It's not that they would view it. I don't think it needs to be viewed by the subjects to qualify as being in bad taste. When the joke is a consistent, crude depiction of his wife as a drug addicted whore who mistreats her children, I think it is offensive. Some of those stories were through the eyes of abused children. Whether it's fantasy or not, depicting these people that way as a joke, yes I still find it offensive.

And I suppose Lindsey bondage and 80 pages worth of drug-induced, knife toating self-loathing is in fabulous taste? I like you, Lux but c'mon...it's a joke. I'm going to be honest and say yea, i'm Jana (big surprise) and there are 12 other people that participated as well--some you know, some you don't. It was a huge joke--some of us only posted once while others continued to post. I don't have time to keep up with a fake journal so it was a one shot deal until Moony discovered the postings yesterday. Everyone thought it would be funny to continue the postings. If you're offended, I apologize but it was meant to be outlandish and humorous and we doubted anyone would stumble upon it. Surprise, surprise, someone did. Everyone found out.

But weren't you the one who was upset that someone had made one rude remark about Chris Nicks.

someone posted in the "Ask the Backup Singer thread:

"I would love to ask Lori how she can stand being married to such a pig"

I believe this was strandinthewind's comment about the remark:

"I mean this is such a tired topic - the point has been made 1,000 times and their teenage daughter surfs the net and sure as hell does not need you people bashing her dad no matter what you think or how true it might be.

Is it so hard for you all to get that - Is it so hard for you to put yourself in her position? Is it so hard for you to realize that it is not YOUR place to tell her your opinion about her dad?

Apparently it is because you people feel - seemingly with glee - after all this thread was not even about Chris Nicks and you both immediately thought to slam him - compelled to point this out everytime - it is rude and uncalled for - but for some reason you all just cannot let it go - whatever "

Here's your response:

Amen sweetie. She's no longer a child--she's out here looking and she can read this crap that's being spewed about. Regardless of how much you dislike her father, have some respect for that girl please

I'm assuming the respect is only meant for Jessica Nicks and portraying the Buckingham children as abused and foul mouthed offspring of a drugged out jealous and insane mother is fair game....as long as its all in fun? I suppose whether or not the Buckingham children, their friends or family ever stumble on these remarks is really not the point, as Lux has pointed out. But it seems hypocritical to me to chastize someone for making a small remark about Chris Nicks but then write the journal entries you and your friends did about Lindsey's wife and their children

Did I post those things? Is that MY journal? No. So that wasn't me who posted them. I cannot be responsible for what other people say and do. Only myself. As I said, I made one journal entry back in August and another yesterday. This was something that you'd have to literally be on livejournal and searching for in order to find--not on an open forum. But, now it's out. Oh well. Like I said in my previous post IT WAS MEANT TO BE OUTLANDISH AND SATIRICAL. Did I agree with everything everyone said? No. Which Is why I posted one entry in the journal--I didn't have time to post and I didn't really get into it. However, after Moony found the journals, it was discussed and the entry making resumed from everyone and the link to the disclaimer was taken down so you wouldn't know who the participants were (not that it was difficult to figure out). Point being, there was a disclaimer saying that everything was in jest and no one should take it seriously. It wasn't meant to be serious unlike coming out on a board and saying flat out what you think of him. If that makes me a huge hypocrite, so be it but the person who initially got me to respond in this thread can join that club too.

I didn't say or infer that it was only you who authored or participated in the journals, I thought you had made that clear in your previous post. You're the only one who posted and took responsibility for the journals, and since you chose to defend them as harmless fun and a joke, I quoted your post.

I didn't even realize there were journal entries made after the entries were discovered yesterday....IMO, that makes it worse.

You and your friends also had the option of making the journals private at the inception or yesterday when they were discovered.

If we want to get into a discussion about being "serious" about the things that are posted about Lindsey's wife on public boards, this thread could go on forever. One could read strandinthewind's post about Chris Nicks and apply that same empathy, care and respect for Lindsey's wife with most of the comments that are made about her on public boards by many of the people who posted in those journals, including you.

Here's his post once again

Since you're sensitive to what is being read by the children associated with the band and their families, I hope you choose to defend Lindsey's wife when you see someone posting serious comments like that about her and telling people what you/they "flat out think of her"

Well I apoligize if it came off that way but yes, it seemed like because I was the only one who came forward and said yea, I did it, one of those people was me that i'm going to be the one to get crap for it. And no, unless you have a paid account with Live Journal, you are unable to make entries private. Thusly, the reason they could be found. And if you were to go on BN and see what happened the last time someone speculated on Lindsey marriage (this is before the new board came into fruition--people have been rather decent thus far) you'd see I had in fact made more than one plee for people to not be rabid Kristen haters. There's plenty that's said by many people, including you and your friends, that dead on serious and mean spirited about Lindsey's wife and his marriage and its not said or meant to be taken as a joke. When it is a joke, the jokes are often mean spirited in nature. I'm also not saying that you and your friends who did these journals are the only ones that participate, far far from it.

Obviously, anyone who read those journal entries knew they were not serious and were meant as a joke, but somethings are just "not that funny"....corny but true ;) I also have a problem when anyone brings small children into things, you can excuse a lot but IMO children are off limits... as is child abuse of any kind. Maybe that's where it crossed the line for many of us this time. No, I'm not into toilet humor but I think without the involvement of the children and abuse it would or could have have been taken in a lighter spirit.

Since very little of it has been quoted, it might be a good idea to take them down or make them private. That's a suggestion since these things tend to hang around on the internet search engines years later, and I'm sure none of you would ever want Lindsey's children to see those entries....I hope:)

Well, now that we're all stepping to the front line...

Hi, kids. I'm Greg. I posted as both John and Elisecia.

The whole thing was my idea (although it was more of a joint-brainstorm thing between me and a friend who doesn't post here). I was sent a link by said friend to a Harry Potter community where they did caricatures of the characters in the series. We thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be fun to do this with FM?" A little collaboration between a few more friends and we had fun being completely ridiculous for a while.

If you wanna complain and whatnot, feel free to ship it over to me, but I can't say I'll reply. I accept that many see it as humourous, as was the intention. I accept that some find it offensive. It was just meant as a satire/lampoon/burlesque, whatever you want to call it. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously at all, and for the most part it hasn't been, but I do tend to think that a few are overreacting. Just let us have our fun and go on with your lives. Sorry if I sound bitchy or preachy, but eh. I'm getting sleepy right now.

So that's what. Two people who are "out" now? Maybe others will speak up.

I think I made it clear that I didn't think Marissa authored these or made all the entries herself. She was the first one to step up and take responsiblity for them so I responded to her. The journals have been public for a day and some of the people who posted in them were present in this thread and didn't say anything up until Lux's post saying she thought they were in poor taste. I don't care or think it's important for everyone to "out" themselves, its done.

I don't think I'm overreacting when it comes to children or abuse, but we have a disagreement about whether those journal entries are all in fun. I'll go on with my life and hopefully if people feel the need to have that type of fun again, they'll post it where it can't be found.

Like I said, I didn't necessarily agree with everything that was said. However, I thought some peoples takes on them were absolutely hysterical. The person who portrayed Kristen made me laugh as did the person who portrayed Sulamith and the person who portrayed Karen. My journal has been deleted but I did that on my own accord. If no one else wants to delete their journal? that's entirely up to them. As far as privatizing is concerned, like I said, they are all unpaid accounts so in order for them to "cease to exist" ;) they would have to delete them as well. Of course i'm not a total cold-hearted bitch and wouldn't want for them to find the entries when they're older and I'm highly douting anyone else would want that either. It wasn't about hurting anyones feelings or being mean spirited but I will certainly take everyones points into consideration.

Just because you object to something doesn't mean you can carp at everyone for it.

I posted my opinion, if you don't like it, don't read it. That's simple enough.

You weren't forced to read it. You read it at your own free will and could have stopped at any time.

Oh, but I did stop reading, I didn't read most of it. That's why I wasn't aware people had posted in it yesterday. I got the message reading a few of the posts in each journal, I didn't have to read every word.

I'm not sure how you can say the journals weren't all in fun. I think that such statements should be limited to those involved, ie the people who wrote the entries. To each his/her own, though.

They all weren't in fun, I'd post some of the things I didn't find funny, but as I said before I don't want it to end up in some search engine. I don't know what you mean by the statements should be limited to those involved. If you didn't write anything tasteless and over the line, then my comments about child abuse and making Lindsey's wife out to be a drugged out whore who abuses her children wouldn't apply to you.

It's clear how some of the posts could be deemed offensive, particularly the MiniBuck ones (which I myself thought were a little out there). But once again, neither you nor anyone else was under obligation to read it.

Yea, just a little out there. That's why I stopped reading them but that doesn't mean that they're not offensive and tasteless.

Well, Cour, if you find them so filthy and offensive, then why don't you post them here, and maybe we can realize how "filthy" our minds are. I thought they were very, very, very funny. I laughed outloud reading them and that's not something I do a whole lot. And I don't care about anyone in FM reading them or their families or any of that. If you're famous, you need to have a sense of humor about these things. And this was damned funny! Dear Cour,
Get over it.
Thnx,
Greg

It applies to me because I started the community. If I hadn't have started the project (if you want to call it that, you won't, but you have to disagree with everything), this thread wouldn't have started. And thusly, you wouldn't be bitching right now and I thusly wouldn't have a headache and want to throw my computer to the wall.

I don't see how it applies to YOU. You read them. I don't care if you didn't read a whole post or whatever, you still read them. I don't see how you can claim that the posts weren't in fun, since you didn't write them. You aren't the people who wrote them, so you can't tell me whether or not their posts were made in fun.

And since you can't let anything go without an arguement, I'm going to follow that statement as so: I know you're going to say "OGM BUT LYK U RNT THEM EITHER LOLZ SO U KANT SAY BCUZ U DONT KNOW TEH INTENSHUNS EITHERZ." I was in communication with everyone throughout this whole journal thing. We all agreed everything would be purely satirical, exaggerating greatly the people involved. In that respect, I can say that I am clear of their intentions. You, however, weren't involved in any of the writing or planning of these journals. You therefore do not know the intentions of the posters.

Right. And I'm going to stop reading your posts. But, you know, that doesn't mean that you're not totally blowing this out of proportion or stirring **** or anything, you know. Because that's wrong.

Oh. Above? Just my opinion and all. You don't, you know, have to read it or anything. I'm sure just a few words or sentences will give you an accurate representation of the whole thing.

I'm not reading it. right back at ya!

How do you mean? You haven't read it, since you've refused to do so. Do you mean "Lots of words" right back at ya?

Awww ::sniff:: He likes me! The feeling is mutual, although I'm a little sensetive about touching (unless intoxicated) so I won't plant one on you just yet.

Yes, I have every Ledgie ranked now...most annoying to least. Even the ones who posted once.

Wonder how high in the annoyance rankings I appear?

Discrimination! I have a comfy home (chasm) especially designed for guests of your physique to reside. It's much more accomodating that the abode your brand offers. No? Guess my accomodation is being rejected.

www.livejournal.com

Our data center (Internap, the same one we've been at for many years) lost all its power, including redundant backup power, for some unknown reason. (unknown to us, at least) We're currently dealing with verifying the correct operation of our 100+ servers. Not fun. We're not happy about this. Sorry... :-/ More details later.

Update #1, 7:35 pm PST: we have power again, and we're working to assess the state of the databases. The worst thing we could do right now is rush the site up in an unreliable state. We're checking all the hardware and data, making sure everything's consistent. Where it's not, we'll be restoring from recent backups and replaying all the changes since that time, to get to the current point in time, but in good shape. We'll be providing more technical details later, for those curious, on the power failure (when we learn more), the database details, and the recovery process. For now, please be patient. We'll be working all weekend on this if we have to.

Update #2, 10:11 pm: So far so good. Things are checking out, but we're being paranoid. A few annoying issues, but nothing that's not fixable. We're going to be buying a bunch of rack-mount UPS units on Monday so this doesn't happen again. In the past we've always trusted Internap's insanely redundant power and UPS systems, but now that this has happened to us twice, we realize the first time wasn't a total freak coincidence. C'est la vie.

You learn to accept that not everybody finds the same thing funny. I'm just sick of people bashing his wife for the reason that she's not Stevie, but bashing her for the reason that she's a money-hungry, drug addicted, child abusing whore is taking it a step further. I'm also terribly sorry that I find it offensive when people get their jollies from setting up scenarios of child abuse, particularly when it's about specific, real people. I think it is offensive to the depicted perpetrator and offensive to find a scenario of child-neglect all a big laugh. Incidentally, any post made on those journals can be a private post.Wow. I didn't see the ones you read. I do find that very offensive. :(

Wow, I totally missed this thread earlier this year but I'm gonna bump it now because I always wondered who started the FM Drama board.

Does anyone know? I didn't realise it had even been discussed on The Ledge!
