I believe that the outfit she wears in that clip is one of the most flattering we have seen in ages, that gorgeous long cloak over the white, along with the hair, and the absolute nailing...absolutely beautiful...except for the bloody hecklers lol...is that clip from Tuesday or Wednesday night?
EDIT: Oops saw date on website...I am also lead to believe the tenth was filmed in entirety wasn't it? Is this also true for the 11th because that was great camera work and quality too!

Oh, so you're the only one who didn't cry. Always the party pooper. JK. ;)
Just so everyone doesn't get TOO excited, I took this on my little Kodak 4 megapixel camera. It has video capabilities, and since I have a large memory card in it, I was able to capture the whole song.
I would have taken more video earlier, but 1) I had no clue how much time I had on the card & wanted to get still pics too, which also take up memory, obviously; and 2) They were allowing cameras in, but video was a no-no. I was very worried they would take it away & I would lose everything. I'm shocked I was able to get B&tB in its entirity holding the camera up right in front. Turned out I probably had another 15 minutes on the card, but hindsight is 20/20 - if I had been trying to get HSML on vid, I wouldn't have gotten down to the front to argue with security first & we wouldn't have B&TB at all. "So we make our choices...." :D
So, I have heard that the entire show was put on DVD on Tues & Wed, but not by me. I have no clue what point of view from the stage it will be, how close, what quality, etc. But I figured I could at least share this little bit with you guys. I'm so glad you've all enjoyed it. I know I have (several times, lol!)

Thank you so much Paula!!!!!!!!!!! And Chris for hosting it. This really brings back the memory. I still get chills.
I know! I keep watching it, and every time the same thing - chills, eyes tear up. I'm such a nerd. :p
BTW - a few things I wanted to point out:
One thing that pissed me off was that there was a TV tray at the front of the stage for Stevie's water. WTF? A tv tray? Couldn't they have draped it in velvet or something? You can see it in the vid. It annoys me to no end.
You can see the grand piano draped in blue velvet with the candelabra (sp) at the end when she's walking offstage. Gorgeous - I only wish I had gotten a shot of Mr. Plunkett playing before she came out, but I was in awe & thought of it too late.
Note the back of her cloak when she walks offstage - there's really cool detailing from her lower back all the way to the floor.
Oh - and it's the "pain" on "pleasure and pain" that gets me every time. And "I'll change!" And "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" And.... :D

Thanks SO much for posting this, Chris and Paula. The video brought back some great memories. BATB was so absolutely stunning that I still haven't gotten over it yet. The same goes for HSML & Sorcerer on Wed. night. She was so damn sexy that night.

Oh Paula...I agree with the tv tray. WTF?!?
I am crying AGAIN. Both nights, I cried like I baby. The whole show was that good but this song was the best, IMHO.
I was near "sing it for me stevie" A-Hole and I am thankful you cannot hear my "will you shut the HELL up" in your video....honestly..I wanted to slap him..Hard. He was such a freaking jackass. I know she heard him cause she heard that guy say "carlos rocks" from exactly the same spot and he didnt even scream it like a banchee!
Thanks to Chris for hosting. I sooo wanted the people who did not attend to be able to see this. I mean how can you diss the show after watching this?!?

No need to apologize, I'm really glad you said something. I imagine Stevie was annoyed and creeped out by this man herself. There were people near me who were getting all hysterical about positioning and such during Edge and I just put my finger to my lips and gave small shhh, as politely as possible, and it worked! But there was a woman in my section during the whole show yelling I LOVE YOU STEVIE. I never figured out who it was to ask her to shut the hell up!

Yea, it was weird watching it live... I never cry at concerts or movies or anything. Not during Landslide or even Beautiful Child... but seeing Beauty and the Beast really got to me. It was that in the back of your throat type where it wants to close so you can't breathe type of sobbing like a baby does gasping for air. I scared myself. Stevie got to me, man.... she really got to me! heehee... bad part is, once I start, it's hard to stop, so since it was the last song of the night, I had to hurry up and plug the dam cuz the house lights were gonna come on.

I tell you what, that is the video f**cking capture of the century. Great job. Sesly, though, you guys who weren't there, you should have seen it on Tuesday night - dead silence. You could feel the collective awe and disbelief of the entire audience that night. (Oh, and by the way? On Friday's performance, people got even more annoying, everyone was screaming during every fricking part.  I still cried, though). Oh, and for Fri, no security for the edge rush. :D
Oh, and also, for BATB - The Cocteau film showing on the background screen was perfect, and added sooo much to it. It really was a completely mesmerizing experience.

so my neighbor (83YO crab who lacks hearing), right before she asked me to close my door, she said that it was a really good song. i don't know if she was kidding or not  she also said something like 'welcome home' - a definite clue that she was kidding...

I don't know if anyone else thinks this, but sometimes you get so caught up in the excitement of a show, and it's fantastic, but then you hear a boot of it and you are like "ehhhh". Cocteau's film available on Amazon....
I really want this badly.I've owned a VHS copy of it for about 18 years now, I think, but I had been debating getting that DVD for quite some time now. Finally, about two months ago, Romy (serrart) convinced me to just plunk down the money and get the sucker.
I'm so happy I did... and you'll be glad you did, too, Suzy.
The remaster is AMAZING... worlds better than the old VHS transfer. The special features are pretty impressive, especially for such an old movie... and a Foreign one at that.
And the French dialogue has been re-translated for even greater accuracy... though I have to admit that I usually get so caught up in the movie, that I don't pay a lick of attention to the subtitles.
Funny thing is, I first saw the movie late on a Saturday night, on PBS, and fell in love with it... as I recall, it was before I had even heard Stevie's song. I was just always enamored with the story of the Beauty and the Beast. Hopeless romantic that I am. :o

Thanks for posting the video so we can relive the memories for years to come! :wavey: I love when she emoted with her hand on her face. I thought she was going to cry! Can we all say that without a doubt these Beauty and The Beast Vegas performances are the best in recorded history since At Last in 2000 or maybe Silver Springs in 1997? I feel so blessed to have seen her do this song in Vegas. I litterally almost fainted (doesn't that sound manly???... but I couldn't help it, I was weak in the knees!) I couldn't even clap or scream when the song was over because I was in shock!

As far as love songs go, I think BATB is mostly about the movie. Any personal connection for Stevie is likely unrelated to Mick, imo, regardless of how often she points us in that direction. They lyrics don't work that way if you really listen and think about what she's saying. I always viewed Stevie as a bit conceited and full of herself when she was younger, but even she's not conceited enough to mean some of those lyrics literally. None of the lyrics apply to anything she's said about her relationship with Mick or anything he's said about it either. It never seemed devastating to either one when they stopped seeing each other. They always maintained a good friendship even though Mick dumped Stevie for her friend who he later married. Stevie seemed ok with it, like she seems to be with Mick's current wife and family. I also don't think either of them felt they were incompatible or from different worlds. They shared a close friendship and similar lifestyle when they were an item and also after they stopped seeing each other. They maintained a friendship based on their similar lifestyles. I don't think Mick ever wanted or expected Stevie to change. Even at the time the RR video of BATB was made, Mick and Stevie enjoyed a lot of partying and high times. I don't see the connection to a great loss or the unresolved guilt I feel strongly in this song. Stevie's personal deamons are making their way out during her performances and people are probably feeling some of that. Of course, when she asks the question who is the beauty and who is the beast, everyone knows the beast is Stevie, right? The answer to the other question is anyone's guess, but Mick isn't on my list of suspects. None of the lyrics fit him except people think Stevie is so rude she'd imply Mick is a beast because some people think he's not good looking. She isn't talking about anyone's looks. Stevie is not that shallow.

Excellent post and great points. I think that initially, she wrote the song to reflect the movie because of the romanticism that seems to be the underlying theme (and you know she loooves to get caught up in that and let herself go). I recall an interview (actually, it might have been one of the demos of B&TB) where she discusses at great length how she felt after seeing the film for the first time. However, I think now she's able to apply certain metaphors in the song to mirror her own life (as you said, Stevie is the beast and no, not in literal terms). Reflecting on Stevie's past relationships, there were several people she went out with that weren't great lookers but had good personalities so I agree, the beast wouldn't be Mick.

Oh, yeah, I did read that and laughed my ass off. I also think Mick is whoreanus, but I think Stevie thinks Mick is quite a dandy. I don't think she's dying of unrequited love for him but she isn't always attracted to the best looking guys. She thinks she's in love with everyone and everyone looks good to her at one point or another.

BATB is absolutely about Mick. Check out the Timespace liner notes...
I quote "WRITTEN FOR MICK FLEETOWOOD...This was inspired by the Jean Cocteau movie from the '30s. When I first saw it, the story itself was happening in my life-- my beast was slipping away from me... my heart was breaking, but I learned something that became a difficult lesson-- you are not always the beast, and many times you are not the beauty... remember this." Could she be any more clear?
Side note - if anyone happened to have heard the KLOS Jim Ladd interview last month Stevie goes into detail how about incredibly painful her breakup with Mick was and states it was one of the most difficult times of her entire life. This is when she wrote Storms (which she adorably refers to as "Always Been a Storm").

You've both made some good points - it's all of the above, imo. It may be about Mick, to some degree, in that she wrote it right after THEY broke up. It may be about breakups in general, or impossible relationships - the star-crossed lover syndrome, but I think Stevie herself said it best in the liner notes. Also worth noting from those same liner notes, it's dedicated to Vincent and Catherine - the characters' names in the TV show, BATB... :p

I know I've heard and read things through the years about how hard that breakup was for her. She was madly in love with him and it hurt her and maybe it still does to think about, if this is something she talked about a month ago! I also think it might have been uncomfortable for Mick to be there for that performance, which is why he distracted himself possibly. He had to know how much he hurt her. I always suspected Storms was about Mick, but whoa! She wrote the most beautiful songs about him. BATB and Storms are two of my absolute favorite songs ever and both can make me cry and often do! I'm going to watch the BATB video again now.

Yeah, I gotta say, this one seems pretty clear to me, too. Not only because she has said it and written about it, but because I really believe their love affair WAS all that. If there was equal evidence that it was about Lindsey, I'm not sure anyone would doubt it. But her love for Mick, though much shorter compared to her relationship with Lindsey, was, according to her, really deep and a huge part of her life. But it seems to give people the willies. She apparently locked herself in her room for days after he dumped her - but I think that was just the climax to the realization they both had had that they couldn't continue. I had always thought Storms was for Mick, too. Who I also do believe was the Beast. He was beautiful to her on the inside. I think, in fact, that Stevie has never been blinded by good looks. Sure, she dated Lindsey, and Don was considered hot in his day - but she has proven that she doesn't judge her boys by their looks. Anyway... this is so starting to ramble. Will stop now.

Stevie was madly in love with everyone she was ever involved with. The shorter the relationship the more devastating it was to her. BTW, Mick didn't distract himself at the show. He was not paying attention during most of it. He looked bored to me. He was mostly talking and playing with his kids. I was sitting right across from him. If it was too painful for him to watch he didn't have to come to the show. The fact that they have remained close friends and never rekindled any romance to anyone's knowledge, even given many opportunities when neither was attached or when there was no band to speak of, is more than enough proof for me that Stevie makes a big deal out of the Mick affair, because not to shows something about her she doesn't like to admit...the fleeting affairs habit. Mick goes along with her story because it keeps Stevie happy with the drama. Both songs everyone loves so much about Mick, Storms and BATB, are really about Stevie more than anyone else. jmho

Because it gave her something to write about  In many of her songs there's a huge trend...the longing, the heartache, the relationship that could never work (mainly in part because if she made it work, she'd have nothing to write about when you think about it). Just my .02

Are some of you admitting that Stevie is a liar? If so, are we going to assume she can lie (stretch the truth, whatever) equally about her relationship with Lindsey and songs about Lindsey as she apparently does in relation to Mick? If she had said that Storms was written about Lindsey, I can assume everyone would quite willingly jump on board with that explanation. No matter she says, the theories are always swayed towards her sole devotion to Lindsey. I didn't mean it as an accuastion, surely those who I'm describing admit this?
I just do not get why the assumption is she is lying. I think she is doing nothing of the sort, despite your obvious glee at a potential Stevie slight :p I mean exactly how is her saying she wrote the song about the characters in the movie and then while writing thinking hey this is kind of going on in my life - and then writing with that personal emotion in ANY WAY to be contrued as a lie? Same with songs she says are about LB - Landslide being the perfect example. She said it was about: (1) her parents pressing her to leave the music business and; (2) LB. Well, it is consistent to say it could be about both. She could have been sitting there thinking LB has left me to go on tour with the Everely Brothers and I am stuck without a job and my parents are offering me financial freedom and we are not making it in the music business. Those seemingly are consistent thoughts  Thus, I think it is incorrect to say she lied.

Actually I wasn't saying whether I think she's a liar either way. I was just commenting on the need for her to be forgetting, speaking metaphorically or whatever when something loving and meaningful is said to be about Mick (or someone else but particularly Mick) and the need for it to be the absolute truth when a loving and meaningful piece is about Lindsey. It's not some new observation, it's blatantly obvious. And again, I assume that the people who I'm referring to are not crazy, also realise this and see the obvious swaying. If I'm wrong and they truly believe the convenient inconsistency then maybe they are a little loopy.

Uhm, newsflash... Stevie's a drama queen. Even says as much about herself.
She's also a romantic.
Artists use pain for inspiration, and Stevie romanticizes her broken relationships because it provides inspiration for her songs.
I do believe "Beauty And The Beast" and "Storms" touch on some aspects of her relationship with Mick. I don't think he's the be-all and end-all behind them though. Certainly the former is mainly inspired by the film, but for a song to have been written with such conviction, it's obvious that Stevie related to it.
And yes, I do think Stevie loved Mick.
You can love many people over the course of a lifetime... that's really not a bad thing, nor something to be ashamed of... nor does it negate the impact of past relationships.

I wouldn't get on board with that theory. If what she has for Lindsey is devotion, he's in worse trouble than I thought. But certainly Mick, and Don, and Joe Walsh, and Waddy, and God knows who else, are in those songs, too.
In fact, I've often thought that aspects of many of those relationships are touched upon even in the course of one song.
The one major pattern in Stevie's romantic life, is that she dated strong-willed men, had tempestuous relationships with them, and then the relationship ended. So by that criteria, even a song like "Silver Springs" could be attributed to her relationship with Don Henley, for example.
I think people just feel it's more romantic if they're all about Lindsey.

I agree with everything you've said. I just have a different theory why people still believe she has a strong connection to Lindsey and why everything must be about him. The reason for that is their relationship appears to be the most unresolved of all her past affairs. You can't deny the fact that Mick, Don or even Joe, with whom she has no apparrent relationship, have resolved their past, one way or the other. The fact that Mick or Don could come to an event for Stevie and not be questioned about why they were there, like Vegas, yet it's a big controversy if Lindsey is seen there. Why? I know people don't believe he was in Vegas. I didn't see him. I talked to a lot of people including men who are not big Stevie fans who know what he looks like and said they saw him in the hotel. Why is it a big deal one way or the other? The fact that it is makes people more suspicious than they would be if he just came to a show and sat in the audience the same as Mick or Don would shows me they are uncomfortable themselves with whatever still exists between them. We are supposed to believe Lindsey and Stevie have the same friendly working and social relationship that she has with Mick or Don. Yet, even when his own niece and sister in law are at a Stevie event, he cannot be seen there. Their own behavior and fears about how people view their current relationship is what feeds people's curiosity. I know I've wondered about what's with them recently when I never did before. I think many issues are still unresolved between them, though they seem to be able to put the past aside, maybe not behind, and work together. That's all I care about.

I asked this in another one of the threads, but I'll ask it again. Why is it a controversy if he goes to one of her shows? I'm really confused because first Cory lied to me and now Stevie lies about her love affair with Mick? I think their relationship ending was resolved. Like Mick dumped Stevie for her best friend, Stevie dumped Lindsey because they didn't get along and she wanted to get with one of the Eagles. Same situation. So how is their relationship unresolved and Mick and Stevie's is resolved? In both relationships, someone got dumped for someone else. I think because either Stevie or Lindsey walked away from the band at different times that they were in need of closure, whereas Mick didn't walk, so he and Stevie got their closure. What is supposed to be with Stevie and Lindsey recently that makes you wonder and why is it a controversy if he goes to one of her shows? What reason would Cory have to lie to me?

Lord Have Mercy. Another argument about what or WHOM a Stevie song is about. It's all fascinating, what everyone says and thinks about the subjects of these songs : the aftermath, how psychotic or delusional the people involved are or were, and the veracity of Stevie's statements regarding the inspiration for her songs. I myself have frequently expressed puzzlement over the endless obsession with Lindsey in Stevie's songwriting, if only for the reason that I think it somewhat sad that her main inspirational love affair ended almost 30 years ago.
However, I think the doubt and suspicion about her veracity and her recollection of events, inspirations etc. reveal two things about some of the people who disbelieve her :
1) You have never truly been in love.
2) You have never created a piece of art inspired by it.

I could go with this if I believed Stevie was an emotionally and mentally stable person who knew anything about love. Since I don't, it leaves me wondering why only those who suffer from their relationships feel they've truly been in love? Why is art only inspirational when based on pain or anguish? What's untrue about love created and held in a lasting relationship without pain or strife? You believe like Stevie that great art can only come from great pain? I don't.

Many artists create their best work through an expression of pain or loss... and the majority of people relate to art (music, poetry, paintings) created under those conditions.
If Kahlo or Picasso or Lorca or Dickinson had been shiny, happy people, would their output have been as compelling or moving to so many?

Besides people involved in her career in some capacity as co-workers, employees, or other industry professionals, do you really believe she has many close, decades-long friendships? Are there really that many people who still have "many" close friends from 25-35 years earlier in their life?
Unfortunately, childhood friendships often don't remain as close into adulthood. People go off to college, maybe get married or have children or find some great job in another city or state... life moves on.
I'd be willing to bet that the friendships of most average people, are largely made up of co-workers, current or former. The people we meet as adults and see on a regular basis.
Do you really believe her family is as close and loving as she wants people to think?Yeah, I know I'd let my brother and his family share my house if I didn't love him.

Waddy knew her before she was famous, and they're still friends. Does that count?
Rick Nowels was a friend of hers when she was a teenager, and he's still a friend. How about him?
Do you think she is friends with anyone who knows what she's like when not being Stevie Nicks the star? And do you think she's a rock star 24-7?
People like Sharon, Lori, Jessica, Sara Recor-Fleetwood, Karen Johnston... they don't get to ever see her when she's not "Stevie the rock star"?

I don't know if that's the case, although I'm not speaking specifically about those mentioned. Art of a darker nature certainly does more for me but take someone such as Lennon who expressed so much anguish and his most remembered is Imagine? Now I'm not sure what we're actually talking about but this seemed relevant to something said.Good point, Lux... but "Imagine" is a song born out of the deep sadness Lennon felt regarding the state of the world.
So even though it expresses a longing for a better life, it's certainly born out of pain.

Actually, you said I didn't know about true love if I doubted Stevie's sincerity or truthfulness. You also said I never made anything artistic from being inspired by true love. That's how we got here. You know less about me than either one of us knows about Stevie. The one person who probably does know her the best is the one she seems to be the most afraid of. I find that interesting. My original point was, just because Stevie knows how to screw up relationships and then write songs about them, doesn't mean she knows more about true love than the next person. That's true but touches on the fact (or maybe it's opinion) that there's no bliss without comparitive pain and no pain without comparitive bliss. If a positive song is about the reality being the opposite or the sadness the artist is emerging from, you could say that a depressing song about longing is actual about the desired happy state. For example, Lou Reed's Perfect Day seems obviously depressing but by this definition it could be a positive song about the desired happiness. Again, I forget how we got here but I find it much more interesting than any bootlegged concert. But you're absolutely right, Lux.
"There can be no darkness without light, and there can be no light without darkness."
It's one of the ultimate paradoxes... one must know sadness to TRULY know happiness, and vice versa. Otherwise the depth of feeling isn't as rich.
And, yes, I truly believe that most people write a sad poem, song, story, etc., not to wallow in their misery, but out of longing for the happiness that has proven ellusive thus far. They're aware of happiness... they've tasted it... and they want to taste it again. So that makes the feeling of sadness all the more acute.
Again, we all can relate to that on some level or another... much moreso than relating to being blissfully happy.

I said to you: "I think the woman knows as much about LOVE, in its various forms, as anyone does."
I also said: "Many artists create their best work through an expression of pain or loss... and the majority of people relate to art (music, poetry, paintings) created under those conditions."
I don't see how either of those statements, or the comments that surrounded them, could be construed as me saying that you don't know about true love, or that you've never created anything artistic.
Although, sparky said:Are you confusing his comments with mine?
And my point is that, simply because she hasn't had a lasting romantic relationship, it's not evidence that she doesn't know what true love is.
Oops. Yes, I was getting you two mixed up. Sorry about that. I still stand by my belief that she doesn't know more about true love than the next person just because she knows how to have painful relationships. I do think her inability to sustain a lasting relationship shows she does not know a lot about true love. She knows plenty about fantasy love but not the real thing. If she did, she would find a way to nurture it even if that meant not having as much drama and suffering to sustain her unique career.

I disagree. I think because a woman or a man hasn't been able to sustain a relationship, it doesn't mean they don't know about true love. I love Stevie, I am inspired by her and she makes me cry and smile at the same time so I can say this with love. :xoxo: In her younger days, she was flighty. She was a rock star groupie. I think, though, that she had some intense love affairs with Lindsey, Mick, Don, Joe and others. I honestly think she toyed with Lindsey. They were so young when they got together and once she had a taste of what was out there, Lindsey got boring. Don was fascinating, hot, mega-successful and she couldn't resist the temptation. I think she was dumbstruck she'd hit the big time and Lindsey was the small town boy she left to be with him. I think she actually fell in love hard with Mick and with Joe. Those are the two men I think who broke her heart. I think she was and probably is capable of love. Capable of sustaining a relationship, I think is doubtful, but possible. She's definitely capable of love and knows about it. You can't write those songs and not feel something. I think she's also in love with the idea of love, too. It's harder to sustain on a day to day basis. For her to nurture it would mean giving up her jetset rock and roll lifestyle and I don't think she could do that for the long haul. But, I think she can love.

While I think Stevie loved Mick..I do not feel like she was as deeply in love with him as some of ya'll think. I have numerous reasons why I feel this way and it listing them will not change anyones mind. I do think she felt hurt and lost and perhaps abandoned when Mick dumped her for Sara. That was a first for Stevie..the one being left behind. I do think she wrote Storms at this time...after she was dumped. The lyrics to BaTB do not fit MICK at all. When I think about them and STEVIE..they make alot of sense. She was writing alot about herself in that song and perhaps admitting that maybe she was the one who was causing some of the drama, problems, dysfunction? She is telling someone she will change. Did Mick want her to change? No..doubt it. Did Mick feel like he would "die from grieving" if she left him? No..he had moved on to another woman. Just because the linear notes say written "for Mick Fleetwood" ...what exactly does that prove? Stevie also said "standing in a line" was about a friggin welfare line! It is unfair and unreasonable to expect her to be forthcoming about the inspiration to all her lyrics. They are diary entries for her basically and perhaps she is uncomfortable always talking about whom she is writing about. I do think she associates the song BaTB with Mick, in that he was there with her when the video was recorded etc but I do not think he inspired the lyrics at all. Nothing is clear from the linear notes to me! Stevie is not a liar but sometimes misleading. That is ok...and completely understandable.

I don't.
You evidently know a hell of a lot about her on a personal level. She's managed to stay out of mental hospitals so far.
I certainly don't believe that the only love that is "true" involves suffering. I do, however, know that most adults who have been in love have been through a good dose of anguish. That's simple math. Most people's first few relationships don't work out - they end. Those involved feel pain.
People we love die. It's part of being alive - losing love.
It's preposterous to think that great art can only come from great pain. It often does, though. In my experience it is also preposterous to think that any long lasting romantic relationship exists without pain or strife. Never heard of one yet. Doesn't make them more important, makes them normal.

Actually, you said I didn't know about true love if I doubted Stevie's sincerity or truthfulness. You also said I never made anything artistic from being inspired by true love.
That was me who posted that. And it wasn't specifically about you. It was about the pointless arguments people have about the inspiration for and explanations of Stevie's songwriting. I don't know what the hell you do or do not know about love, but you are adept at misinterpreting posts. I'll give you that.
My point, if I must go into slavish detail, is that art is never about one event or feeling, and rarely about one thing. As time goes on, and life unfolds, things we create take on different meanings, and we understand that maybe what we thought we were writing about was about a whole lot more than we realized at the time. Most people who write songs or anything else probably get that.
My original point was, just because Stevie knows how to screw up relationships and then write songs about them, doesn't mean she knows more about true love than the next person. She does know more about creating drama than I do. I'll give you that.
So Stevie has been responsible for the demise of all of her relationships ? All by herself ? That's a fun fact.
I would hope she has learned something about the intricacies of romantic involvement along the way. From some of the songs, I would submit that it seems she has. Just because one of those involvements didn't last forever means nothing.
I would hope she can create drama, or at least embrace it. She wouldn't be much of an artist if she couldn't, would she ?

Ok guys here's the link to the Jim Ladd interview I was referring to that Stevie did just this past March. She specifically says that her breakup with Mick was one of the most terrible times in her life so if anybody ever had any doubt how much this relationship meant to her this should ease your mind. I believe it's segment 7.
She also discusses the Vegas shows in this interview and talks about how she is going to go all out and break out all the old hats and outfits and how inspired she was by Elton John. Not that I am at all disappointed by the show but she did not go all out in any way. Just a few cape changes and a final change for Beauty. I guess this interview led me to believe she was going to be doing a lot more in terms of wardrobe.

Feh, she changes her stories with her underwear.
Personally, I've always thought that Beauty and the Beast was about all of her past relationships that soured; Buckingham, Henley, Fleetwood, etc. I don't think there's one particular person in it, I think she's reflecting on all of those relationships that dissolved and she's pondering why they did and wondering who the "Beast" was in them.

Oh - I agree  I just think some people do not want her ever to have had an affair with Mick, much less produced three of her most hauting songs (BC, Storms, and B&B) somewhat out of that affair. Interestingly, if you took the word Mick and put Lindsey in its place, there would be far less of an argument because more people like to see her with him.

And doesn't that kill the enjoyment of the song somewhat? Knowing who it's about down to the letter or guessing who it's about as if you know anything about their relationship to begin with? Why does anyone give a fiddler's fart if it's about Lindsey, Mick, or Ed Gein? I sure as **** don't. I listen to music to relate it to myself, not to get a glimpse into the romantic entanglements of a rock star that I've never even met.

Stevie herself has said she never reveals the real truth behind her songs and stories because she wants us to be able apply them to our own lives and learn from her lessons. In the end you are right - it shouldn't matter who these songs are about. I know many of Stevie's songs have gotten me through the toughest times in my life and I know that can be said for most of her fans so maybe it is just better if her lyrics are left to interpretation but at the same time I LOVE reading what they are about. It allows us to see a part of her and get to know her better and on a more personal level. Who could resist?

She does have an odd habit of doing that sometimes. I think she should respect her fans a little more instead of giving interviews where she spews out crap that never pans out. She is certainly not alone in the rock world with this kind of behavior. However, in today's world of sky high ticket prices, etc., it would be nice to get a promise delivered.
Stevie had MONTHS to prepare for four identical (meaning the setlists were not mixed up) shows with zero travel costs other than getting there and going home. She should have hired a production designer and done something different like she claimed she was going to do. All the media (mostly from the horse's mouth) stated that Vegas was giving her a chance to do something different. She didn't do ANYTHING different. It was the exact same show style she's been doing since the Bella Donna tour. BATB was ****ing awesome, but otherwise... feh, not worth it. She had the opportunity to actually pick a song that she has never done live, and perhaps always wanted to- however, she chickened out once again.
I wish she would have more courage.

When there's an argument about Stevie's song inspirations, is the argument really coming from people who don't think she loved Mick and some other men she was involved with, or is it coming from people who don't want to believe Stevie has a particular muse? I don't think anyone, except the people putting words in other people's mouths, said Stevie could not and did not love Mick. Some people don't think BATB is specifically about Mick, even though Stevie seems to want us to believe so. How does that mean those people won't accept she loved Mick? They just think the song is not about her sadness and pain over losing Mick as a lover. She says she wrote it for Mick, or it was inspired by events surrounding their breakup. I accept that. I think most people do. There's also a nuanced difference in saying a song is about someone, instead of for someone, or inspired by someone. Stevie knows that nuanced difference, and you do too, Jason. You used the nuances in what she said in the Ladd interview to defend her failure to deliver the show she promised. Stevie minces words a lot just like her buddy Bill Clinton, whom I also love. I don't see why a disagreement on her song inspirations always leads people to defending or attacking any believed attachment or love for anyone she's been in a relationship with.
To be fair, I sense just as much resistance here, if not more, to the idea that Stevie could have always been attached to Lindsey (stronger resistance if you say she still is) and he was a great muse for her songwriting, (again, stronger objections if anyone says he still is.) Why? I don't really get it any more than I get people saying she didn't love Mick. Posters who actually bring up her not loving Mick are the ones who attack posters saying she's still bonded to Lindsey. It's not the people who say she's still attached to Lindsey that are saying she couldn't or didn't love Mick. Isn't that weird?
I've noticed over the years that a lot of Stevie's devoted solo fans have a big problem with anyone implying she could have a needy attachment to Lindsey. If she actually did have such a bond and it still plays a large role in her emotional life, would that make you like her songs or her career any less? I'm not saying I side with anyone who thinks her songs are about anyone in particular. I don't think there should be arguments about what her songs mean unless people are open to seeing Stevie's songs as a reflection of her own conscience. Diss said something I agree with when he pointed out she's often reflecting about her own role in her past relationships when she writes. I think that's the most significant thing to note about BATB and Storms. I like what her songs mean to me and I don't care who she says her songs are written for, which is not the same as saying who they were written about.
I posted this next thing in another thread last night when I thought I was within the discussions in this thread. Too many threads to keep track of. lol! I'm putting it here too to follow up on why I said BATB is not about Mick, imo, but mostly about Stevie...any connection to other persons living or dead is coincidental and names have been changed to protect the innocent. ;)
-------------------------------------------------
From a Rolling Stone interview in 1981. This is the first thing she said publicly about the story of BATB.
Stevie says that her favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. She loved the fable as a child, but when she saw the Jean Cocteau film rendition in later years, her fascination was cemented. She'll recount her version of the yarn at the drop of a hat, claiming that, at the end of the fable, "Beauty became the Beast, and he became the beautiful one."
The story line, as Stevie tells it, concerns the plight of a sweet-natured woman named Beauty, the youngest of three otherwise repellent sisters, who volunteers to become a captive angel in the Beast's castle after her father incurs his wrath by plucking one of his prized roses. Beauty rides to her palatial prison on a magic white horse sent by the Beast and settles into a grotesque lifestyle wherein she spurns the affections of her gentlemanly captor, breaking his heart a little more each day with her increasingly cruel taunts in the face of his love.
When Beauty learns her father is dying, the Beast allows her to go to him, but warns that if she does not return by the seventh day, he will expire from despair. On the eighth day, she leaves her dead father and venal sisters and rushes back to the castle to find that the Beast is done for. In his last breath, he says that all a beast who loves her can do is die for her.
there are several more paragraphs to the article and then it ends with this last passage:
Sitting across from Stevie as she dries her eyes and slips back into here and now, I can think of only one appropriate question.
"In your version of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty finally understands that there are difficult choices to make in this world. Knowing her fate, if you were her, what would your decision have been?"
"I would have chosen the Beast," she says softly. "Absolutely."

Does anyone really believe Stevie sees Mick as a beautiful person after he dumped her for her friend and left her heartbroken? I'm sure that experience was somewhat of a wake-up call for her. She didn't fully realize what it meant to be on the receiving end of that traumatic experience until it happened to her.
For anyone who knows the story of BATB, without even reading this article, the heartbreak of the female character in the story comes from her realizing how badly she hurt somebody who deserved better than what her choices resulted in when she left him. They both suffered the consequences but it was too late to undo what had been done. If that IS the pain really coming through in this song, does it have to mean she never loved Mick? I'm sure he hurt her a great deal when he ended their affair and I think she loved him. But is it possible she feels a different loss or sorrow for someone else SHE might have hurt?

I have rad posts here and on Nancy's board by people who just refuse to believe that La Nicks could ever have been with Mick because they do not find Mick attractive. Some of these same people then go on to say the song must, therefore, be about LB - but some of these people think just about all of her songs are about LB  (no slam - just an observation and a gross generalization  ) That is where I was getting that from.
Again, I take Stevie at her word that she was writing a song about the movie and wither during it or afterward while recording it thought "hey - this fits into Mick and I's relationship" - thus, I think Mick is in there somewhere, but the song is about the analogous movie.
On edit - I agree in the sense that both she and Mick hurt each other in the end of that affair. I mean we really do not know all the facts about that break up other than they both said it was just too crazy to continue. For all we know, La Nicks and LB could have been little trysters on the side

I've noticed over the years that a lot of Stevie's devoted solo fans have a big problem anyone implying she could have a needy attachment to Lindsey. If she actually did have such a bond and it still plays a large role in her emotional life, would that make you like her songs or her career any less?
i rely on the fact that she has some incredible, unending attachment/connection to him. the - is it pain? longing? even failure? - that she feels where he is concerned and puts out in her music, that is what hits home for me.
doesn't everyone have that person; the one who you see in your dreams, the one who fits into all of those song lyrics, the one who somehow managed to come and go? i've got him. it's been years, but he was that first love... the love inside of a whirlwind, the innocent love that felt so new. the one who didn't have the same big dreams. the one who would have held me back. the one i left behind...
and now, these many years later, how much of that is true? my dreams proved to be too big, i was too stubborn. he would have held me back? he would have given me everything that new york didn't. do i regret the choices that i made? no. does that make it better/easier? no.
so anyways... we all have our reasons for connecting with stevie's music. that is my reason. that is also why i think that it is perfectly possible that every song she has ever written has a sprinkle of lindsey in it. not because she's writing a song and it is about him, but because he's always been in the back of her mind. her saying that a song is inspired by or written for mick, that's fine. he was probably there in the back of her mind, too. i always thought that BATB was the inner-stevie coming to light. and ps, i would have picked the beast, too.

I agree with everything you said here...with one exception. The assumption that her main inspirational love affair ended almost 30 years ago. I am not saying it did or it didn't, just your assumption that it did. I have no doubt that Stevie has fallen in love many, many times in the life. With Mick, Don, Joe, Waddy...etc...and various others that we will never know the names of. I have used your #1 example in the past, to point out the very fact that you must admit, it is at least a possibility that the SnL love affair has never really ended. The proof to me is everywhere...come on...I'm a shipper....I have super powers and x-ray vision. But the most significant indicator to me is not in what either one of them do say....but what they don't. Let's face it Lindsey could desimate her if he wanted to. Glitter had a really interesting post awhile back, about the fact that no matter what Stevie says in an interview...about him.....good or bad....true or false.....he rarely comes to his own defense, or even contradicts her. He produces songs for her, as recently as SYW, in which she tells the world that in 1998, he threw himself down in front of her like a barricade and finally told her...just how difficult it had been to be without her. 1998? I thought he got over all of that when he left in 1987? We pick Stevie's songs apart, breaking them down line by line, and yet if you took a look at his....especially the OOTC songs and GOS songs...they scream Stevie. Her essence is all over them...right down to the VSO harmony parts he added to them. So I won't sit here and say they never loved other's, quite the contrary, I just think there is always a sense in their music of "the eternal return." (Sorry couldn't resist. :D) And as Glitter also so astutely pointed out, it is that very thing that keeps the controversy and speculation ongoing.

Jason...please direct me to the place where Stevie has said BC is about the Mickster? We know Storms is about him, we know she says she wrote BaTB "for Mick Fleetwood" but BC??? Or is that one of your assumptions? BTW...you always cite Landslide as an example when discussing who or what Stevie's songs are about. I will say.."she said in Boston it was written for and ABOUT Lindsey..he inspired the song". You will say that her dad, the music business, etc is in there too. Ok. so if that is the case why is BaTB explicitly about Mick when she has said "for Mick Fleetwood?" I cannot follow that logic. If she says a song is about LB...others could be in there as well but if she says a song is "for Mick" it is about ONLY Mick and the movie? Huh?

I thought she said that about BC  If she did not, oops :o :o :o and I not going back through all those interviews  On edit - now that I think about it, we had a big discussion on Nancy's board awhile back about it and many seemed to think BC was about Mick.
As for Beauty and the Beast, I think she wrote the song about the movie and somewhere in that she came to the conclusion in that romantic mind of her's that her life with Mick was like the lives of beauty and her beast, which maked the song more personal to her and about her in a round about way. But, since the song is about the two characters in the movie and that is a general theme of suffering for love, etc. - it could very well be that she also thought about LB, Don, or any knows who else when thinking up her romantic notions. However, unlike your example of Landslide, which she has publicly stated is about more than LB - though that was her last statement on it which people apparently think negates all other statements  - all we know for sure from her about Beauty and the Beast is that she wrote it based on the movie and then projected her relationship with Mick onto that. I do not think she ever said anything about it other than that  though she may have and I just do not remember

I think "Beauty & the Beast" is Stevie & Mick & their relationship & whatever was good about it & whatever was bad about it, & I think some stuff that isn't very pleasant is also bundled up in the whole phantasmagoria, like the death of Mick's dad from cancer (he died when the band was on its summer 1978 tour) & perhaps other illnesses & deaths in Stevie's life around that time. And of course there's that wonderful Jean Cocteau movie, which Stevie showed her friends after she saw it the first time. On all the 1983 shows I heard, I don't remember Stevie mentioning Mick when performing it, but in 1986, she mentioned Mick a few times. I think the relationship between Stevie & Mick has always been very heavy & still is right up to this minute; whatever sort of jam she's been in over the years, she has often counted on Mick to get her out of it (I think she even wanted Mick to stop her marriage before it happened). She has also gotten angrier with him on several occasions than she seems to have ever been.
Wonder why "Beauty" wasn't put on the first solo album, too.
EDIT: Now I remember one time that Stevie did mention Mick when she sang it in 1983. It was one of the July shows, I think -- Cincinnati Riverfront or Alpine Valley? She said something about one of the memories she will have on her deathbed will be the memory of writing the song when "Wing Commander" was diagnosed with cancer, & then writing the song with Paul Buckmaster's orchestra in New York (or Dallas?) years later for her album.

I know - I wish she would tell all -- but she likes not to and it apparently works and at least we are interested in it to the point of discusion  I think she sets out to write about one thing or theme, but because she pulld from journal entries amde over a 30 years period, sometimes other things facor in. A good example of this is the "baby don't leave me" apparently originally intended for GDW - but then actually on IYEDB. I know there are other theories, but I think the GDW pleading (and the song itself actually) is her pleading with alter self (the same one she says is in SOTM) not to leave or she will lose her innocence, sense of self being, etc. In IYEDB - I think it has a whole other meaning and it literally is referring to a person.
I also think the "standing in a line" does refer to waiting for charity or some other perhaps demeaning thing or that the person will lose everything and be forced there, etc. So, I think that works along with that song. Interestingly, many many people think La Nicks wrote SB as a plea to LB to save her from marrying Robin. When that theory is explained, it makes sense - that is the thing about La Nicks' songs, they can be applied to so many things. I like that
On edit and in reference to your statement "They're all in the song cuz she said so" - well why would she lie? Again, in Landslide, it is consistent that it is about her dad, the financial option they offered, and LB's leaving her to go on the road, and the decision she was forced to make. Those things go hand and hand to me - so I take her at her word - which many are IMO inexplicably loathe to do.

I always agree with your posts. I hardly ever feel the need to reply but in this case I agree with everything here except, you've got the wrong guy pegged. Hate to say it but you're wrong for ONCE, I think. :laugh:Oh, well, even Homer nodded.
But seriously, glitter, what I was trying to say is that it's not "right" or "wrong" -- it's like the Devil citing Scripture for his purpose. For practically any Stevie Nicks song, you could dig back through interviews & articles & comments made onstage & find some sort of support for any supposition you want to make. Just because somebody writes a song doesn't mean that person remembers all the details that were put into it at a time when that person was in a different frame of mind. I think Stevie often sounds a little confused about her own songs in interviews, anyway. I have often thought that. Talking with Jim Ladd or other guys in the old days, she used to start talking about what she was doing while she was writing the song instead of what the song "meant" -- like with "Stand Back," the story she always tells is that she was driving along with Kim somewhere & they're listening to "Little Red Corvette" on the radio. Well, is THAT what the song is about?? That's just the circumstance she was in, the activity she was engaged in, when the song was being created (or was being thought about). Remember her story about "Dreams"? She was sitting in Sly Stone's sunken lounge with its dark, gaudy colors up at the Record Plant when she put that song together. But the song isn't about Sly Stone, Stevie! Or maybe it is . . . who the hell knows?
So all these songs are really about what the listeners see & hear in them. When you hear "Beauty," you obviously hear a tale of love between Stevie & ... Lindsey, I guess? I hear a song about Stevie & Mick & I see all those dozens of photos throughout the years -- the ones that used to appear in magazines like Hit Parader -- of the two of them, arms around each other, at some function or other, the top of Stevie's head going up to Mick's rib cage.
Somebody was wondering in another thread just how old the stories about their affair were, & people said it predated Mick's book in 1990, which is true. I remember a little photo of Stevie & Mick -- it could have been anything, like one of those awards ceremonies -- appearing in a trashy rock magazine with a caption: something about Stevie & Mick having recently "split up." I was a little fan back then (around 1980) & I didn't know much of the scoop, so I thought it was just a goofy caption that didn't really mean anything, or a mistake for Stevie & Lindsey splitting up, or the band split up, or something. And there were occasional stories that would surface through the years about Stevie & Mick, & the stories were pretty widely known among the rabids, especially at times when Stevie & Mick were hanging out together a lot, like 1986 (Mick followed her around in California to all her shows & played conga drums next to Bobbye Hall).

But what does that say about a songwriter if thirty years' worth of songs are about the same subject? Is that even possible ... in anybody's case? Wouldn't that be a sign of some sort of mental problem? an obsession, at the very least.
Doesn't it make more sense to assume, if you think Stevie Nicks is a really great poet, blah blah blah, that she has written about dozens of different experiences & people over the decades, & brought her little measure of wisdom (blah blah blah) to many of the little cracks & crevices, the nooks & crannies of experience?
How great can a poet be -- any poet -- who has nothing to write about for 30 years except a single love affair & the fallout from it? Does Stevie live in a shoebox?

I agree, every song changes for every listener, and in my opinion, even if a song seems written about a specific subject, can be about something totally different at the same time, covered by a safer symbol. Then artists (at least those I like) rewrite their songs many times through their performances, during the years, according to what they're living, the way they've changed, their new inspiration, etc. A work of art can never be completed, I think, it's visible only a small part of it.
By the way, since I love to speculate about Stevie songs too :D I think BATB is about Stevie-Mick relationship (not only the intimate side, but also their friendship, their roles in FM, their being easily labeled by media and fans) and about the person she felt to be at the time.

I find that kind of heatbreaking that she can't move on.
But the point I think people are missing here is she doesn't..err...didn't... move on for arts sake. She draws on the relationship that never had any closure.

I personally believe she just plays to fans on this, her most popular songs were written about Lindsey. You do have a point though, I remember him saying in Destiny Rules that he cannot believe they are still dealing with the same subject matter. If all of these songs are about Lindsey and Mick... I find that kind of heatbreaking that she can't move on.
Well, I do not think she has written anything about Mick since before Tusk as they recorded, I think, B&B for Tusk in a bluesy demo. As for LB, she will never get through that and he will not either as far as the songwriting goes.

Oh, well, even Homer nodded.
I agree with so much here, as usual. I think we agree a lot because we remember things as they were playing out and not from trying to piece together quotes left from back in the day. I know what I remember but it takes too much time to run around trying to dig up old articles we read 25 years ago before a few of these things were archived on the Internet. Hardly any of the rock press is archived and I didn't save all the old mags like some people did. I never envisioned myself needing to look up quotes someday.
ITA, hunting down quotes and articles will never result in much of a clear view. I also agree about Stevie having confusion on her own songs, but I disagree on her revelations about her writing process. It plays to her need to shade her honest feelings and emotions if she talks about process and not meaning. People run with her explanations of her songs and they often run the wrong way, imo, but so many people are buying into Stevie's confessional poetry style of writing because they think they understand her songs so much when she says she writes from her journals and writes the truth. Songs are personal to everyone and I don't really care what she was meaning to herself in her lyrics unless I hear her say one thing about a song then contradict that statement in another interview or within the lyrics of the very song she spoke about. I find that annoying and she does it all the time. I don't think it's because she wants to mislead people. I think it's for another reason. I think she should not talk about the meanings or inspirations of her songs if she wants to be ambiguos on the meanings. Nobody but she knows what she thought about 100% of the time while penning a poem. Like you said, I'm not sure she always knows either.

How great can a poet be -- any poet -- who has nothing to write about for 30 years except a single love affair & the fallout from it? Does Stevie live in a shoebox?
I don't know, quite a few people consider Petrarch a great poet, despite the fact he wrote/revised sonnets about his Laura for, oh, 40 years or so.

I might be wrong, but I've always sensed that some fans get defensive about Stevie's lyrics if discussions lead to a conclusion she wrote about one aspect of her inner turmoil too much. Does that change something about being the poet that she is? Is she not as special or not as insightful? In the same situation would we think that about Bob Dylan? :D

LOL - maybe some are ABOUT Bob Dylan
I think for La Nicks, the time in her life and what was going on represents a key. For example, take Blue Denim in which she sings about LB:
I saw him the other day
I saw him again...yesterday
I wonder if I'll ever see him again
He reminded me of Blue Denim
CHORUS:
Blue-gray eyes...they change with the color...
Change with the sun...they run with the sight
They change with the wind...but they're always bright
Bright eyes...Blue Denim
Bright eyes...Blue Denim
I knew him another way
I knew him another day
In some ways he'd forgotten me
In many ways he got to me
I turned away so he couldn't see
I turned away...it could never be
I never thought he could walk away
But I lost him again...yesterday
REPEAT CHORUS
Understanding me...understanding you
Is not an easy thing to do
Understanding me...and understanding you
Is not an easy thing to do
And I will never forget...
The last time I saw you
Like a photograph...so rare
Like a painting
No I will never forget...
The last time I saw you
Never to be...not you...not me
No...no...
REPEAT CHORUS
So I'm going away for a little while
To remember how to feel
And if I find the answer...
I promise you...I'll come back and get you
I'll come back and get you
I'll come back and get you
________________________________________________________
Here, she is almost longing to see LB again and is almost blaming herself here. This probably was written after the inaug. or around that time.
Then, FF to 98 or so when we get FFG, which says (excluding the telling omitted lyrics):
I choose to be his confidant
And to keep him from the fire
I choose to be quietly discreet
If that is his desire
I touch with gossamer wings
To be quiet around you
There is so much going on
You could easily
Chorus:
Wake up with a stranger
It's not something you plan
One night in a world of pain
And you finally understand
Not all the king's horses, not all the king's men
Could put it back together
You say you wouldn't do this for very long
The applause from it all is so defining
Well it bounces off the wall at you
When the miracle is happening
High priestess...she's the keeper of the peace in this
Twice as much, intensified
What people will do
To get...this...high
(Chorus)
And now alone in my room
As it all begins again
Was I so wrong
Why am I always so intense
In this same place I sit
The same place as before
Well I came all the way here
Just to watch you walk out that door
I didn't ask when you shook your head
I always accepted what you said
As the truth and the truth only
Well it's not enough that you depend on me
And it's not enough that you say you love me
It's not enough to just save face
Because sometimes
You just fall from grace
Sometimes
You just fall from grace
Maybe I am calmer now
Maybe things are fine
Maybe I made the whole thing up
Maybe it isn't a lie
Maybe the reason I say these things
Is to bring you back alive
Maybe I fought this long and this hard
Just to make sure you survive
Just to make sure you survive

This IMO is far from the longing and regretting sense in BD - this is anger IMO and, perhaps, a feeling of betrayal. What caused the anger and the feelings of betrayal or a let down of an expectation are all speculation, but the song most def. conveys them.
Thus, I think the timing of the songs and what was goining on is very telling

I don't think it's fair to bring up Petrarch as a reply to what I said. I'm suggesting that to believe Stevie wrote about nothing but Lindsey all her life is to put her in a shoebox & even to limit her artistry in a way -- I don't mean that artists don't write about the same person or event or experience throughout their lives. Petrarch didn't write only about the elusive Laura throughout his life. Bergman hasn't made films only about the spider god his whole career (although he's made a good deal of films on this theme). Stevie allegedly has had numerous loves & look at all the experiences she's had: playing for presidents, getting junked, traveling, hanging with the jet-set, having millions of worshippers, making millions of dollars, etc. I think her songs reflect all of that, not just Lindsey Buckingham.
If you disagree, fine. We don't have to be enemies because of that. Won't you grant me my beliefs, my fictions, too?

Hypothetical question...what if you turned your TV on come Monday afternoon and just say flipped to ABC. Oprah's on (yea yea...she sucks..I'd flip too..BUT..) and Stevie and Lindsey are sitting on her plush white couch as her guests. How true. I can go with this. Still, why can't people point out the songs LB is likely related to without it seeming such a crime? It doesn't mean all her songs are about him even if a large percentage might be. Why do people get so bent out of shape if it could be true she wrote alot about her turmoil over that relationship? Again, does that make her less of a prophet, poet, or is she just a priestess of nothing?

I don't think you'd get any argument there. I know of no one who believes 100% of Stevie's work to be about Lindsey. So we all agree after all. Happy dance!
If you disagree, fine. We don't have to be enemies because of that. Won't you grant me my beliefs, my fictions, too?
When did this become about me squelching your beliefs and acting as your enemy? My reply was one sentence which simply brought up an example of a great poet who spent a good part of his life writing about a love affair and its fallout. I found it contextually relevant because Petrarch's love sonnets were indeed all about one relationship. I did not realize you were confining your argument to debunking the beliefs of a hypothetical group consisting of people who see Lindsey in songs about forgotten chimpanzees and bombs in the desert.
So, to set the record straight, I have no wish to be your enemy. I treat you no differently than I would treat anyone else who made that statement. I always thought you were one who enjoyed a good debate, and I'm frankly puzzled as to what you seem to feel I am attacking you when I cast no personal aspersions. I simply stated a fact. You can contest its applicability but to say I am not granting you your beliefs because I dared to bring up a possible weakness in your argument? Surprising.
Unless this is about something else? I can think of only one time when I haven't "allowed" you a fiction and, as you recall, that was a different issue entirely.
