If I heard that in the first month or two of a relationship, I'd go running for the hills. But that's just me. :)

Absolutely.
Gimme 8 months to a year before the LOVE word.

After 4 or 5 months is OK, but better after 6. Hubby thinks a year.
I used to know this guy in HS that used to tell a girl "I love you" right after she agreed to date him. Hope he got out of that habit.

You say, I heart you, on the first date, after dinner. After the main course, but before dessert. HELLO!? I watch Blind Date. ;)

I think it varies. I have known I felt that way within about five minutes. Others, it took much much much longer
I do think it is possible to love someone without knowing them, which is what happens with love at first sight, which IMO is diff than a crush or mere infatuation which I have had as well. Then, once you get to know them, the bad can outweigh the good.

Personally, I'd say six months minimum. Even if I felt it before then, I wouldn't say it so early in the relationship.

Hmm...
Well, the context might help (or maybe it doesn't matter). We've been dating for a little over a month, and this was more like a quick "love ya" at the end of a conversation, not a lingering, romantic "I love you." Although, there was a bit of a pause before he said it. It made me wince a little bit, because I know this guy has been developing strong feelings (from his perspective) for me, but has been biting his tongue.

I don't know...he hasn't been clingy, or anything like that. I still feel like I'm getting to know they guy, and deciding how I feel about him (although, I do like him a lot), and he loves me already?

Well, first and foremost - what's not to love about you :xoxo: :xoxo: :xoxo: :xoxo:
Secondly - some people just fall fast - some take more time  I think the important thing is to after say three months or so - make a list of the things you like and the things you do not and go from there. It is actually frightening sometimes when you look at that list
Best of luck to you!!!!!!
If it works out - let me know where to send the blender

It's nice that guy loves you, though. And I don't think it's too serious that he said it. And if you don't love him yet, you just don't.

How soon is too soon for someone to say "I love you" in a relationship?
In my opinion, there's no rule on how long to wait until you say "I love you"... it depends on how the relationship is going, and how connected the two of you are (or aren't).
I've heard it from a couple of guys in record time, and I found myself scrambling to figure out a nice way to let them know I wasn't feeling it yet.
However, recently someone said it to me when other people would consider it "way too soon," but from him it was VERY welcome. :xoxo:
So, I think the answer is... it's never too soon when it FEELS right. And you will know when it's right. :)

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about, to be honest. Sounds like it was more of an expression than an exchange of deep feelings. ;) Now, if the person I've currently been seeing for the past two weeks said anything like that, I'd barricade myself in my bedroom and never leave.

He does, it's just good company, nothing more. And if he didn't have a sense of humor, I'd be incredibly uninterested. I've dated serious types before and it felt like I was dying a slow death. Making me laugh is a prerequisite for even conversing with me.

I totally agree with that. For some 2 weeks is right, for some 2 years isn't enough time. Love is sneaky..it's a frame of mind ..it just happens...there is no time frame.
I think if you are in love, you would want to scream it out..there would be no control or time frame. When it happens...it grabs you.

Me too! And it's not even the size -- I've developed a very weird, very serious "manicured thumbnail fetish". I think it's because I bite mine. I was able to stop biting all my other fingernails, just not my thumbnails.
And, because I'm sure this board will appreciate this, the only reason I was able to stop biting my nails completely in the first place was because I had front row seats to the Tango show in Houston.
"What if I get to shake Stevie's hand? (which I did, btw :blob1: ) Better stop biting my fingernails right away!!"
And the day after the concert, I was so depressed that it was over, I basically chewed off my thumbnails. And I still do, 18 years later.

OMG, me, too. I'm so embarrassed to admit it, but he's hot. That lisp of his, sheesh.Yep. Him and Stephen Colbert. Hot. :blob2:
Anyway, about the "I love you" thing. Because of some things I've been through, I make a point of waiting at least six months, as Krista said earlier in this thread. I can feel something that is quite genuine for someone, but I can be totally unaware of something really awful about the person until a few months into the relationship. Case and point is this woman I got all absorbed in about a year ago. She told me she loved me after about two weeks, and I couldn't say it back, but I was secretly flattered that she said it because I was getting into her. A few months later she drops it on me that it's basically unacceptable for me to not be Christian. She really believed I was going to hell. That was a mess. But, I don't think it's nearly as disturbing, markolas, if the guy just said "love ya" in a more playful way rather than a dead serious manner. Maybe he's saving the solemn version for when y'all have been dating longer. Either way, I wouldn't offer anything to him if it's not what you really feel, but I'm sure you know that. Just my two cents. :)

 I had to read your post twice, because I really thought you were talking about yourself part of the time, and that you don't date men. I was thinking, Wait, wait, wait...Suze likes women?!? OMG! Then I realized you were referring to diss. :o
I gotta imitate Brian here:
Hillary, "too absored in other people's sexual orientations"
Haha, after I clicked Submit I realized it could be misconstrued. I broke up with the BF in mid December and generally have been having trouble seeing men in a positive light (that is putting it quite mildly). But if I did date women I would probably be thrilled if a young thing like you were interested in an old lady such as myself! ;) :xoxo: However, I really am a straight girl but I may just find myself like Stevie since I can't really find a good match for myself. But we'll see.

No, I haven't, this is the first one. I love all sexes, though, dear.
All = Yeah, that third and fourth and fifth sex really does it for me, too. :)

I love them all too, it's just messy enough having the possiblity of dating half of the singles population, never mind all of it!

Well, I think that guess stemmed from me not really knowing much about it and making up the whole thing. And any gaydar i may have does not extend to instrinsically knowing who would be a top or a bottom, or even why.

Eh, Mo Rocca is dorky sexy, but Colbert is just dorky to me. He is hilarious, though.
I like it when Mo goes on Larry King, he's a riot. King can't keep up with him and it shows. I saw reruns of when King had him at the DNC walking around and cracking jokes; I almost spit my drink when he said he had been recruited and adopted by the American Samoas.
