read like you were trying to make a joke out of it but it still represented the way you really feel about him and it was also (sorry to be repetitive) mean. I think that is the point Amber is trying to make, but you don't want to consider what she's saying at all.

Gawd- I'm not even going to address the majority of the pages I've just sloshed through.
The one post that really caught my attention was La Gringa's. I did read your post. Honestly? It was really heavy and simply I didn't know what to say. I had every intention (believe it or not) of coming back later and addressing it in some way.
Still - I have no clue what to say - so a simple, "I'm really sorry for what you're going through right now" Will have to suffice. I, myself, haven't seen my father in oh some 15+ years - I don't know if he's alive or dead or what  So I think it really must be an intense thing for you to be there at the end of his life - I'm sorry you felt unimportant.
Thanks though for your very heartfelt post about feeling ignored etc - you're right - it does seem strange that a post of such magnitude was widely ignored while my date rantings were addressed - but like someone said before - perhaps more people could relate to that? I don't know.

Well, I think you are a nice person and very cool. I admire you for kicking your habit and breaking off a bad relationship. I'm sorry about your Dad. You deserved to have a present father who adored you and I am sorry you did not. And now you have to go through the pain of visiting him while he is dying, I can only imagine how that feels.
I'm sorry I did not reply to your post before. I hope that you feel better soon. Do something nice for yourself today. Please know that you are in our hearts and thoughts whether or not we post. :xoxo:

I was serious. :) Also, I was joking. I'm very complex and murcurial. :wavey:Have you read what Camille Paglia has to say about the mercurial sexual persona in "Sexual Personae"? It is very interesting.

As long as we're on this subject, I have a few things to say....I came into the thread a little late, and didn't start reading from the beginning (a bad habit of mine). I knew you were in Brazil, but I hadn't realized the exact reason... so I'd also like to apologize for having missed the initial post about your father and the reasons for your trip.
Beyond that, I wish I was better able to articulate to you how deeply my heart goes out to you. This is one of those situations where mere words don't seem adequate.
But you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope you're able to find solace during this extremely difficult time.
From the way you express yourself in your posts and from the pics you've posted, it's clear that you're a beautiful person inside and out.
I'm sorry I hadn't communicated that to you before. It takes me a while to really start conversing with people in a major way. It's not snobbery, but a remnant of my inherent shyness. I often take my time getting to know someone.
We can be a pretty overwhelming group of people here, and some of us are definitely a little too quick with the sarcasm and aggressive debates... which I know can intimidate people who are new to the fold.
But I think overall we're all good people. I think most Ledgies are above "cliques," and immature behaviour such as that, and aren't meaning to exclude anyone at all as we talk to the people we've come to know over the years.
I hope you'll stay with us, and continue adding your thoughts and insights. :xoxo:

Thanks everybody for what you said. In a big way, I almost wish I hadn't posted that last night. I was really, really tired and feeling emotional and then the whole subject of cliques came up and others feeling left out, soo one thing led to another and I found myself giving my .02. To the person who said they come here for lighthearted stuff, I do too. However, I've seen others that weren't so lighthearted and needed something. I know most hate this song, but "sometimes it's a bitch, sometimes it's a breeze." I still think if someone who was more *popular* had posted what I did, there would be 100 pages following and if anyone ignored it, they would be the exception. But, I droned on about that last night so I won't do it today. When I started this thread initially, this was how I introduced it:
This is an idea I had for a thread, but I don't know how well it will work out. Basically, it's a thread to just express your thoughts at any given time. For instance, you could use it to vent, say something you're thinking about but don't feel comfortable saying out loud to anyone else, a song that's running through your head, etc. It can be as meaningless or as important as you want it to be. You don't have to be shy about how you express it either. Just go straight from your mind to writing it down. Anything goes. Even if it's embarrassing, it's great therapy and you're among friends. You can tease in here, but you can't judge. Make sense?
So, I'm not downplaying being dateless but I'm also not downplaying the bigger stuff. I think it should be a *dumping ground* for whatever you have to say. I would have never said anything at all about the ignoring of what I posted, but the subject came up and a few people were making some good points (which is apparently why they started the conversation back and forth, while others felt excluded). I think they were trying to prove a point. I wouldn't have gone there but they did, so I added my .02. It got heavy due to lack of sleep, being emotional and the situation itself.
Ok, so I still hope everybody feels free to *dump* in this thread. That's what it's for! Thanks again for your thoughts.
Gawd, you really are sweet! Somebody actually noticed I was gone? You have no idea how good that made me feel. Thanks. :xoxo: Being here with him is a reminder everyday of what he didn't want (me) and now I'm forced on him. I always feel about 2 feet tall when I'm anywhere near him. So, I'm trying not to be hard on myself and I am here for him. I don't hold grudges either. I knew it's something I had to do for him and maybe for me, too. Thanks for thinking about me! xoxoxoxoxoxo
:o :) I thought you probably were in Brazil as you posted in the last random thoughts thread, but I was wondering how you were doing there. I can just relate a bit to your story, you know. I guess there will be a time one day when I'll have to make the same choice with my dad, and I just feel for you. It's a ****ty situation.. I think it's big of you that you don't hold grudges and that you can do this! Sorry you have to go through all that but I guess this is something good in this. Take care :xoxo:

I met a cutie last night and he had the most hilarious story. He's a cop and he had to testify in a case against a man who molested his step-daughter. I know, that part isn't light. He was the officer who arrived at the home of this man and arrested him. His wife caught him in the act and called the police but he didn't know this. She took her daugher and left before the police arrived.
So Jake* has to "pat-frisk" this guy to make sure he doesn't have any weapons. He frisks him and notices the man has a "large, erect penis". His words, and he uses these in his report. It gets better.
So at trial he's giving his testimony and the defense lawyer is cross-examining and asks "What did you discover when you pat-frisked so and so?"
Jake, "Well, I don't know how to say this."
Lawyer, "Just say it."
Jake, "I discovered a large, erect penis."
Lawyer, "Are you a doctor?"
Jake, "No."
Lawyer, "Do you have any experience with a large, erect penis?"
Jake, "I have 28 years of hands-on experience with a large, erect penis."
 EVERYONE laughed at this including the judge. Oh man, that story made my weekend. Oh yeah, so did the officer. ;) Get yer mind outta the gutter!

I have one on the scary/stupid side. A bee got into my house about an hour ago. I trapped it in the bathroom, but now I have to use the bathroom. Of course I'm too scared. Basically, I'm being terrorized by a bee.

well, great, but if you make fun of people, and stuff, they may not like it. Just saying. And I know you are both active. I used to like lux. I really have no opinion about you.
Sorry, I have to reply to this.
I don't make fun of people at all. I am active on almost every forum on The Ledge. I contribute to the survivors and talking about shows, reviews of songs, Lindsey's crotch, whatever.
And this is exactly the point that I was, and I think Lux was, trying to make with the other thread. You wouldn't even know that because you respond (and probably only bother to read) the posts of the people you know or are "popular" Ledgies. I realize Lux is very prominent, but she still feels this way.
If you want to believe that it isn't true that there's a "popular" group here and that Lux and I have been pegged the high losers, than fine. But, it's true.
Furthermore, if you have no opinion about me, stop involving yourself in this. It isn't about you so **** off.
Looking at this now, I realize how trivial it all was and still is. I was just high as usual and needed some retarded entertainment.

You guys were making fun of people who use emoticons in the other thread. Oh, but now that you told me to f*** off, i have the utmost respect for you. And, like I said before, my opinion of lux has nothing to do with a "popular" group. It has to do with her actions and words towards myself and others. So , don't whine about there being a popular group, if you (or specifically) lux, behave in such a way as to alienate people. There is no popular group, just people who are sick of lux and her ****, I would imagine.

Imagine all you like, it is far from true. Most people find Lux hilarious from what I've seen here. You just dislike her because she called you out on your group. She's not being "mean" she was just making a comment about all the aspects of The Ledge. She and I even made fun of ourselves.
I do know of quite a few people on this board or who just read it who are sick of you. You're so ignorant to anything that goes on, and it simply doesn't register with you if you're not involved.

No, I dislike her because she was bitchy and rude to me several times, for little reason. I used to like her. And, unfortunately, you are wrong, because she didn't call me out on my "group" because I don't have a "group". I still don't get why you keep saying that, it's like you are making something up so you can continue to feel martyred, or for whatever reasons you have. And, especially, if what you say is true, that a lot of people are quite sick of me, well, then, your logic of me having a "group" really doesn't hold up then, does it??? I'm so ignorant to anything that goes on, huh? If I'm not involved? How the hell do you know anything that goes on anyway, you're barely here. And you don't know me at all, you don't know what I know that is going on, and you don't know how I feel about things that don't involve me. Um... I guess you could do that, yeah! It's in a grey area of what you can or cannot do, I guess.. You might get into (minor) trouble for it, but nothing more than someone asking you to put it out, I suppose. But I've never tried it, I don't touch the stuff.

I hear you. I bet this is more common than we think. I swear I'm not going to get too heavy this time (btw, I love that word - heavy, it's so 70s) but it's confusing because you're supposed to love your dad or at least you're supposed to like him. If you don't, you feel guilty or conflicted. I think I'm learning now that it's ok not to like him or love him, but I can care what he's feeling and give whatever I can to him. Do you know that today I used the phrase "embrace the cheese"?
I think you should too. Or in fact embrace a piece of cheese.
Either would do.

I like that. But I'd rather bite a piece of cheese than embrace one. People might think I'm nuts if I go around hugging a slab of cheese. Then again, a lot already do think I'm nuts so what's the difference

That's funny. so, did you guys get together?
I have one on the scary/stupid side. A bee got into my house about an hour ago. I trapped it in the bathroom, but now I have to use the bathroom. Of course I'm too scared. Basically, I'm being terrorized by a bee.
Oh I frikkin hate when that happens!
I was smooching him by the end of the nite, oops. I gave him my number but I don't know if he'll call. He seems to not be interested in anything resembling a relationship.

I finally went in, and I couldn't find the bee, which is even worse. I was supposed to take a shower and do stuff....
Yay, smooching!!! that could still be fun, though, and maybe he'd change his mind....you know.... :D

Random thought: Somebody here (you know who you are and thank you! :xoxo: ) sent me a DVD with FM/SN/LB videos. Ok, I should be posting this in one of the other forums, but I'm too lazy to start a thread. Lindsey's videos suck. Most of them anyway. Countdown wasn't so bad. He either looked like a bad punk ripoff wannabe or very girly. He also can't lip sync for ****. Gawd! FM's videos were a little lame, too. What does leading a horse through the desert have to do with holding someone? Tusk is my fave of the FM videos. I love it when Stevie is twirling her baton and marching. But, gawd, this pains me to say this..a lot of Stevie's videos were over the top, too. I love the earlier days when she still had the overbite and her hair was realistic. Am I the only one who thinks she was sexier with the overbite? During the 80s, she kind of started to look like a drag queen and her hair was WAY too big. Too much makeup also. Stevie really does get better with age because the 80s were overkill for her in every way. Pics don't do it justice. Anyway, just a few thoughts on the videos.

um, I mostly agree with you, although I like the cheesy videos, too. I have only seen one of Lindsey's, but I've recently heard he doesn't lip sync too well, but on the other hand, I think he's a way better actor, as far as expressions in his eyes, than Stevie. Stevie looks VEEEERY wooden to me.
I didn't know she got her teeth fixed! I definitely like her more natural, better. My fave, (besides the Angel part of the tusk documentary) is the TUSK video, too. Everyone looks so natural, and sunny and fun, like they're all out for a barbecue and softball game. I really love it. And stevie's baton twirling in see through tube dress is one of my most favorite moments ever.
When I first saw the later stevie videos, pretty recently (within the last year) I, too, was shocked by the cheesyness. And I don't like overdone hair anyway. But they've grown on me, partly because of the cheesiness. I Can't Wait is sooooo cheesy that it's hilarious and good.

There's this girl on JV and her mom is the most obnoxious thing, ever. I was sitting on a cooler today and she was sitting on the other side and instead of saying "Can you please get up so I can get in it" She smacks me on the back and goes "Up." Um, hello, am I a dog? Then she was telling everyone that they were washing cars wrong and they were rinsing them off wrong and they were drying them wrong. Okay, it's a $5 car wash. If you really care then you can do everything yourself. She's always screaming about how something isn't right or fast enough or anything. My favorite was when someone accidently sprayed her with the hose and she flipped out. Ugh. I was talking to the coach in the car on the way back from camp and she doesn't even like her. Good.

I don't know either. I don't recall her wearing braces. Was there a time (like a period of a year or two) when she just stayed out of the public eye and might have had them then? You're so cool Mari. I guess lagringader&r was just trying to be cool when she expressed what she did with her no doubt upsetting post. I suggest you turn it around and see how pathetic it is that when being alerted to what plenty of others see here, you (not specifically you but inclusively) just ridicule and repress them further. Kind of proves the point in a way.
Again, there is no group, and if you feel you're left out of one, you've done it to yourself.

I definitely wasn't trying to be cool. I think this is up there with one of the most uncool things I've ever had to do (the situation with my dad). I spend every spare moment I have when we get back from sitting with him just trying to escape it. Thank gawd for Stevie Nicks is all I can say. I do think there is a *popular* group here. I know there are some posters who would rather slit their wrists then respond to anything I have to say. Why? Probably because I am real (not that anyone else isn't), but I post about who I am and what I've done in my life along with posts about FM videos and my fave songs of Stevie's. I haven't led the cleanest of lives. What I've done doesn't go down well with some people. It isn't *proper* or *cool*. I think when I posted about my dad there might have been a few people here who even rolled their eyes, talked about me behind my back or made the finger-down-the-throat-gag motion. Then, there are the others who were nice and even pmed me to make me feel better. :xoxo: So, it's a mixed group. I do definitely think there is a *group* though. Unless I say the funniest things and have the sharpest and quickest comebacks, I'm pretty much f*cked at fitting into it.

Well last night Deb thought I was having a stroke when my one side of my face started to go numb and then my speech started slurring, But I took some meds and started to improve immediately...Still having a tingling sensation in the right side of my head even now.
My health this week will determine if I make the July 17th Stevie Nicks show in Grand Prairie...If I dont feel well I wont push myself to attend. Also I dont know how the affect of travel will affect me either, I do know that loud sounds as of late have worsen my chronic headaches (If I do attend I will be wearing earplugs for health reasons, Not to avoid hearing the same setlist from previous nights  )
Adding to my health fun is that I have been bottle feeding 2 kittens whose Mother died after giving birth...They are now a week old and healthy, Couldnt think of any of the typical names I give our pets so I named 'em Missy (Near black calico) & Rufus (A reverse tuxedo-Meaning instead of white on black his fur markings are black on white).
Ain't life fun?

Do you really think that some people would rather slit their wrists than respond to your posts?? I honestly can't imagine that, but then, I'm not everyone, clearly. I don't think that "rolled their eyes, made gagging motions" thing could possibly be true, either. Who would think like that??? And I think even the people who like funny posts would still respond to you, sometimes. But if not, you are probably merely one of, oh, 10,000 or so people that they wouldn't respond to, anyways. And, lots of times, the gay boys like to talk to the other gay boys. No big. You have to admit, there are millions of people on here who do respond to you, that you could and do talk to. And as for others, well, give them a chance, you just got here. Just saying. I don't think anyone purposefully sets out to have a group, but just like all people, different people respond to different things. I'm sure you, yourself, respond to certain things more than others. yeah? Heck, barely anyone here talked to me for like, a month when i started posting. But I didn't talk about a "group", I just kept butting in and saying things when I felt like it, about things they were talking about, or whatever. And still, again, there are people who never talk to me. It really isn't a big deal. And, for the record, I think you are nice, insightful, and interesting. :)

Don't worry, Lux wasn't accusing you of trying to be cool; she knew you weren't and was being sarcastic because people accused her of trying to be cool, or something, and she was trying to make a comparison to expose how ridiculous their argument was.
Don't worry either if you can't keep up with how ridiculous all of this is, on all sides. Neither can the vast majority of us, so don't even try.

Sorry, Brian. Did they find out what's wrong with you??? I thought you had an appointment for that. I hope you feel better, someday, and that you make the show. Actually, I know it's a pain, but I'm jealous you have two sweet kittens. :) Sorry their mom died, though. :( I love tortoishells (the near black calico). :)

Oh wow, I hope you feel well enough to go see Stevie! Congrats on saving the kittens--that is great! I love cats.

Don't worry either if you can't keep up with how ridiculous all of this is, on all sides. Neither can the vast majority of us, so don't even try.Such true words! I know I can't keep up with all this. I'm losing my mind trying to piece it all together and talk it out with people. I cried over it last night and this morning and I'm so tired of crying about it. (Granted I have other things I'm crying about regularly as well but this is just adding to them). I really want to be friends with everyone and not choose sides at all, but so many have done things to hurt others, intentionally and unintentionally. This has been the biggest headache.
That being said, I hope everything's okay, Brian.
And lagringader&r, (I'm always wondering what you're real name is so I can call you that instead), I am truly sorry, as I said before, that you don't feel welcomed by all at this board. I really didn't think anyone was looking down on you; I hope that's not the case. I certainly don't look down on you and I'm glad you're here.

the closest date to have a MRI performed by a Neurologist is August 3rd...My primary physician ("Doogie Howser") is surprised I was able to get in that early to have one performed. Hopefully the MRI and other tests performed by the Neurologist will help to determine what the hell is goin' on in my head ("The War inside my head..."-Dream Theater). What sucks is now my BP is FUBAR'd due to the stress from the pain I am in a near constant basis. It is all over the place, One moment it will be normal, the next it is sky-frikkin'-high.
Now on to more interesting things...The Mother cat (Which we named Girl) of the 2 kittens was a greeneyed near black calico stub tail, Her tail was not like a manx's, But was more similar to a lynx, Being about 3"-4" long...Her kittens (She lost the first and fourth of the litter) all have normal tails which is kinda of disappointing, But hell they are healthy and we plan to keep 'em.

I can't keep up with what's going on either!!
Ok - Brian - that numb face thing is scary - I really hope you can start to get well soon - I worry about your health stuff!!
LaGringa (yes we do need a real name for you lol) - I'm sorry you feel that some look down upon you or would rather slit their wrists than respond to you - I, like Amber, can't even imagine who those people would be but whatev. I think you're relatively new to the board - and in that sense I thought you were doing spledidly getting to know people etc
I guess I just live in happy land most of the time - so threads like this upset me - I just talk - and if people respond, cool - if not - then oh well - there are tons of things going on at once - I know I can't keep up with all of it - who can??
Um lets see...I don't have a problem with anyone on this board - I'm getting tired of people saying there's a clique or a "gang" I mean - some people have just been here a long-ass time, or post a helluva lot - and therefore some know people better than others....I like when new people join in - when they're not being rude, defensive and overall unpleasant - I don't like anyone in any circumstance real or on-line if they're jerks about everything....:o

You know what? You're going to go to that show! You and Deb are racking up major karma points by bottle feeding two homeless kittens  :xoxo: and this is what you really want to do. That part of life is fun. Try to rest and definitely take earplugs for the flight and the show. I'll be thinking about you.

Oh, I didn't realize the MRI was so far away. Well, goddamn, hopefully they find something. Just try to breathe deep, for goodness sake, until then. We don't need your blood pressure whacking out, too.
cute cat (girl), so sad she died. Glad you're keeping the kits, though. They are sooo fun, aren't they? They'll cheer you up. :) with their rascally antics.

Thanks. I was more fun when I partied. Everything you posted is probably true. Right now, I don't know which things are real and which I'm imagining. Have you ever felt that way?

Yeah. I usually assume that I'm imagining them. Trust me, almost everyone here has at some time felt that their posts were being ignored. It usually passes, some people just get in the swing of a conversation, and pay attention to whoever they are talking to. But, also, when that happens, some people have said something like "hey, what am i, invisible?" or something. That usually does the trick.
I think you are perfectly interesting enough, now. and better yet, healthy!!! :) Sesly, just give it time. I agree with Deanna, I actually thought you were getting to know people very well. :xoxo:

Don't worry, Lux wasn't accusing you of trying to be cool; she knew you weren't and was being sarcastic because people accused her of trying to be cool, or something, and she was trying to make a comparison to expose how ridiculous their argument was.
Don't worry either if you can't keep up with how ridiculous all of this is, on all sides. Neither can the vast majority of us, so don't even try.
I can't speak for Lux, but I think this thread is all about airing it out. I guess that's what everybody is doing. Some of it is good and some isn't. I can't keep up really, but that's not unusual for me.
Hillary and Deanna, thanks. Call me Sue. Much easier. :xoxo:

Hillary, please promise me you will never shed another tear about any argument occuring on a message board ever again. Seriously. I'm willing to bet a sizable chunk of money that the people most entrenched in this argument didn't even cry over it. So. Not. Worth it.
