Report: 'Housewives' Flip Out at Shoot
44 minutes ago Television - AP
NEW YORK - They may appear sultry and ready for summer on the May cover of Vanity Fair, but according to the magazine, the stars of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" were actually steaming angry.
Vanity Fair's cover proclaims: "You wouldn't believe what it took just to get this photo!" The article acknowledges that the poolside photo-shoot, in which the five women appear in different colored bathing suits, was manned by an ABC representative who was to make sure that certain demands were met — including that Teri Hatcher didn't select her wardrobe first or appear in the center of any group photo.
"Whatever you do," the ABC rep, who wasn't identified by name, said when he arrived on the set, "do not let Teri go to wardrobe first."
Despite the rep's plea, Hatcher was the first "housewife" to visit wardrobe, and she had consulted with the stylist days in advance. At one point, the rep proclaimed: "This is a problem. I'm getting text messages from Eva (Longoria). Everything is not fine."
The struggles continued once the photographer started snapping. Redhead Marcia Cross turned red-hot when she saw Hatcher standing next to her in the center of the shot, according to the article. Cross grabbed her bathrobe and stormed egoff, spewing expletives at the ABC rep.
Hatcher later walked to the other end of the set, where "she got into a tearful, heated conversation on her cell phone."
In the fold-out May cover, which hits newsstands April 12, the center position belongs to Nicollette Sheridan, who's flanked by Hatcher and Cross with Longoria and Felicity Huffman posed beneath them on a chaise — although Cross and Huffman can't been seen when the cover is folded.
Also in the article, the women discuss the media blitz surrounding the show and its stars. Huffman believes a "Desperate" backlash is imminent while Cross just ignores it all.
"Honestly, I don't read it," Cross told Vanity Fair of the media coverage. "And I don't even watch the show right now. It's too much. It's just too much..."

From what I've read so far, Cross absolutely exploded during the shoot. They tried to put Hatcher in the middle of the photo as if she was the star of the show when they had already been told by an ABC rep that they had to treat the women as equals or the shoot was off. Cross called the rep over and screamed "Do your ****ing job!" and just kept going off. I knew there was a reason I liked her. :D
And Eva Longoria is blaming the bitchiness on working 16 hour days. As if being on set is that hard, half the time you're just standing around waiting for them to set up the shots.

Sorry, but I were one of the stars of a hit ensemble show, I'd be furious if one out of five was treated as the sole star. The filth that would spew out of my mouth would be legendary and I wouldn't come out of my trailer until I got a ****ing bonus and an apology in writing.

do we really know she's being treated as the sole star? And, I would look at how Terri is acting. If she's not acting like the sole star, then I wouldn't be all pissy. I bet Felicity Huffman was cool about the whole thing. :) Obviously, they all deserve equal respect, but sometimes you can't help it if people like someone else more than they like you. And, being huffy because someone likes someone else more just looks catty.
But, that said, this is hollywood, and actresses, i'm sure it's part and parcel of the whole thing.

Oop! I just read that she was being paid more than the others. Now we're talking pissed! hehehehe. That's not really very fair, considering the other women, especially Marcia Cross, have just as much TV background, etc. But the articles also said that people just like Teri the best. It also said that someone said they were sick of starring in "The Terri Hatcher Show" (yipes!) and were demanded better story lines and more air time. I actually never noticed that it was especially all about Teri, i thought the air time, for the most part, seemed split pretty equally. It also said that Teri was saddened by her costar's reactions, and was considering leaving. But I'm sure she won't, it's her best, most lucrative role in a long time.

Oop, Again - looks like I may stand corrected...: It's so sad when a Sag and an Aries can't get along....
"Teri won't join co-stars to ask for a group raise--because she wants more money for herself!
Marcia Cross and Teri Hatcher
Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross have gone from "Desperate Housewives" to bitter enemies.
Marcia is fed up because she thinks that Teri has been acting like a prima donna since she took home the Golden Globe Award two months ago, said a source close to the show.
She's angry at Teri, who plays klutzy divorced mom Susan, for showing up late for tapings and trying to direct the other actors and offer advice during their scenes, adds the insider.
Marcia's also livid that Teri refused to join her and their co-stars -- Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Nicollette Sheridan -- in asking for a group raise, according to the source, who claims that Teri opted instead to negotiate more money for herself as the show's biggest star.
UNBEARABLE
"Teri has become unbearable," said the source.
But Marcia, who plays the fastidious Bree, is not shy about letting Teri know exactly how she feels.
"When Oprah Winfrey came out to film a 10- minute short episode written especially for her by the show's creator Marc Cherry, Marcia struck back," said a set insider.
"Teri is often late, so Marcia took her sweet time getting to the set. When she arrived almost a half hour late, she casually yelled to all who could hear -- 'Sorry guys, I was pulling a Teri.'
"Teri turned red with embarrassment.
"And when Teri offered acting advice, Marcia stopped her abruptly by saying, 'Thanks, Ter, but I think I'll go with the director's notes.'
"Teri was stunned."
However, an insider says that the biggest sore spot between the two stars is Teri's decision to go it alone instead of uniting with the other four female leads as they renegotiate their contracts.
Each actress earns between $47,000 and $74,000 per show, with Nicollette making the least and Teri making the most, said the source.
Now that the show is a smash hit, network execs and producers know they have to offer a sizable salary hike. They've tried to keep the cast happy in the meantime by giving them new trailers and $50,000 bonuses, added the insider.
According to the insider, Nicollette Sheridan has openly complained, the rest of the cast has remained mum so far about money.
"They say they'll let their attorney do the talking for them," said the insider.
The plan was for the women to negotiate their salaries as a group the way the cast of "Friends" did, said the source.
They'd get one attorney to represent them and they'd each ask for a quarter of a million dollars an episode, but settle for $200,000.
"Marcia, Felicity, Eva and Nicollette have all discussed it and this is what they wanted to do. But Teri basically blew them off," said the source.
"She feels the situation is more like 'Seinfeld' than 'Friends' -- where she is the star and the rest of the cast can fend for themselves.
"She's made it clear to them she wants big bucks, far more than anyone else."
If the rest of the cast gets $200,000 an episode, sources say Teri wants at least $100,000 more -- plus a piece of the syndication.
"Marcia told a pal, 'Teri's only in it for herself.'"
STAR TREATMENT
Although Marcia has been Teri's most vocal critic, the other co-stars feel much the same, said the insider.
"Teri didn't even attend Eva's 30th birthday bash at a friend's Encino home.
"Marcia told a friend: 'Teri wants star treatment, but the rest of us see right through her!' "

I always thought salaries for actors were ridiculous, but not when you really think about it. Studios make millions upon millions upon millions based on the actors that essentially sell the movie or television show to the public. It's only fair that they get a hefty cut of the profits. If it weren't for the actors who make them the money, the studios would be nowhere. It bothers me that teachers get piss for pay and actors get millions annually, but hey, the teachers chose the wrong profession.

If this show makes it long term, the best thing they could do is band together as an ensemble, a la Friends. Correction: the only way this show (with these actresses playing these characters) can make it long term is if they do.

Ditto. Bree seems like the star of ths show if you ask me. Teri's character is boring and there is no reason she should be considered the star. She gets equal airtime and her stories are pretty lame compared to the much more interesting stories all the other woman are involved in. Marcia has every right to be mad especially considering her chacter has gotten much more hype then Susan's character. Everyone talks about Bree and everyone loves Bree. She is like Samantha on Sex, she may not exactly be the star but she is certainly everyone's favorite.

Exactly... and in this case Susan is the least interesting and is, I suppose, the main character. Although I don't really care what the press wants us to believe- it is an ensemble cast. If I didn't read these articles or see press photos or whatever I would consider Susan just a regular old housewife.

I agree, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman are great. I knew it would be about Teri and Nicollete because they were the bigger stars really.
Teri seems really nice, she is endearing. I used to watch her on MacGyver LOL.
Nicolette was GREAT on Knots, but now , ech, something about her.
But Marcia is different. Her character is facinating.

You don't actually believe the sh*t you read about people do you? I don't believe she did all of those things. That said, you make some good points.
My perspective is having been the underpaid person and having to suck it up. Now, I'm talking $9,000 so I suppose with them the stakes are even higher. But I couldn't just whine and be a baby about it, that's just stupid.
There is something about people being social animals that if they *like* someone then they give them preferential treatment. Teri comes off as very likeable and so gets most of the attention. It is what it is. That cannot be controlled. It is frustrating to the others, yes but as mature women they should know how to handle themselves better.
But technically she isn't the star so if she is pulling this diva crap then she's out of line. However, for the execs to have to manage who gets in the middle of a photo and who gets to wardrobe first seems kind of silly to me. You just can't make these things "fair". And why shouldn't Teri try to get the best outfit and position? And the other ladies. No one can control who is popular.

I think someone mentioned that earlier, but I don't understand. What was the situation? Did she date someone in the band? What's the deal with that? On all the parts I've seen her in, she's usually played an annoying, weak, air brained lady - but well. So I'm not exactly sure what all the hype is about....

Stevie saw a film w/ Lesley Ann Warren in it, I think it was a western and Lesley was a "Miss Kitty" type in it. Anyway, that's what inspired the song...
I LOVE the Cinderella w/ Lesley Ann Warren in it. It was a made for TV movie, but I always liked it better than the Caron version...

I think she's a damn fine actress, one of my all-time favorites. I'll even watch the ultimate **** film if she's in it (and have). You should see her in The Limey (her and Terence Stamp make a great team, imo) and Victor/Victoria.
And she was great on Desperate Housewives (can't believe she's almost sixty!), I'm happy she's on it next week, too. :D

I know what it is already, it couldn't be any more obvious!
Mary Alice worked at a hospital in Utah with Huber's sister, her and her hubby stole a baby named Dana, moved out of the state, changed their identities, and that was that.
Either that or Zach was born a hermaphrodite.

Well, admittedly, I mainly remember her from some weird Bruce Willis movie, with that lovely french tart who was in...Indochine? and Will and Grace. So it's not really as though I'd seen her full body of work. (she's kind of the "hey, it's that chick!" lady).
I don't remember her from Victor Victoria, but i've barely seen it once. I love Terence Stamp (he's so weird!) so maybe I will check that movie out. I'd love to see her in something where she's different than i've seen her act in the other things....

Loving the Lynette/Mrs. McKlusky thing. Too funny.
I can't connect all the twists & turns & what's related to what anymore. So Mike's ex, the woman he was looking for, is the body in the toybox? So Mary Alice & her husband killed her a long time ago? Because she was some sort of social worker who came to take "Dana" back, who they stole from someone else when they lived in Ohio (was it Ohio?) Well, 4 more shows & we'll know.
Oh. And I? Hate Carlos & Gabrielle. They are annoying me immensely as of late.

Her son's sexual orientation is not the reason he won't be going to heaven, if such a place exists. It is the fact that he ran over a woman with his car and could care less. That is one reason I find the Christian faith ridiculous. A murderer who repents his sins will live eternal life but a homosexual man who spent his life doing good things for people will burn in the fiery pits of hell? That is just ****ed up and not logical whatsoever.

I like Grey's Anatomy, but I think it's only because I like Katherine Heigl (the underwear model), I want Patrick Dempsey to be my lovah (/Molly Shannon voice), and I have had the biggest girl crush on Ellen Pompeo for several years.

Yep. And I think it sucks. I mean, it'll be cool to have so many next year, but they might have to put it in another timeslot, which I'm not down with, and I hate having to wait so long.
I guess the last episode they aired was a good one to go out with- the awesome death penalty case. I'm still a crabby patty about it, though.

Alfre Woodard Gets Desperate
Roll out the welcome mat- Desperate Housewives is a getting a new neighbor: Alfre Woodard, who'll play a single mom relocating to Wisteria Lane. "She'll be central to the prevailing mystery next season." I just want to know where she'll stand in the new cast photo.
