Add to that the idea that she was willing to take a risk and play risky song on this very abbreviated tour, maybe Brian was right and this tour will be more similiar to the wonderful set list of the enchanted tour. I can dream, right!

I'm sorry but there's no way they're doing Highwayman at this point. They can't close with a song people don't know.
To be added in Gold Dust Tour: Fall From Grace, Sorcerer, If Anyone Falls, I Need To Know, HAEWFY.
Hopefully mystery song will stay!!

Comments like this is why Stevie Doesn't take chances. She gets confused about what is and isn't her vault. It seems better that we get a song we haven't heard her perform live before than another song from the vaults, like Stand Back.

Here are the lyrics to Circle Dance for those curious:
I dont’ know why it should be so hard
Givin’ up this circle dance
Worn out steps from long ago
Don’t give love a chance
It’s a bitter heirloom handed down
These twisted parts we play
I’m not her and you’re not him
It just comes out that way
Can’t go back to make things right
(though I) wish I’d understood
Time has made things clearer now
We did the best we could
I’ll be home soon, that’s what you’d say
And a little kid believes
After a while I learned that love
Must be a thing that leaves
I tried so hard just to hold you near
Was as good as I could be
Even when I had you here
You stayed so far from me
Can’t go back to make things right
(though I) wish I’d understood
Time has made things clearer now
You did the best you could
Now that this has occurred to me
I just wanted you to know
I’ve been too faithful all my life
It’s time to let you go
Seems to kind of support those saying this tour maybe Stevie's way of saying goodbye.

Actually I thought Carly Simon's Itsy Bitsy Spider was quite inspired. Sorry, hawkeye, but people want to hear something new. It's not like the entire setlist was covers. It wasn't. It mostly catered to those that wanted to hear what she usually plays so the fact that she dropped two songs you wanted to hear is just too bad.

Well in fairness to Hawkeye, Circle Dance is a very slow song a la Landslide so it doesn't exactly replace Fall From Grace. In fact, it appears it replaced Landslide.

THREE, How Still My Love was song I was DYING to hear. If she had dropped Dreams Id be very happy, but she didnt. She dropped her own slightly obscure songs and INTK. I ALSO want to hear something new you idiot, but something ELSE thats new.

That song was written by Roger McGuinn of The Byrds if I'm not mistaken.
Yes, I just looked it up - written by Roger McGuinn & Chris Hillman. Recorded by Petty in '85.
I'm listening to Petty's version right now - I can't WAIT to hear Stevie do it!!!

Okay, yeah, dropping FFG was not my favorite move. But, whatevs. Actually, I may kill myself if I have to hear Outside the Rain again, so I see your point. But still!!!
You Don't Like Outside The Rain Live??? That is like my favorite live Stevie solo song!!! It rocked in Vegas!

HAVE YOU EVER EVEN HEARD CIRCLE DANCE?
I just heard a 30 second clip on Amazon, not all that impressed, and seriously in a set with Beauty and the Beast 2 songs later there's just no need for a song this slow.

Am I the only one seriously dissapointed here. Why the hell cant she pull a song of HERS out of the vault instead of covering Bonnir Rait. Not impressed at all. And where's I Need to Know. She dropped it in favor of another Petty song. Where's Fall from Grace. I hope this Circle Dance is dropped when Petty leaves. The Vegas set list was better.
Petty didn't write that song. I'm glad she was so adventurous.

I'd actually argue that doing the Raitt song was no more risky than doing Fall From Grace because the audience was filled with people who wouldn't know either song. So telling a little story in advance about how she's going to do a cover and then saying the name of an artist that many people who would go to a Henley/Nicks show would recognize and like --- or doing a song like FFG that potentially the majority of folks wouldn't know -- I'm not sure one is riskier than the other.
HOWEVER.
Doing this cover instead of Landslide, which would have been the most well-received song of the night, was very risky. For that, and the damn studded pants, I'm loving Stevie extra special tonight. :woohoo:

Well she will never drop Dreams, so...I never expect that one. I knew the set would be shortened, and I like the set, personally, that's just my opinion...my picks for something "new" wouldve probly been diff than the songs she picked, but its her show, and she cant please everyone--so I'm happy for them...you might say I WISH SHE WOULD DROP DREAMS, but thousands other fans might be pissed--so

That is strange that she would throw out her most recognizable tune (Landslide) for an obscure cover. I am glad though! Landslide is one Stevie song that is getting OLD!!!!

I can't believe people are grousing about this set list! This is the most adventurous Stevie's been since the Enchanted tour! Come on, she did several covers, dueted with Don on some stuff she's never done live with him before... This is about as novel as it gets with Stevie! I'm psyched to see the show...
And by the way, "Circle Dance" is a beautiful song.

Tiff:
Are you able to get any info on:
How she sounded/acted? High notes? No risk taking? Nervous? Happy?
What the crowd reaction was like, esp. for the "different" tunes? Was the venue full?
What she wore over the Bedazzler pants? And did she wear the pants for Henley's set only, I assume?
BTW - Where's Brian - wasn't he going to text someone too (or is that who you've been talking with Tiff?) Let's hope & pray he got it recorded.
My goodness, I'm a nervous Nellie tonight! :o

I'd be a lot more excited if I were familiar with the cover songs, but I am not that upset with the setlist. I just wish that if she were doing new songs live they were her own! Sorry...

On the phone with Marissa right now. Don joked that he was just opening for Stevie. During Don's set she wore black pants with rhinestones or studs or something on the side, with stiletto ankle boots. Changed back into the black dress and shawls for her set. She introduced Circle Dance as one of her favorite Bonnie Raitt songs. There was handshaking, and the venue was fuller than expected.

I'm not contradicting myself. All that I am saying is that no matter what she cuts or adds someone would not like it. I would say it's safe to say that MOST casual fans, and we all know many will be at this show, would rather hear DREAMS and have it stay in the set..although myself I could do with or without it

Just got off the phone with my friend George.
Jotted down some of the things he said.
I should add that George has been a fan since 1977, and has seen Stevie dozens of times on, I believe, every tour from 1982 forward.
He told me "everyone always says this, but she really did sound terrific and looked so beautiful and sexy." He also said that she was in "a fantastic mood," was being "very playful," and did a little "hula dance" during "Outside The Rain."
Before she left the stage after singing during Don's set, Don said she was going backstage to "try on clothes"... during which time, Stevie modelled her pants for the audience.
George also felt her and Don's chemistry was far more exciting than her and Lindsey's on the 'SYW' tour, and that she was "energized," "animated" and seemed very happy to be there. :D
