I definitely wasn't trying to be cool. I think this is up there with one of the most uncool things I've ever had to do (the situation with my dad). I spend every spare moment I have when we get back from sitting with him just trying to escape it. Thank gawd for Stevie Nicks is all I can say. I do think there is a *popular* group here. I know there are some posters who would rather slit their wrists then respond to anything I have to say. Why? Probably because I am real (not that anyone else isn't), but I post about who I am and what I've done in my life along with posts about FM videos and my fave songs of Stevie's. I haven't led the cleanest of lives. What I've done doesn't go down well with some people. It isn't *proper* or *cool*. I think when I posted about my dad there might have been a few people here who even rolled their eyes, talked about me behind my back or made the finger-down-the-throat-gag motion. Then, there are the others who were nice and even pmed me to make me feel better. :xoxo: So, it's a mixed group. I do definitely think there is a *group* though. Unless I say the funniest things and have the sharpest and quickest comebacks, I'm pretty much f*cked at fitting into it.
(My tone isn't meant to offend anyone and I'm sorry if it does. I'm just saying how I feel).
I'm sorry to hear about your situation with your father... it must be tough. I didn't see your original post at the time because I usually don't read every post in a thread... especially one that is this long. I honestly don't think anyone here was rolling their eyes at your post and I don't think people are judging you based on your past, I don't think it's even an issue. I think you're new here and it takes time to fit in... I've been here forever and I'm still not in the "popular crowd"... if there is one.

Yeah. I usually assume that I'm imagining them. Trust me, almost everyone here has at some time felt that their posts were being ignored. It usually passes, some people just get in the swing of a conversation, and pay attention to whoever they are talking to. But, also, when that happens, some people have said something like "hey, what am i, invisible?" or something. That usually does the trick.
I think you are perfectly interesting enough, now. and better yet, healthy!!! :) Sesly, just give it time. I agree with Deanna, I actually thought you were getting to know people very well. :xoxo:
The really awesome thing about being f*cked up is that you do imagine a lot of sh*t and you don't give a sh*t. Now, I don't know what's imagined and I do give a sh*t. Aww sh*t, I don't give a sh*t. Well, you know what I mean.. Thanks for saying nice things. I'm going to take a walk now.

Awesome - Sue is much nicer sounding than "LaGringa" lol....but if you're in Brasil - I'm betting you may speak better Spanish than I?
Anyway - this thread - when you started part I and I PartII was (I also thought) just about airing stuff out - random thoughts - whatever - I don't know what triggered last night's deal with Lux & Co - glad I wasn't here because it's usually hard for me to stay out of that stuff...:p But yeah - I, for one, appreciate what you've said in this thread - and like Amber said - all of us feel ignored from time to time....

Well last night Deb thought I was having a stroke when my one side of my face started to go numb and then my speech started slurring, But I took some meds and started to improve immediately...Still having a tingling sensation in the right side of my head even now.
My health this week will determine if I make the July 17th Stevie Nicks show in Grand Prairie...If I dont feel well I wont push myself to attend. Also I dont know how the affect of travel will affect me either, I do know that loud sounds as of late have worsen my chronic headaches (If I do attend I will be wearing earplugs for health reasons, Not to avoid hearing the same setlist from previous nights  )
Good luck! Do the doctors know what is wrong yet or are they still doing tests. I think the only thing worse than actually being sick is being sick and not knowing what's wrong. :distress:
Adding to my health fun is that I have been bottle feeding 2 kittens whose Mother died after giving birth...They are now a week old and healthy, Couldnt think of any of the typical names I give our pets so I named 'em Missy (Near black calico) & Rufus (A reverse tuxedo-Meaning instead of white on black his fur markings are black on white).
Ain't life fun?
Anyone who cares for helpless little animals get an A+ in my book! Are you going to keep them?

Nope, don't speak Spanish fluently. We moved away when I was 2. I just fake it mostly. ;) I still think this thread is a good thing because it's always healthy to air things out instead of keeping them bottled up. Even if it's something like "I went to the store for a candy bar today", sometimes, you just have something to say and get shy about saying it to someone you know in everyday life. Even though this thread is filled with some anger or sadness, it's also filled with a lot of good things, too. When Estranged4Life said he was bottle feeding kittens, I couldn't help but think if it weren't for him and his wife, those kittens would starve. He just saved two lives! That's a big thing not to talk about. And, going back to what you originally posted, I agree that being single sucks sometimes. Sometimes it's a breeze and I'm really grateful I'm not tied down to some guy, but other times it does suck and you wonder if there really is someone you can connect with enough to hook it up for life. Is that even possible? Where do you begin to look? *They* say you'll find the person by fate, but how is that possible??? What if we f*ck up fate? What if come to some fork and go the wrong way? If I didn't have this going on, I'd be home thinking about this like you were. I know I would. I have. Is there such a thing as fate? Ok, I'm going for my walk now.

Wow, you are dedicated!!! Yes, I'm pretty excited, I just read all of them this year. Also, I'm about to read the last in the series of my "unknown mystery" books, and the past few Harry Potters have been nice and thick, which i like. Plus, he's so old now!!! So, it's like, I hardly had to wait between books, which is nice. It's only been about a month since I finished the last one. I'm actually glad I waited so long to read them.
Ha, you're going to one of the parties!!!

In the first ones, I was sad they were so thin, but the last couple got really huge, and I loved it. The movies are okay, I've only seen one, actually - but books are always better. Actually, I didn't read them for a long time on purpose, too, I thought they were inferior to other types, like, Narnia and The Wrinkle in Time series. I'm so dumb, they are kind of normal, but I still really like them.
What if it's Dumbledore? who do you think it is? Snape? that would be awesome if it was Snape, but I bet it's not...for your friend to discuss the movies with you without reading the books seems kind of absurd...

Well - he's quite an absurd person. Mostly he tries to convince me that movies are better than books....without having read the books. It infuriates me - perhaps if he'd at least read one book I would listen - but no.

I'm the same way. I lost interest after the fourth book. I haven't read anything Harry Potter related in years now. I'm not even interested in watching the movies (I've only seen the first one). But I'm sure I'll somehow hear about all the major developments, :) .

I went to a party for Order of the Phoenix, and it was so much fun. I just wish I didn't have to work this one.
Random rant- my best friend in the universe just got engaged. Not only do I now have to get good about my health, so I don't look like a beached whale walking down the aisle, but I get to start worrying about our friendship becoming one of those single girl/married girl friendship horror story cliches. I'm way too young for that crap.

It's not that much different, except the past two times I've visited, they've gotten into two huge blowup fights and she's said she's getting a divorce. That's not fun. But she doesn't live by me, so...Sorry about that. I look at everyone's hands, fingers specifically. They've never been wrong, yet. I've noticed a few other trends, too, like...well, nevermind, just in case.
I like to consider myself an expert...  JK.
Honestly, I've never really noticed a correlation between feet and that, though. I mean, usually bigger guys in general are bigger, and they usually have bigger feet, but again, the feet have rarely been a good indication. :) :woohoo:

What also is no indicator is the bulge. :distress: :lol:Yeah, not to get too graphic, but bulge size is all about how it lays and/or which direction you aim it. (For example, if it naturally leans towards the right, then aiming it towards the left makes the bulge appear larger.)
I can't believe I'm talking about this, AND I can't believe I typed "I'm hear to say."

It's the length and width, the overall size and shape of the fingers. Like, someone can have really long, skinny fingers, but that might not be great. It sort of depends on the knuckle size and whatever. It's hard to exactly explain, but I always see it. I dunno, maybe I'm making it up, but I don't think so. I was dragged kicking and screaming. I certainly didn't pay a red cent to see it, that's for sure. Great effects, bad (and unlikable) characters, bad script, incredibly bad plot devices (the son, oy), vomit-inducing ending, and it proved that you're inhuman if you didn't want to beat the **** out of Dakota Fanning. But it WAS entertaining and Tim Robbins was great.

You know what, I have felt the same way MANY times.
And I don't think anyone thought that when you posted about your dad. I think many, many, many people can relate. It just wasn't as easy to talk about, that's all. It's hard to tell someone it will be ok when you are going thru something so hard, you know?
Keep posting AND KEEP IT REAL!

I'm sorry you've felt that way too, but I'm glad I'm not alone and it isn't all in my imagination. I also know it's hard for someone to know what to say. I really don't think I'd know what to say if it were somebody else. Thanks and I will keep posting. You too! :D

Back to random thoughts - if I'm 30, have a husband, house, good stable job, $ in the bank, etc. - shouldn't I want to have a kid yet? Still no desire.

Nope - you shouldn't want to have a kid - again - societal pressure - My sister has one - and she's getting all these "when are you having another?" ugh - she gets so annoyed - like she's got one and is now expected to have another?
I know one guy with 6 kids  Blah - I say enjoy the independence and such of being kid-less - if the desire to have one hits you great - if not - then great!

NO. Why do you think I love you so much??? Enjoy your marriage and your disposable income and your time. Wait at least till you get your house fixed. Marriage w/out kids is very underrated, I think. Wait till you and your husband are so bored with each other you can't see straight. Then have kids. Wait till you've gone on fabulous, exotic, romantic vacations together. etc. :) DER!!!

I just made an appt. with an acupuncturist for next monday to start quitting smoking. The initial visit is $95, which is really, really expensive to me. But I kind of still think it's a good idea. Subsequent visits will either be $68 or $25, the cheaper ones are if you just need the ear treatments. They do a whole big workup on you, though, and may prescribe herbs as well. Also, if you can afford the full body ones, they help hasten the process of your body getting rid of toxins, and of course can help a whole host of other problems you may have. It's all specialized, of course, because they can't tell exactly what your body needs until you go there.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited, but also I really can't afford it. But still.

Yeah...thanks suze. I'm nervous, though, You know how if you are in the right state of mind, everything works better, so I'm going to concentrate on that this week. But, i've been studying alternative health for quite some time, and I have no nervousness about it's effectiveness, which is good. Ha, I only wish I could simultaneously afford hypnosis. I'm interested to see how it affects my health otherwise, too. I've read it can do a ton of good in a lot of ways.

Good luck, Amber - and I agree with Suze - it seems way expensive - but if you add up all the money you'd spend on ciggarettes in the coming weeks/months - it'll be cheaper
AND it'll be cheaper than all the health care you'll need in the future due to problems caused by smokin ;)

You know what. A former co-worker went to go work for a hospital here in RI. She was an office worker. She said that quite a few of the nurses gave her and a few other office co-workers some attitude and would say things like "oh her? oh she is just a secretary" So she left there and it going to make $10,000.00 a year more at her new non- health care related job.
I am not saying that nurses are all like that but she was pretty shocked at their attitude.

Unfortunately you're ignorant. Before you're so quick to dismiss what we're alerted you to, take a step back and another look.
You're so cool Mari. I guess lagringader&r was just trying to be cool when she expressed what she did with her no doubt upsetting post. I suggest you turn it around and see how pathetic it is that when being alerted to what plenty of others see here, you (not specifically you but inclusively) just ridicule and repress them further. Kind of proves the point in a way.
you know, eh.. And now in English, please? Oh never mind.. and I mean that. It's all just silly.
Bet you just can't stand it I'm right, eh :p
You encounter what you create, Lux.
and here's that Brian Wilson review, or better, the Brian Wilson backing band review;)
They played all Beach Boys greatest hits, a few new songs (2 or 3) and just one song from Smile (Heroes & Villains, what else).
It was all well 'executed' and showing off their musicianship.. but they sounded more like a group of musicians put together than an actual band, you know? They'd copied the songs pretty well, so much that the few mistakes here and there were maybe extra noticable. You're almost going, hey that's not on the record! Some a capella singing, both times they ended up lower than they started which drives me crazy. It was all a bit slick, maybe.
Wilson sat like a hand puppet behind a keyboard he didn't play, but he did sing pretty well. Even got up to dance a little during one song at the end.
I think I brought down the age statistics a bit from the visitors :D Saw a couple of Dutch celebs passing by too. Lots of hawaiian shirts, of course :D Good atmosphere. Crowd didn't get up from their seats until the band came back for the last few songs though, but then they wouldn't stop dancing (which was ... interesting... to look at  )
I had a good time, and I can say I saw Brian Wilson now ;) but I'm not convinced this was worth 60 euros.
oww. edit. we can just recap all of this under Nostalgia.

Aw, I'm late but I really wanted to say something about this. I can understand and relate to that feeling like, "When does my life actually take off???" but the fact is that both of us are so young. Yes, you're older than me but you're still so young. I know it's hard for you to believe, and I think that's because society has us thinking that life is supposed to take off at 18 when that isn't always the case. In fact, I think usually it isn't the case at all. So my point is that you have a long life ahead of you and there's plenty of time for much, much more to happen for you. And by the way, I've seen at least one pic of you on here and I do not think you looked remotely overweight. You are a really good-looking woman. (It's kind of a requirement for membership to the Ledge to be good-looking, anyway  ). You're not alone in your frustration and I can't blame you for feeling that way, but I really hope you feel better. :)
I just want to say that what you think your life's mission might be, might change over time....in the last 10 years Ive gone from wanting to be an environmental attorney to a child advocate, and I never saw this coming, so you just never know...be open to new challenges and recognize new opportunities for what they are :)

He is actually pretty good when she is dragging him around, stuffing him in gift bags, walking him in her baby doll stroller, giving him milk baths (I think he liked that though), putting him in the dryer  ect...He waits until she is vulnerable (sleeping, watching a movie, calm stuff) then runs up with a sneak attack, bites the hell out her and runs and hides. Then he starts it over again. He attacks me pretty bad too. I have to keep him in the basement at night because he attacks us in out sleep. He's still just a few months old, so maybe he will mellow out. I guess I can't blame the cat, rereading this post makes me realize that he puts up with ALOT of crap. Well I don't intentionally let her do those things. I can't follow her around 24/7 (a girls gotta take a shower sometime!) and it's just me her and the cat here, so she does alot of this stuff when she knows I'm not looking. He actually likes the stroller and being put in purses and bags. He likes being in little places. the dryer was a bad deal. I was doing dishes and Olivia got really quiet. I called her name and she responded with "Nothinggggg!" So I knew she was up to something. I found her with her hand on the dryer, opened it up and there was the cat. Luckily she can't reach the dials to turn it on, or else we would have had a big problem.

I was chatting with someone a few nights ago and I think he cured me of my excessive smilie usage habit. It was tough and he was patient but I no longer feel the need to rely on them. I feel so free. It was like smilie rehab. One by one, I'm kicking my addictions. I will only use smilies in cases of dire emergencies, like when I feel someone is sure to be insulted if I don't. I look at my posts now and they look so clean. So pure. It's freeing for them, too. I hope I can stay clean with this one. It was a tough night for both of us.

me, too. But the way I think of it is, it would be like talking without making facial expressions, and I just can't do that. I mean, expressions are a must. Plus, I abhorr the snobbishness about using emoticons, so it's part defiance that I use them, too. But mostly it's that "talking without facial expressions" thing.

I like using them just because I think they are fun :] and they can help convey what you are saying.
they're not, some people are snobby about people who use them. Like, if you use them, they will be snobby at you.
Oh, and I agree.

me, too. But the way I think of it is, it would be like talking without making facial expressions, and I just can't do that. I mean, expressions are a must. Plus, I abhorr the snobbishness about using emoticons, so it's part defiance that I use them, too. But mostly it's that "talking without facial expressions" thing.
But, Sue - more power to you! You gotta do what's right for you.
I'm with you. Emoticons were considered mandatory when I first got online. I got into trouble with my sarcasm in email cuz people would think I was serious. They are very important in certain instances. And, you're right, I don't speak deadpan why would I chat that way?

I got an iPod for my birthday. <3
Whiffle Ball is the most fun sport.
Very cool. I want an iPod. When I was your age it was cassette players. Discmans were just coming out maybe? But hella expensive. Anyway, I'm psyched for you, that gift rocks. And agreed, wiffle ball is super fun! :blob1:

You think using smilies is rebellion? Interesting.
Is it? Want to hear more about it? I just like using them, is all. Then I noticed, that some people think it's stupid, which I think is stupid. That's about all. Oh, and I think everyone should have smiley freedom without someone making fun of them. :) :wavey:

When people write great novels, they don't require smilies. Even crappy novels don't require smilies.
someone talking in real life, or writing on here, isn't writing a great novel, or even a crappy one. They are just talking. But you are right, no novel requires smileys.

You're right, no one should be made fun of for using them, but using them is not rebellious. Especially if the only the minority has a problem with it. You may be using them despite the fact that it annoys other people, but I'll bet you used them before you found out it annoyed them.
yeah, I said that, I just like to use them. I only found out later that some didn't like them.
The crappy novel part was added because I knew people would come back with "Yeah, but we aren't writing novels here." It happened anyway. My point being that when conversations are in writing, they do not require smilies.
You win, Kudos.

I am an emoticon convert. Considering the fact that the message board is essentially a new form of communication, I will use all the tools it offers to get my point across and have fun. It also helps when using a certain tone of voice to make sure people get it. Though most often, I don't give a rat's ass if I piss people off.
I remember reading something about the use of smilies.. eh... the people who used them actually communicated better or clearer on the internet? I love my memory, arrghh.
Anyway, :) :blob1:    :blob2: :D

I think smilies are cute and nice to use to express more of what you are saying. They are expressions, mostly joyous, happy ones, so really, what is wrong with that?
The more the merrier:)

You got it, they're fun. They make me smile. I like to smile. :) Of course they're not "required" for a conversation but they do add something, which to me is a positive thing.

Well I'll be damned.
Here's my random thought: why isn't she good enough for her mother? Why couldn't all mothers nurture their children instead of put them down and push them out of their lives? What did this kid do that was so wrong besides be a teenager??
I can't stand closed minded people.

hey dammit! it's random! does there have to be an explanation behind everything??:lol:
Samantha's mom. She's just saying and doing things to her that no mother should do to their child. Sam doesn't go up there often, so her mom got pissed and told her that she (Sam) threw them (Sam's parents) out of their lives, so that's how she was going to let her have it. Now she refuses to speak to Sam or hear any explanation as to why Sam doesn't want to be up there. She's being irrational, and it's getting on my nerves, because it's upsetting Sam.
I don't know what to do at this point except see if it'll blow over. Seems like there's really no talking to her mom.

omg who is the child, here? i know parents make mistakes but please.
I have a friend whose mother is kinda acting the same way. my friend's been catching up for lost times with her dad (her mom would bad mouth her dad when she was growing up and my friend believed her mom..now she knows better) . well the mother is getting upset by it and once told her that he's not even her real dad. omg.
then they got in a fight over christmas. her mom sent her a long email telling her that no mother should ever have to hurt the way she hurt her over christmas. and blah blah blah. she would throw in "honey" or "darling" sarcastically. she even told her she was filled with hate and may god have mercy on her soul :lol::lol::lol:
i know that doesn't help much, but you are the best thing that ever happened to that girl and just keep that in mind. be thankful she has someone to lean on. even if it isn't her real mother. you are an angel maria :angel::angel:

I just don't understand how a mom can do that. I can see where her mom's feelings could be hurt, but then, you have to let a teenager be a teenager. Sam's being a teenager. But she's happy here, and she's doing well here. And she wants to be here. I give her mom credit where credit is due: she was selfless in letting Sam come here and live. And I can see where "empty nest syndrome" has kicked in, but you can't just give your kid the cold shoulder because she's having fun.
Thanks Michelle... sometimes I need to hear that I'm an angel. Or am I a ruthless person who stole another person's daughter?? At this point, I'm not sure. Is this pent up resentment towards me that she's taking out on Sam?? I'm sure there's some there.

well, exactly. it should be whatever should better the child, not the parent. I get that it's her daughter and she should get time with her. time so they can know each other and bond. and i don't really think it's the child's choice on where they should go, but if she's doing well where she is vs there, then i think she should stay.
and of course you are. there are not a lot of people who would do what you are doing. raising someone else's child? that is a very selfless thing, so why would you even think it's a bad thing?

I guess because there's a resentment building behind it. Whether it's said or not, I know it's there. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. And if I had things to do over again, I wouldn't do a damn thing different. She's my kid now, too. And I love her as much as I do my Sara. She needed an adult in her life that not only gives some structure, but can be a friend too when it's appropriate.

BINGO. I'm not excusing mom's behavior, but she's probably thinking Sam "picked you" over her. Oversimplified & not really true, but she's obviously not thinking rationally right now. Hopefully mom will calm down & this doesn't permanently damage their relationship.

Pouring rain in NYC today, washed away the little bit of white snow we had gotten yesterday evening. Today all grey...puddles, raw outside. Day before yesterday, frigid frigid cold that you thought your face would crack. Yesterday not as cold but there was snow, today rain. Winter in NYC now? Mostly rain. Occasional snow and ice (none last month, first time in 75 years there was no snow in Jan in NYC) alternating with cool, dry days.
When I got on the subway today (packed because no one wants to walk in the rain if they could help it) the train was a steam bath. So humid, that the windows in all cars were completely fogged up. The floor was all wet, salt, grime so you couldn't even out your bag down. Smooshed wet newspapers on the floor too, gross. If I were the conductor of the subway, I'd crank up the air con on a day like today, because it was so uncomfortable with all the moisture. The air con would have taken care of it, much like your defroster in your car. Don't get me wrong, I love NY. But, if the calendar says winter, then so be it. This rain is such a downer.
