View Full Version : Who's planning on going to Vegas?

I just thought that I would start a post for anyone who is planning on seeing Stevie in Las Vegas.

I figured that this would a place where we could post travel advice and stuff. I know that there is info on other threads but this one thread will be a lot easier for people to read.

Ok I will start:

I am going to Vegas May 8th-15th. May 8th is my birthday so this is my present to myself. I had a frequent flyer voucher so what a better way to use it.

I am not sure what shows I am going to see just yet. I don't gamble. I just like to walk around, take photos and eat.

What a great birthday present to yourself. I'm wearing new diamonds so I don't think I'll be going. However, I haven't done my taxes yet so if I get a refund you never know what could happen. :D

If I didn't have a free airline ticket I wouldn't be going either. It is not going to be a very good birthday so I figured why not go to Vegas.
You ring looks beautiful by the way.

I'm going! I, too, had a voucher for $250 thanks to a debacle with the airline on my way to Atlanta to see the Mac. I'll only be there during the week, though. Prices go up considerably starting Friday night. I plan to go the shows on the 10th and the 11th, and hang out until Friday having fun!

Sigh - I just can't make it all the way to Vegas - and if I could I'd actually opt to see my family over Stevie....oh well :o

I hope you all have tons of fun - and take plenty of pictures to post for us losers who aren't going :p

Has anyone been to Vegas and done any kind of tours or anything? I am thinking of doing a Grand Canyon tour or a river cruise mostly to get some nice photos. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm trying to find a way to. It will probably be during the week. As Amber said, cheaper, especially considering the $150 tix.

Yep - sad - I think I might stay at the Gold Coast, cause it's only $47/night  - sounds like a BYOBL place - bring your own bed linen...

 Hey if I go maybe I'll stay there too. If I end up going I'll probably go to the Tue or Wed show. I guess it also depends on whether I can get a good ticket or not. I only want to be up close. I've been spoiled by all my front row tickets for the SYW tour.

Yeah. I've never actually stayed in a really nice hotel, so... Plus, it's hardly like I want to sit around the hotel all day...(maybe the pool, but... ) There's another hotel I'm looking at, though, cause it has a spa - massage and facials and stuff. :woohoo: I adore massages, of course! Anyway, that one is $79/night - It's called Alexis Park Resort... :)

I can't decide whether or not I want to go to a Vegas show or wait to see if a summer tour is confirmed. Mom really wants to go to one of both, but eh. I had been really set on going to Vegas, but I've been having second thoughts about it, for whatever reason.

We'll see what happens, I s'pose.

I was thinking about going, but I don't think I will. I don't want to spend all that money, espeically since I'll eat some cash if I postpone my vacation. I was actually thinking of passing on Stevie this summer and going to see Debs in West Hollywood in June.

$79 is good. I'm usually a Holiday Inn Express kind of gal. :)
We're so frugal. That makes it sound more like a virtue, and less like I'm broke... But, yeah, $79 is fairly good. If you were sharing, and wanted a massage ( :p ) It would be really good. That's probably near the top of what I'm going to spend on hotel. I have to have a bit of money for gambling since i've never gambled...*oh my gosh, the news just said Rhea Perlman gave illegal $10,000 contribution to Arnold governator! Oh, Rhea, why, why???! :( *
Anyway, that hotel is about 1 mile from Caesars...

Work has already given me the time off and I have the money but something is making me not want to go. At this particular point (today, Saturday March 12th), I cannot justify going out there, spending all of that money to see her for a night or two (because you know i'll want the best tickets) and then having it be over. I'd much rather hold off until we receive more word about what's going on this summer and then travel to various locations and see her in what will more than likely be outdoor venues (which will be more inexpensive in comparison to what this venture will end up costing me) if there is in fact to be a summer tour. Perhaps i'll feel different later in the week or the beginning of next month but this is where my thought process is currently

I went July 4th weekend back in 2003. The traffic was awful! I did not know about the monarail type thing that they have at the time. I walked from MGM to Ceasar's and it just seemed like it took forever.

I don't think that Vegas will be that busy that week so maybe you would have better luck then I did.

Flight isn't even the biggest issue for me. It's tremendously cheap thanks to Southwest. I'm still up in the air about everything and like I said, I might feel differently in the next few weeks but as of now, i'm just not so sure i'm into it. Not that it wouldn't be an amazing time--i'm sure it would. I'm just trying to think in terms of how much bang I can get for my buck.

Yeah, I see that place on the map. You would need to get on the strip. If the have a shuttle or something that would be nice. I did however wait about an hour for one shuttle at one hotel stop. I was not too happy about that. That is why I want to be somewhat close and at least on the strip.

I've always been fortunate enough to either travel with my circle of friends from the NJ/PA area or have friends fly into Philadelphia and spend a few days up here with me or go down there for a few, etc. I usually meet up with people at the venue and we'll go out for drinks afterwards. However, I do see the appeal of Vegas. A lot of people are in and out so fast you don't really get to converse much.

That's what happened, Curtie - I was talking about staying somewhere about a mile away, which didn't seem far at all to me - then Pattie, who has been there before, suggested that it may end up seeming further than it does to me right now. Ie, it may be more of a pain than I think. :)

Exactly and some casinos that look like they are not too far away actual take a long time to get to. That is if you walk. Yes, they have shuttles but I saw one maybe once every hour outside my hotel. I now know that they have monarails but those might only be on the strip and if you are not there then that might not be good either.

I have a few co-workers who know Vegas inside and out so I am going to find out some more info from them. They also keep telling me all the deals that are out there but most of those are in April the price jumps in May. They are all going in April of course.

If Stevie played in April we could all get some deals!

Right, and if you're out late it may "seem" like a good idea to walk back to your hotel but it isn't. My friends and I walked the strip home at 4 or 5 in the morning and we were very frightened, don't do this.

Exactly! Trust me you do not want to be out alone at night in Vegas. The shuttle could not even drop me off at the hotel due to the traffic and I had to walk through this parking lot near a movie theater and it was pretty scary. It was not far but I was still kind of scared at night by myself.

That is why I was thinking that if everyone kind of stayed near by we could kind of leave the venue together or something. Safety in numbers as they say.

I dunno. I'd rather get in a cab and ride for 4 or 5 miles than walk a few blocks in the middle of the night. Strength in numbers or not, people do the craziest things nowadays....no matter if there is a crowd or not. That's just me.... ;)

If you can stay closer then you don't need to travel 4 or 5 miles in a cab. You can still take one but it won't be as much and trust me if you saw that traffic you better hope to bring a pillow cause you gonna be there a looong time.

Of course I went like I have said a billion times before  during July 4th weekend of 2003 so it would be very busy.

Trust me people - stay on The Strip. It's so much easier (and you can get decent prices, esp during the week.) Try Expedia & those type websites. My brother's gotten really good deals through cheaptickets.com (I believe he stayed at Mandalay Bay for $65 per night.)

Off strip is a huge pain - like someone said, your hotel may have a shuttle, but it may only be hourly; it may not run after midnight; you may have to meet the shuttle in a certain place at a specific time to get back. And you CANNOT walk TO the Strip, for the most part - it's surrounded by highways & busy streets with no sidewalks. It's not like other cities - everything looks really close on the map, but sue to the immense size of these places, it's deceiving. However, you can walk up & down the Strip itself.

Downtown may be the only exception - I believe there's shuttles between downtown and the strip all night. And a cab shouldn't be that bad - $25 maybe? Not sure about the newer area (Rio, Palms, etc.)

Cabs are easy, not terribly pricey. The only drawback is that you can't get them curbside like every other city. It's a traffic law. You have to go to one of the hotel entrances to get one - not a big deal if the entrance is close to the street (Boardwalk, Circus Circus) but the bigger hotels (Luxor, Caesars) are set WAY back - some actually have people movers to take you from the street into the place, but they'll throw you into the casinos first & sometimes it's damn near impossible to find your way out.

The bus is very easy, very cheap, runs up & down the street all day & night. I wouldn't recommend taking it late at night though. :distress: Scary. The trolleys are good too, but they only make stops at certain hotels & they don't drop you off on the street either - they put you at the hotel's entrance, so you may have to walk 10 or 15 minutes to where you need to go. I think it's $3 per ride no matter how far you're going; I think they have an "all day unlimited pass" too, not sure how much.

Another option is the monorail, which runs behind several of the larger hotels. It only connects certain ones, though - MGM, Paris, Bally's, Caesars, off the top of my head. It's great if you're staying at one of those hotels; but it doesn't run all night AND last time I was there it was shut down for repairs both times we tried to get on. So it's not 100% reliable. Here's a link:

I'm a regular reader of these forums and haven't posted much before so first of all, hi! :)

I live in Sydney, Australia and i'm heading to Vancouver in 3 weeks time for a year or so (working holiday visa) and couldn't believe it when i heard that Stevie is doing shows in Las Vegas! :D

I have no idea whether or not i can afford to do Las Vegas for a few days/nights to see her perform. I haven't been to Las Vegas before so i have no idea whether i'd just be getting in over my head on all this  Can anyone let me know if there are any good websites in regards to acommodation and for flights too (i'd be coming from Vancouver), because if i can get a *rough* idea on an overall cost and some much needed advice from my fellow Stevie/FM fans then i can deicde whether or not i'll get the chance to see her live for the first time (as a solo act!...i saw her Fm last year in Sydney)

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Hi! Congrats on your uh...work visa and exciting new stuff. Welcome...You might just want to start with cheaptickets.com or expedia.com - you can get an idea of prices of flights. And then, if you find a nice flight, you can check the website of the actual airline - maybe it will be cheaper that way. As far as hotels...i4Vegas.com was helpful to me to look around at all the hotels, and they have a little map there so you can see how far things are from Caesars. (i4vegas.com/strip_map/). From reading around the threads, it seems that you should really try to get a hotel on the strip. They are more pricey, though. I found a couple about 1/2 - 1 mile from the strip (which I didn't think was very far, but people have been telling me that in Vegas, it's much farther than it seems  ) that are 50-80 dollars per night. Otherwise I would say you may be looking at more per night...Anyway, I hope this was helpful, and I hope you get to go!!! :wavey:

You're welcome. There were 3 of us and I did not feel safe even not being alone. There were sleazies all over and someone even broke a bottle on the street behind us and pieces of the glass rolled up to our feet and past us. They must have thrown it toward us, I don't know if it was intended for us or someone close to us but we didn't stick around, nor turn around, to ask questions. It wasn't fun. Make sure you don't walk but take a cab at night.

That's great advice. Las Vegas and especially the strip can be extremely seedy. That's why most people live at least 10-15 miles from the strip (myself included).

I have some really horrid stories, but I'll spare you guys. ;)

Hmm, I was there when I was 17 and I recall walking back along the strip by myself at about midnight. I'm an innocent Australian, I wasn't aware that people wanted to attack me whilst out and about. Maybe it was the easily detectable retardation that kept them disinterested.

Well, for Vegas that isn't late. We were walking the strip at 4 or 5 in the morning. I'm glad you didn't encounter any problems!

I have been battling something off-and-on since the late 1990's, But each time it returns I am worse than the previous time (My previous Dr.passed away, So I have to find one who can quit BS-ing me around like my current Dr. is)...This time I am hurting big time (If ya know how yer muscles hurt during a bout of flu that is how I feel, Without the flu part).

Deb is doin' great, She had a quarterly checkup Thursday (Before the KU show) and her oncologist said she is doin' great...Another PET scan in June and then she'll be cancer free for 1 year, Which is the best news to hear.

you're probably right. Some people probably have "automatic tickets" or something. But remember, Tiff still hasn't piped in on any of these threads...  WE KNOW YOU HAVE THEM, TIFF! COME OUT WITH YOUR TICKETS UP!

God was I pissed when she covered this tune. I, of course, prefer Cyndi's version.

I drove all night...
Celine looked a fright...
The hair's not right...
I pity her plight...
The tan's just too bright...
Oh, I drove all night
To get away from you...
It was your tan and that heinous 'do...
You called it "nice" but I called it "poo"...

Cute. :wavey: I was all over it. I'm in for Wed at least. For Tues I will try for sec 4 and hold out for that or get last minute nosebleeds if still available. But I couldn't pass up that seat!

There's no fairness in ticket selling anymore. Somehow blocks are siphoned off before the sale even begins. :sigh: I know some go to family and friends of the band but there is something more to it. Is it possible ticketbastard sells blocks to brokers?

They are already up at www.encoretickets.com - but they not that good or even better than what is available online now. But, I have used them in the past and they do get KILLER tickets - sadly, its a high price for that luxury yea yea yea

for the Keith Urban show

Since you're a Keith Urban fan, you may be happy to hear he has a duet with Bon Jovi on the upcoming BJ record. It is a great song, and Keith sounds excellent on it. Hoping it makes the final cut and y'all get to hear it. :blob2:

i think it's hard for lawyers to get "sick". sometimes they have important "trials" - where millions of dollars, or someone's guilt or innocence rest on the outcome. ok, mainly on TV, but it could happen. :D

I wish! I got section 5 row HH for the 10th, and section 3 row EE for the 11th. I'm going to try the week before for the last two. I'm excited :D.

By the way, if anyone is looking for an affordable room and would be up for sharing, PM me. My friend and I might be able to use another person to split with. We're staying at the Flamingo the 10th and 11th, and possibly the rest of the week.
