I'm sure he's to blame for the Frankenboks, too.

Sure, don't you remember her comments when the band saw those boots? I'm sure Lindsey meant to get an even more sedate :::read uglier::: pair of the Reeboks from the TISL tour...and this time, Stevie...don't stay up late at night with your Bedazzler putting little rhinestones allover the toes!

Who knew Lindsey was also the wardrobe consultant for the TISL tour and the reason behind the ONE black dress

I'm sure there's a few great song parodies in this but as I'm reading it I keep thinking back to the Destiny Rules documentary and what the supposed confrontation over her stage attire must have been like...

Lindsey "Calvin" Buckingham: Umm...Stevie, do you think you can tone down your clothing on the upcoming tour...you know leave off a few rhinestones and not wear those fancy Reeboks with the rhinestones?

Stevie "CoCo" Nicks: Would you say that to Cher? That's the way I dress...its the Fashion Icon that I am!

Lindsey "Calvin" Buckingham: But Stevie, if you wear all your fancy stage clothes all the attention will be on you and no one will even know I'm there. I couldn't let it go and not say anything, you understand.

Stevie CoCo Nicks: I wear the clothes I do because I am a Fashion Icon and I can't change that, even for you.

Note to Stevie: More sedate can still be fabulous and elegant, it doesn't mean buying the Grandma blouse from the Macy's Clubhouse Collection for a rock tour.

I also wondered if he said this to her 25 yrs ago and since she's going to do the complete opposite now, she's bringing it up that somehow it's his fault. It just doesn't seem like the kind of thing he'd say to her today and that he would care. I was LOL because I'm sure he viewed the 6 sequined shawls (including that sedate gold number for GDW) and the long sequin Gypsy coat as just what he wanted when he asked her to be more casual. Stevie, Stevie, Stevie. :)

Note to anyone offended about my comment because of Stevie's hip and the ugly Frankenboks and Reeboks. I understand she can't wear her old boots and we all want her to be comfortable. That being said, girlfriend could have had Reebok, Nike or any famous shoe designer make her a fabulous pair of comfortable sneaker like platformy 'low rise' boots.....and they would have looked 1000X better than the Frankenboks she got at her local mall.

Wondering what she'll wear on her feet for the fabulous Las Vegas show?

PS: thanks to Daniel and Michael for all the work getting this recorded and posted!

"Of course I wrote that poem about Lindsey." -- on 'Fall from Grace'

WOW..I know thousands of us fans were totally thrown off when Stevie threw out that red herring about FFG being about FM and the Dance tour. So many of us were thinking it was about John, she's such a sly fox

Did I evah!!! And I agree, it's a masterpiece.

And great idea, David, about posting all the Jim Ladd interviews from through the years. I only have two (incl. last night's); I guess I've probably read transcriptions of others, but I'd love to hear them all.

I just listened to the one for the Wild Heart the other night and it's a favorite. Someone plays guitar while she, Sharon and Lori do Are You Mine. Sandy Stewart is in it too.
The Rock A Little one is a bit sad because she's slurring her words. :sorry:

I thought her SYW dress was really beautiful. I loved it! And she only wore it for the first six songs or so and then she took off the sweater and it was a really, really low cut dress (right before Rhiannon). I don't know, I never found any faults with her clothes on the SYW tour. And if the Reebox meant we got the fabulous twirling and dancing during Standback then I think it was a pretty good trade off.

Her hair is another story! I didn't like it when she cut her hair on the Summer 2004 leg of the tour and went with the bangs. I hate bangs on most people! I liked her hair straight and bang-less!

Anyone know if the interviews are up for download anywhere? I've heard Wild Heart but I don't believe i've heard the RAL interview.

Jim Ladd: "If there was a song, one song I had to pick to describe the feeling, I would think of what it's like to watch you on stage- in other words- if I were to close my eyes and turn this song up really loud- it's not the subject of the song- but, I'd get that feeling of Stevie "in the zone", ya know- I don't know if there are women shamans, like there are men shamans- but this is the one for me, and it's 'Sisters of the Moon'... um this would be it's like a case of performance ecstacy, rather than, you know you're at- to me - you're in that place where artists want to go- is that true, or not?"

Stevie: "That's absolutely true. That's absolutely true. 'Sisters of the Moon' definitely takes even me to that other place and, uh. I'm very proud of that song. We- I haven't done that song live in a long time. That's another song- who knows- that could go into this next several mini-months of touring that it seems I'm gonna be doing- that's another one that I might pull outta the vaults. Because I love doing that song, because that is- it's a real performance song."

Well... ****ing-A YEAH!! She ain't gonna do "Sisters", but it's nice to know her true feelings about that song. "Storms", too. Maybe her talk with Jim Ladd (doesn't he kick ****ing ass!!!) about these two songs will actually get her to perform them. I hope!!!

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I can't picture SOTM without Lindsey's guitar, John's bass and Lindsey's guitar...same goes for Storms. I'd rather she waited to pull out those two for the next FM tour. But I definitely would LOOOOVE to hear them. Just not without the boys.

I don't think the band is that important on Storms but certainly Sisters of the Moon requires a really great, talented band.

Hang on a mo..we can't blame Stevies wardrobe on Lindsey, and she didn't actually come out and say it was his fault.Good heavens she's a big girl and can decide for herself, I'm sure he didn't personally pick this wee cardy thing with pearl buttons (which she did say was still "fabulous")
I think the "Mr B" reference is rather sweet..to think after all these years, she considers his opinion to be important enough to act on..of course she was glad to do it because she wants him to be happy( and lets face it if your other half is happy, then you are too and doing something they ask, is not a problem).I too am of the opinion, he thought maybe the black dress was too much and wanted it to be a little more "casual", as in not so formal perhaps. For those Ledgies going to Vegas, the flamboyant show sounds GREAT!

I distinctly remember being blasted when FFG was discussed around here during TISL...I was told in no uncertain terms that it was NOT about Lindsey, it was about all the members of FM and that the specific line Stevie refers to about "walking out the door" was about Christine leaving the band!

I still wonder if FFG is entirely about Lindsey even though she says that she wrote the poem about him because she totally contradicts herself with the previous quote where she says "And I came all this way just watch you walk out that door. I had forgotten....and I know what that is about, that's a poem from a couple years before and ahh it's pretty intense and I wonder if people that it's written about ever listen to it and go 'oh.'..(Jim: "Or the person") ....or the person...exactly."

So, then later when she actually admits that she wrote the poem about Lindsey she says that "Lindsey knows it's about him." So why would she wonder if the "people" (her words) ever go "ah" about it? She said that Lindsey doesn't care that she wrote it about him so I'm assuming they discussed the song. So why would she wonder since she *knows* how Lindsey feels about it unless it included other people for her to wonder about??? Or another possible explanation is that she may be puffing-up her story a bit by saying that Lindsey knows its about him and that he doesn't care.

I dunno, she said it was written around the time period of The Dance and I know they had said not all wounds were healed on that tour, so maybe she was trying to make up with him on something and he wasn't cooperating, you know...

And now alone in my room
As it all begins again
Was I so wrong
Why am I always so intense
In this same place I sit
The same place as before
Well I came all the way here
Just to watch you walk out that door

Wasn't Touched by an Angel written around the same time? In that song she talks about the pain being apparent. It's interesting if you put the two songs together. Anyway, I can't see STevie and Lindsey sitting down and talking about her songs in much more detail than "hey, this song is about you..." I can hear Lindsey just kinda grunting in response. Recall the Destiny Rules segment when they're sitting in chairs facing each other and getting into it. Reminded me of a person who, if you try to talk to them about anything with any depth, if it's negative and about them, they kind of close off.

On another note  , I love it when she's talking about the Airy Fairy thing and how she and Waddy responded at a rehearsal "we're not nice, we're rockers, we didn't come here to be nice..." "I like my angst-ridden rock and roll miserablness."

Now who knew La Nicks was "not very nice" and "angst-ridden" ?!?!

HAR HAR!! :D

And when she says about the Vegas show "start planning your outfit now..." - she obviously knows what some of we women go thru before a concert. Hhmmm... since she emails do you suppose she also reads a thread or two? LOL!!!

I do think the entire song is about him...I always have. Just because Lindsey knows FFG is about him does not mean they sat down and discussed specific lines. When she said that on the JL interview..."I wonder if the person I wrote this about knows"...I took it to mean, she wonders if he remembers that event or does he understand what she was talking about. Did he "get it". It also sounded like she was more or less thinking out loud. Listening to the song sort of took her back to that time and when she heard that one line, it was like she thought "wow..I wonder if Lindsey ever really "heard" (understood) that part.
I agree Laura...FFG definately sounds interesting next to Touched by an Angel. Same with EFO, Bombay Sapphires and My Heart. I do not think that they are but they could be from one long poem. The flow, circumstances and extreme in emotions sound very similar in all four.

WHY do the stupid people always get through on the phone?

Sheebus. They should have had a Ledgie line. LOL

Yeah, I mean if these people had read the Ledge they would not have to ask these stupid questions.

I thought the one about Italy was OK, however.

I wish that one of us did get though to ask a question. I was sound asleep when this interview was live anyway so I did not know.

I can't believe that nobody asked about the Don Henley tour rumour but then Stevie would have mostly likely said that she can't say until it had been confirmed. By the way I have heard from 2 different sources that it has.

As far as I'm concerned Touched By An Angel is about someone with a terminal illness, and his last days with his family before he goes up to heaven. Hence the line "I have come to make you better I have come to take you away".

I don't really see how FFG is linked to Touched By an Angel.

I was just curious...for those of you who have been around for awhile...did Jim usally have a good rapport with most of the artists he interviewed? I know he and Tom Petty are pretty good friends, but I've never heard him interview anyone else and was wondering if he praises any other artists like he does with Stevie? You can tell that he really admires her. I wonder if he reads message boards? Because he is the only interviewer I've ever heard ask questions that we fans often ask.

I can absolutely see Lindsey saying something like that. I do wonder if he meant it in more of a casual way than she took it. However, remember 30 years ago, he admitted to being jealous of her prancing around sexily onstage..he proclaimed "she was my woman". So evidently this is not something that is new..she probably has been hearing about "not stealing the stage through sexy clothes" for decades.

I know he and Tom Petty are pretty good friends, but I've never heard him interview anyone else and was wondering if he praises any other artists like he does with Stevie?Yes, he loves a lot of rockers, particularly from the old days. I remember when Rick Springfield beat out Springsteen for a Grammy, & Ladd went on the air & just blew up.
You can tell that he really admires her. I wonder if he reads message boards? Because he is the only interviewer I've ever heard ask questions that we fans often ask.Ladd's conversations with Stevie are fun to listen to because he -- unlike virtually all the other DJs past & present -- knows her catalog. He actually listens to her albums, unlike those phonies who talked to her during "Shangri-La" & pretended to gush over the album. They probably heard it run through once, if at all. They try to sound really in-the-know about Stevie by asking her in a fake-conspiratorial tone, "So ... back when you & Lindsey were a duo, did you ever think you'd be this huge star?"

Like, wow ... somebody prepped the DJ that Lindsey & Stevie did some music before joining Mac! Like, how cool is that?!

Actually, to be fair, several of the DJs from the old days at KMET & later KLOS -- people like Bob Coburn & Mary Turner -- also knew Mac's music & loved them.

Sort of like how Jay Leno and Ellen Degeneres pretend like they have read everyone's books and listened to everyone's records? It is impossible because they have a new guest every single day so you can't really blame them.

I love Miss Stevie and if I interviewed her, I'd be nervous for sure, but that dude was yucky to listen to. If I had to interview Lindsey, I'd be MEGA-nervous, but I wouldn't act like that. I'm glad this guy's a real fan though, just wish he'd tone it down.

Jay Leno...when Lindsey was on the show and did Don't Look Down, Jay came over to him afterwards and goes "Lindsey Buckingham. Great, thanks." in this tone of voice like "Whatever." Ugh.

I think Ellen does listen to people's stuff, because when I watch her show, she seems to know the words to lots of songs. Although, that may be just for the music Tony plays. LOL

I think when Stevie said "people" she may have been referring to Lindsey and Kristen. All these songs we're talking about (FFG, TD, EFO, the TISL tracks) were all written around the same period of The Dance. Like Kelly suggested, I wouldn't be surprised either if some of them were part of the same poem. And what happened with Lindsey and Stevie at that time was ended because of Kristen and the baby. All those songs listened to together tell that story, IMO.

He was making my gag reflex go nutsos. LOL Why not say, "Here is the talented and beautiful Stevie Nicks." and leave it at that, but the entire interview, he was slobbering all over her and her music. Yuck. Oh, and PLEASE get some friggin' Ledgies on the phone to ask her REAL questions.

She was VERY forthcoming with info though, so yay to that!! I'm not being ungrateful, he just creeped me out. LOL

What "real" questions would you ask? Just curious.

This is the post by Kelly I was talking about.

I've also never bought that whole shtick about Touched by an Angel being about someone dying of AIDS. I know she said it inspired the line about an angel taking you to a better place, but man, that song has the reunion of the five of them written all over it:

In that very moment, everyone was silent
And everyone was friendly
For the first time in years
Everyone was smiling
Though their pain was apparent
And the floor was wet and slippery
With the tracks of their tears

And this next part, I think, is her parting thought about Lindsey after they got together and recorded for the first time. It felt good again, and it was sort of a feeling that she hoped he was happy, and that he would be happy.

But in my heart, I leave
Great expectations
That you will find the answers
To your questions
And that life will once more
Be a celebration
And that you will be touched by an angel
And that you will be touched by an angel
And that you will be touched by an angel

I see no one dying in any of it.

I always interpreted that verse to mean that estranged friends and family members reunited over their loved one dying of AIDS after not having spoken for whatever reason in years. They're trying to hold back the pain they feel over this person dying by covering it up with the facade of friendliness and joy to see them, but they're dying inside over seeing this person in so much agony and they're also wondering why it took such a tragedy to bring them together; they regret the time they wasted because now they realize that there isn't any more time left.

And this next part, I think, is her parting thought about Lindsey after they got together and recorded for the first time. It felt good again, and it was sort of a feeling that she hoped he was happy, and that he would be happy.

I certainly do. I always took this part to mean that she's hoping that as this person's soul passes to Heaven, their time in the afterlife is once again a celebration of life itself and that the agony they went through is finally over.

She may sing about Lindsey far too much for me, but this is one song that I don't think has anything to do with him or Fleetwood Mac. It's one of her hidden gems and one of few songs that make me cry like a baby.

Susie

The two I heard were long winded and then one said "When are you coming back to LA with FM?"

I would have asked her about another album or will any new songs be on her new GH album. Will they re-release all her solos with extra stuff? Who would she like to duet with that she hasn't already? There are LOADS of great questions to ask her, instead of spending 20 minutes gushing and going "Oh, when are you coming back to ____?

Interesting point of view! So which DJs do you prefer interviewing Stevie?
I can't say that I can differentiate one DJ from the next....most ask the same questions over and over anyway...but I couldn't stand how gross he was being, especially in the first few minutes of introducing her. It was cringe-worthy how much he was drooling over her, and he carried on waaaaaay to long.

That's what DJ's do. They are paid to talk. I would be curious who are some of the DJs you think do a good job interviewing people. Jim Ladd is very high on many rock journalists lists for good interviews and is considered one of the best DJs by many artists. His Stevie interviews have always been great because she seems so relaxed, this is perhaps because she can tell he is a true listener (I don't want to say fan although I don't think it would be out of line).

And gross? elaborate please. If you are just referencing him commenting positively on her appearance: Stevie was one of the biggest sex symbols of the 70s. Her appearance is always going to be part of her music.

I think she would make a great DJ. I love her speaking voice. It is very warm...

On another note, I could not believe how nice Stevie was to that caller who asked what their chances were of meeting her. What was she supposed to say to that? She gave the best answer she could "There's always a chance". I can't believe these dumb people got through to her. Of course she is going to do shows in LA. I don't see it at all, but if you do, more power to ya. The AIDS theme couldn't be more obvious if she gave us a blow-by-blow essay on it.

What is "I have come to make you better I have come to take you away" about if it isn't an angel bringing a sick person (in this case HIV) up to heaven?

Also, what about "In my heart I leave great expections that you will find the answers to your questions and that life will once more be a celebration and that you will be touched by an angel"? That line is clearly someones last words spoken to a dying loved one.

I think Jim Ladd is probably well liked by many artists because he does seem to be well versed in actual music, the real thing...however his total perving out at the beginning of the interview was not only inappropriate but long winded and unnecessary. Yeah, we get it, she's hot...but seriously, I was wincing at some of the things he was saying.
Like I said, I don't claim to be able to differentiate between a vast number of DJ'S. Honestly I've been more interested in what Stevie has to say rather than an ingratiating DJ. I did, however admire the fact that he at least was well familiar with her music, not just her stage persona as I think the majority of the media is.

Jim has always been that way. That is just the way he is. From the very first interview he ever did with her he was saying things like that. I'd take Jim interviewing her any day over any other mindless bag.

Stevie doesn't give her (real) fans enough credit! She must think we're all stupid and that we don't remember what she said in one interview from another!

Or maybe you're giving her too much credit.

I don't think it's a matter of condescending to her fans as much as it's a reflection of Stevie's own memory. Her concept of time is almost always sketchy and non-linear. Look at some of the Enchanted footage when she's talking about writing Garbo and trying to remember how old she was at the time. She couldn't remember. Or listen to how her representation of time is almost always exagerated. That's just Stevie.

In my opinion, Stevie's "stories" change so much because her memory isn't the best. But more importantly they change because much of what she writes is complex and personal in nature and not one-dimensional characitures pulled from some false reality. As such she's not necessarily lying or being disengenious or even catering to what she thinks fans want to hear when her story changes. But rather her answers at any given time are more apt to be a reflection of the inspiration that is most central to her mind at that moment.

It just sounds good because of Sweet November to say it was about about someone dying of Aids at least IMO.On the 4th Day Of Compassion I was impressed to write a poem about AIDS and about the angel that I do believe in my heart is there for us! I call her the "Passageway Angel." The next night I typed it up from my notes, and added the last verse. If she wrote it on the 4th Annual Day Of Compassion, then it was written on June 21st, 1996. Just slightly less than a year before 'The Dance.'

The U.S. Copyright Office site (http://www.copyright.gov/) has the song's copyright registered on August 14th, 1997, with its creation date listed as 1996.
It usually takes within 4-5 months after submission for the application to be processed and for the copyright to be registered.

She is not always honest about what her songs are about anyway.I don't think she's intentionally dishonest about the meaning behind her songs... I think she simply "spills the beans" on one aspect of its meaning, and keeps some of the other aspects to herself. Most likely because she's not ready at that particular time to discuss those other aspects.

It's definitely "withholding," but I don't think it's dishonesty. :)

I still think FFG is about more then just Lindsey. I think she has oodles of journals with poems and lyrics and sayings and when she writes a song she may pull her lyrics from several different passages. Which is the reason she can write a song about AIDS with a peppering of Fleetwood Mac in there, for example.

you bring to mind the 1980 movie, "the fog," with Adrienne Barbeau playing a late-night dj named, what else, STEVIE Wayne, although i'm not positive about the last name but i'm pretty sure it's something like that. Anyway, how aprapos cause it could definately be stevie. she works the overnight shift; the radio station operates out of a light house on the coast of California in a town called Antonio Bay (not sure if that's a real town but it looks like it's somewhere near SF); and then there's the fog....track a ghost through the fog! Plus, she's got a 1980 stevie perm (although not as long) and speaks in this soft, sexy, raspy voice playing cool jazz.

I too want to know when the heck she is coming to Canada. However i hope this so called tour isn't just a hits package. She really should pull out the rare stuff and drop the tried and true ( DREAMS, GDW RHIANNON ETC)

Yeah! Their initials - that's it!

First names would be impossible - isn't there a limit to how many characters can be in your email address?

The names would never fit in the "send to" line. Which makes me think for the initials address to work she would need a vowel someplace. I guess that won't work either.

Oh Stevie just give us your email address. I bet she might even know how to send IMs.

I figured she did something with the computer..there are those photos in one of the tourbooks, Enchanted or TISL?, where you can see the AOL screen near her console.

Her screen name might have something to do with Karen..she uses her name and or initials at times. I like BuckinghamsBabe better!

I would assume Karen gets her all set up and logged on and then Stevie goes ahead and types. I believe there was someone on Mick's board that received an e-card from her as a thank you for a comic book they'd created. Again, I have a feeling Karen did everything and she typed

Stevie might have to know something about computers. I mean don't forget she does have that digital camera that she loves. I bet she knows how to send pics and print them out.

if anyone feels like trading me an audio disc copy of this interview let me know, I have plenty of stuff to send in return (Especially on DVD...And plenty of more audio-wise once I transfer it to disc, And most is not currently in circulation!!! )

You probably want the whole interview.

It's nice to see you back here, pal.
