LiquidBlue5000 texted me the set list as it happened...
Thanks to all who joined me in experiencing the "silent" concert, and major props to Liquid for taking the time to do this. :D

Intro - Bootylicious
Dreams intro (not sure what he means by this???)
Enchanted
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Outside the Rain/
Dreams
Rhiannon
Sorcerer
Stand Back
Landslide
Gold Dust Woman
If Anyone Falls
Fall From Grace
How Still My Love
Edge of Seventeen
I Need to Know
Beauty and the Beast

A couple other details from Liquid:
"Beauty and the Beast" was amazing... she sounded as good on it as she did on "Beautiful Child" on the SYW tour.
People *were* allowed up to the stage for "Edge."
There wasn't much video, though he did mention that the "If Anyone Falls" vid was played in the background.
Her voice got better as she went.
She didn't change her outfit as much as she has at other recent shows.

Enchanted -

Stop Draggin' My Heart Around - can't sing it anymore as evidence on TISL - drop it

Outside the Rain - played to death and not a hit - drop it - I mean doesn't she get that this song could easily be replaced with something she has never played before.

Dreams - I get why - but am still tired of it.

I mean with SB, Rhiannon, and GDW - we are not talking that many more songs.

Oh Well - so much for a great opportunity

. . .

Im glad to see Outside the Rain making its return.

I am just tired of it. I like the song though. I just thought she would listen to Waddy and go for a schocker like Talk to Me or I Can't Wait. I mean the same set over and over again and OTR is not a hit. No one really knows it other than the harder core fans. So, why not put something else in its place. But, I guess she chose differently and it is her show

I was just hoping for a knock it out of the ballpark opening. Yet, the same old same old. I mean she is playing it pretty smart because though we are all tired of the hits, many more than us go to see them. I just HOPE she took SDMHA out of a bass range vocal for her.

I mean did she even rehearse this? I cannot believe she would have to other than to get used to the stage, which would require like two rehearsals. Maybe the videos added some complication to the rehearsals, but it is not like adding a vocal. So, it took her three months to learn at most like five new songs ALL of which she probably has sung before.

I think she sounded mostly bad on that tour and sometimes incoherent save for the US festival (most of it) and all of the SNL and Solid Gold performances, where she was spot on to the point of giving me chills. I mean if she could do IAF, she could do BD. The vocals are not that diff. except that BD requires more discipline and concentration.

LOL - I am all for racial profiling because who was the last white or AA guy that hijacked a plane - ever  But, I travel a bunch and am just appalled when then frisk the 75 year old lady who has the shoulder pad safety pinned to to her bra to replace the breast she lost to cancer and then they make her go to the bathroom and take it off and give them the safety pins. That woman was my mother - it happened to her. That is just FU&*D up. But, anyone who travels a bunch knows that TSA is waaaayyyyyy underfunded and also the media reported that despite all the new crap, we are no safer than before.

My whole beef with this set list is the comfort zone is not broken. I fully expect the hits to be there and realize there are like 12 of them. But, OTR and FFG are most def. NOT hits and I think she could have spiced up the show by replacing them with new songs or even Nightbird - I mean LORI is there for heavan's sake. Yet, she plays it safe. That to me equals laziness and an unwillingness to put in the practice it takes to do a BD, WH, Sable on Blonde, etc. I mean why BC for SYW and no totally new song for this set when she had the time to practice them, esp. when she could snore out 12 of the hits.

And - I'll even give it to her that she was mostly referring to the stage, visuals, and clothes. But, she also indicated she was hauling out old chestnuts, which she did in three instances. AND - she went on about Talk to Me, one of her biggest hits, being her favorite videos and we get OTR, which was not a hit and has no video, because she can sing it in her sleep  Same for INTK - I mean that is not even her song much less a hit for anyone including Tom Petty  I just with she had put TTM and ROF in the set and cut OTR and INTK or FFG. I can't say I'm too surprised by this setlist. She didn't do anything brand new, true, but there were a few "forgotten" tunes in there -- namely "How Still My Love," "Beauty" and "If Anyone Falls." And it's cool that she did a couple of songs from TISL ("Sorcerer" and "Grace"), even though most of the crowd probably wouldn't recognize them.
If I had gone, would I have been crushed? Probably not... especially if she performed with lots of energy.
On the other hand, am I crushed that I *didn't* go? Nope. :)

my hopes were raised by all the pre-show buzz, and by her saying it would be show like the fans had never seen before.
:p

Maybe it was a show that her fans had never seen. You are forgetting the whole stage setup the film footage or vids played... I'm sure it "looked" better then what the setlist might make you believe it was. At least I hope so.

I'm going to the show on Friday, and I'm totally looking forward to "seeing" it, which I'm sure will be the bigger experience. I can't believe you people actually thought she would stray from what she normally does in a concert set  Sure there are a few surprises, and that's great. The ones doing all the complaining I think are the bigger suckers rather then thinking the ones that spent the money to see the show are.

I get where your coming from , but she herself pumped us up. Did you hear how excited she sounded on the Ladd interview. She also stated that Highwayman and talk to me could be done, that def got everyone going. I just don't think its MY fault for MY dissappointment.

Well, as someone who has never had the opportunity to see a Stevie solo show in person, I'd be thrilled with that setlist.

For others... I guess familiarity does breed contempt.

Shut up Stew :p :p :p :p

Seriously, I am happy for the set list changes. I just wanted more, esp. when she added OTR back in, which makes no sense to me seeing as how TTM or ROF could have been in there.

In the end, I have never put on a show like this, so maybe I should just shut up

Yes, you're right. And I hope you ARE right. I also remembered her quote wrong - she said it would be like nothing she'd ever done. And I'm sure it was.

And I think Johnny Stew is right - familiarity has bred a bit of ... well... I'm not sure it's contempt. Really, I haven't seen contempt or anger here tonight. At least it's not at ALL what I'm feeling. I can't speak for the others. But I was SO excited by the fact that she might do new stuff - or rather, stuff she hasn't done live before. I knew i wasn't going. I had accepted it. I was concentrating on everyone else getting the show of their lives. And I really hope no one has any regrets.

She does love TISL, and it is my favorite record too, but again, she's aiming to please everyone at these Vegas shows, including the comped gambler a-holes. Unfortunatley, most of them probably don't know too much about TISL. :distress: Stevie goes with what she's comfortable with, and whatever that is I'm comfortable with it too. Who wants to see her all nervous up on stage worrying about crowd reaction??

Thanks to Blink for posting the set list. As SOON as you can find out if they let people up to the stage during Edge, please post! :D

I agree and I think that effect is what La Nicks was mostly talking about when she went on about this show being different than any other. And she did change the set list - so at least there is that. I was just hoping for more a la the Enchanted Tour.

OK, a couple other details from Liquid:
"Beauty and the Beast" was amazing... she sounded as good on it as she did on "Beautiful Child" on the SYW tour.
People *were* allowed up to the stage for "Edge."
There wasn't much video, though he did mention that the "If Anyone Falls" vid was played in the background.
Her voice got better as she went.
She didn't change her outfit as much as she has at other recent shows.
He recorded the whole show!

I'm not exactly 'complaining', because she did pull out some songs she hasn't done in awhile, that I like (HSML, BATB, IAF). I think most of us were just really hoping for songs mentioned in various interviews too, (Talk To Me & The Highwayman), and hoping that she might pull off something she'd never done live before, like she did with Beautiful Child during the SYW tour.

esp. fresh on the heels of the warm reception of BC, which was a shocker and a half - and she gushed on and on about how great it was to do it - yet she opts for OTR, Enchanted, INTK, etc. all of which could be replaced with no fan (hard or soft core) chagrain

The reason these songs became such outstanding songs in the set because she tried them out and the crowd loved them. You can't have songs people grow to love if you don't play them.

I fail to see why you are so caustic at people expressing dismay and a great big ole WTF about the songs she alluded to playing like SOTM, Highwayman, TTM, and more - but in the end did not. I think the gipes are legitimate and in no way merely being spoiled as you suggest. I also think had people known she would play this effort so conservatively instead of adding the songs she talked about adding, many would have opted not to go, but are now stuck with plane tickets, hotel rooms, etc. After all, she is the one who sold this show a certain way and has mostly failed to deliver that - though I am happy that she added Beauty and the Beast, How Still My Love, and If Anyone Falls and I really hope she does not drop one of them as she historically has done with "new" stuff. I mean she is not even from what I have read hauling out the outfits or utilizing the screens in any effective manner. In the end, I think she either vocally could not deliver the new stuff or once she got into it, she got scared and went back to OTR, INTK, FFG, Enchanted, etc. - all of which are not hits but she can sing them in her sleep, so to speak, because she has done them so many times. In the end, it is her show and she can do what she wants. I do not begrudge her that. I do, however, wish she would think twice about giving so much hype and then failing to see that to its full fruition. I also think what a momumental show this could have been if she had just been daring in the slightest.

I still like her though despite my disappointment in the setlist.

I haven't had a chance to read this entire thread, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating anyone's sentiments. But this setlist has made me feel alot better about not being able to go to Vegas. I have been lucky enugh to see Stevie solo 3 times, and this setlist is pretty much like what I've seen before (except for BATB- which breaks my heart). I think we should just be grateful that she is continuing to do shows, I guess. She fell back on what was comfortable, and even though it may have been somewhat disappointing, at least she's THERE.

I agree with Jason and IMO, I think you don't know or understand the people or the culture of the Ledge to realize this is quite ordinary. I think its you, Jamie, who have a lot of nerve to say the people who are disappointed in the setlist are jealous because they're not going. Some of the people in this thread have tickets and big money spent for other nights this week....not that it makes a big difference. Even if one or some of them were jealous, it doesn't change the fact that the setlist is a disappointment to them. You can be slightly jealous or envious of other fans being able to make the trip without losing your perspective about a boring tired setlist. The fans on the Ledge are capable of being disappointed without being jealous and since you arrived here from Mick's board about a week ago, maybe you should realize that this board is different. Fans are allowed to complain without being called out and told off like you did in your post. I know that's the culture you're used to at Mick's site, it's just a shame you and the members of your site stood up for the wrong thing and having fun was more important to you and the rest of your group, than hundreds of fans being rippped off and banned from a message board for having a different opinion. The ledge is not some small group of sheep who have almost identical thoughts about everything.

Some of the spoiled people you're referring to have been to very few shows (some have never been to a Stevie solo show) so I don't even understand what you think they're spoiled about? Maybe you need to chill or realize the Ledge is not the warm fuzzy place you're used to calling home. It's been pointed out, a lot of the expectations for this show were because of Stevie's own comments about what this show was going to be like. Many fans expected her to do some of the things she talked about, it will interesting to hear how much video footage was used and how much clothes/hats etc she actually did end up pulling out of the vaults and trunks. She's also performing in a place where Celine Dion and Elton John put on spectacular shows that are like "nothing they've ever done" so the expectations were high and legitimate based on the venue and Stevie's own comments in several interviews.

Complaining about setlists is normal in almost every fan community. You can still be a good or great fan and complain...a concept the members of Mick's board never fully understood. I belong to other fan sites and some have artists who mix it up 100X more than Stevie and FM and they complain and complain about the setlists. Oooohhhh....look at that, the people at Mick's site seem unhappy and disappointed about the setlist. Maybe you can go back there and tell them off and call them jealous and spoiled, after all they deserve the same treatment as the fans on this site.

Someone over on the BN board posted that she had her LEG WARMERS on!!!

Not that's worth the price of admission!

Seriously though, I would have loved to hear "Outside the Rain," "If Anyone Falls," and "How Still My Love." She dropped those from her setlist before my time as a fan.

Are the setlists going to stay the same each night? If so, why bother going to multiple shows?

And how about all the theatrics that were promised? Anyone hear anything yet?

JazmenFlowers
05-11-2005, 09:18 AM
True - but this set list so far is just laziness on her part. I mean open with Wild Heart or some SHOCKER. I know that means she has to rehearse, but she is getting a FORTUNE in ticket prices to put forth this lame also ran set list. GROWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL  AND - she is a singer DAMNIT - sing - practice - live a little - RANT RANT RANT

I'm torn because in a way I agree with strandinthewind and in a way I can understand Stevie's decisions. I didn't really expect to see a whole lot of "new" things here, but I was hoping for something totally out of ordinary that would be something for everyone to say "damn, remember Vegas"...not just that concert I forked out $2000 to see what I saw 2 years ago...it was supposed to be special. At any rate, I'm still excited...I don't know how I feel about it...:)

although I have to say, HSML and B&TB are 2 of my favorites and I am very excited to see what she does with them (assuming they aren't dropped)
