OK, we've seen the Rumours-era Lindsey, with all the afro and facial hair. We've seen the Tusk-era spastic Lindsey, quirks fully in the forefront punctuated by the gray suit. Then comes farmer Lindsey of the Mirage era, mad-genius Lindsey from Go Insane, I'd-rather-not-be-here-who-forced-me-to-pose-in-these-stupid-videos Lindsey of Tango, followed by trim and energetic Cradle Lindsey. Then we have ghost Lindsey (disappears for four years). Then comes expanded-waistband Lindsey of the Dance with the ready smile and philosophical dissertations. Finally, we get I'm-still-that-spastic-guy-from-the-Tusk-days-even-though-my-hair-is-graying Lindsey.
For me it's a toss-up. I like the quirky Tusk and the farmer Lindseys. They're both pretty spastic and most entertaining to watch.
:D
ehmm... top three:
1. "Tusk-era spastic Lindsey, quirks fully in the forefront punctuated by the gray suit" or "Mari wishes she was a teenager in the seventies and could've been at a Fleetwood Mac-concert back then-Lindsey"
2. "Trim and Energetic Cradle Lindsey" or "Look, I can make a great album ánd tour without the mac ánd be happy with it- Lindsey" ;)
3. "I'm-still-that-spastic-guy-from-the-Tusk-days-even-though-my-hair-is-graying Lindsey" "50-something putting more energy&soul into music than a lot of twenty-somethings could-Lindsey"

Then comes farmer Lindsey of the Mirage era!   I like that description and that is probably my favorite Lindsey!
Closer runners up are Current Graying Lindsey, Tusk Lindsey and OOTC Lindsey.
Never cared for the facial hair era or the Glammed up hair and eyeliner days of Insane and Tango though his music throughout that time is outstanding!!!!

Personally, I don't think Lindsey's ever been as hot as he was from 1973-1978.
All of that unruly, chestnut brown hair, framing his face and accentuating his blue eyes....
But he's looking pretty hot again these days, I have to say.
For some weird reason, all of the in-between years did nothing for me.
Did I answer the question?

I loved LB with the eyeliner and erasurehead hair, which was kind of from Tusk to 1990

Wow, Johnny, so you like 'em hairy? Go figure. My wife keeps telling me to get rid of my goatee.
I think Lindsey looks wonderful now, but I do like that spastic Tusk Lindsey. Absolutely love that stage presence.

I know - he had that staccato movement down in the Tusk tour

Very funny Carne, well written!
Well I must admit that I can`t stand the 73-78 look. The worst is the BN cover imo. I don`t like beards- you see no face then. So the Tusk look was a huge improvement after that. Personally I think he looked really extremely cool in the 1987-92 era. Btw I like the Big love video pretty much, in fact that was the reason I became a fan back in 87. O.K. the "I try to lipsynch but it doesn't work out and the video director doesn't notice it or doesn't care"- thing esp on Little lies is a little funny. But WTH

I would have to go with Farmer Lindsey. Farmer Lindsey is where it's at. Of course, the only live action knowledge I have of this form of Lindsey is from that video they put out of the Mirage tour that I can't even remember how I got, but oh, I do adore it. Nothin' like watching him moaning and groaning to "Not That Funny" in a cowboy hat.
Second place would have to be The Dance Lindsey, with the nice black shirts unbuttoned just a little further than is usual, and the soft voice he uses on "Behind the Music" and the sort of calmness that had seem to set over him for that period. That is the Lindsey I fell for, after all.
You didn't mention the ever-so-slightly pudgy, almost-but-not-quite-fro days of Law and Order. ;)
I'm not quite so fond of the James Taylor-ish (long hair, no beard) BN look either, but he was a beautiful curly-haired boy between 75-78. I also heavily favor the Tusk thing, the Mirage thing, the Cradle thing and the now thing. I enjoy a good spaz. :D

Les, I figured the L&O period was just a transitional Lindsey period, from Tusk spaz to farmer Lindsey.
In the Cradle period, he seemed a bit gaunt to me. I worried about his health.
No one has picked ghost Lindsey yet, huh?

True that. His hair particularly was in a serious transitional phase. ;)

I think I was more worried during Tango. He was so awfully thin then, and clearly not a happy camper to boot. I guess his overall enthusiasm during the Cradle period overshadowed everything else to me.

My wife keeps telling me to get rid of my goatee.
In my best Queer Eye voice, "Goatees are SO 90's!" ;-)
As for my LB preference, they're ALL good! I'm not a facial hair person myself, but I'm willing to let that slide. And those "no lips" of his, same thing.

My faves are:
Mirage era LB, in which he had the SMOKIN' HOT 5 o'clock shadow. YUM! Farmer Lindsey...LMAO!! I could say something dirty, but I'll be an  instead. LOL ;)
Late Tusk era (like in that pic from Ebay I linked on the Rumours board), with the fluffy, but not huge fro a la my avatar.
Tango, like in the Little Lies and Seven Wonders videos.
Now....good gravy, is he frickin sexy or what?
In terms of entertaining, I love the Mirage video...he was so into playing around with the audience, touching their hands and making faces and stuff.
The Tusk era was greatness too, as that tour was just ON!
This tour is awesome too, he is AMAZING to see live!! I am so blessed to have seen him 6 times! He keeps ya (pardon the pun) hypnotized. :)

Rumours era Lindsey (Afro boy! ) was the best! I thought he looked coolest there. A very close second would be the Tusk era.

Lindsey was at his tastiest with the beard and 'fro circa 1975 - towards the end of '77 the 'fro was taking on a life of its own, lol. I really like short Lindseyan beards. They're so masculine and edgy.
OOTC comes in second - he started out a little thin but as the tour progressed, he filled out a little and let his curls get a little more unruly. His hotness once again went through the roof.
If we could average just-a-tad-heavy Dance Lindsey with just-a-tad-skinny SYW Lindsey, we'd have the perfect size for LB, and third place for hotness! lol I do wish he'd dye his hair, though. Takes years off one's age.
The eighties were a bad time for Lindsey. We start out with the New Wave wanna be in ill-fitting suits and makeup (although "natural" Tusk doc Lindsey sans makeup and in a tight T-shirt and tight jeans is quite delicious, he choose not to go with that onstage!)
Law and Order - our man had gotten a little too heavy, which I'm afraid does affect one's position on the hotness scale. :( "Farmer Lindsey," or, as I like to call him, "Gilligan," looks plain silly. Eraserhead.... shoot, do I even need to expain why I don't like that look? lol
Lindsey's found a good style for him now - the jeans, the button-up shirt (thank goodnes he surrendered the Hanes T-shirt). His hair, well, I understand his motivations for growing it that high, and hey, he makes it work, lol. He's still hot enough to make me scream for him!

Gerald, I think I am going to keep it for a while. It does make me look a little older, though.
Does Lindsey intentionally create an image for each of these iterations?

Definitely the in-need-of-ritalin Tusk Lindsey. He was the energetic poster boy for the department of special education back then. Very entertaining and very creative.
The toher great Lindsey was the Cradle Lindsey. He was just positively glowing with happiness and it showed in his performances. I totally dug him. :D

*covers eyes*
He let it grow all the up to his freakin' chin, though! It covered his adams apple and totally grossed me out. Looked like he was related to Sasquatch. ;)
You know you've reached the pinnacle of fandom if you find yourself analyzing Lindsey's chest hair.
I'm definitely on the not-liking-Rumours-and-earlier-Lindsey train.
My top 3?
3. Tango Lindsey - He had done away with the full Eraserhead cut but still had good hair and was definitely dressing sharp.
2. Tusk Lindsey - Both the beginning and then end of the tour are all good. I mainly like it because it was so drastically different that Rumours and really fitted the direction his music took.
1. Without a doubt, OOTC Lindsey - In my opinion, it does not get better and Lindsey does not get hotter than this. 3 words for you: Soul. Drifter. Video. Sepia tones were freaking made for this man. Sooooooooooo hot.

Yeah, that Jeff Lynne afro is pretty sexy.
Seriously, there's something strangely appealing about it. He's hot no matter how you slice it.
I think I prefer Tusk Lindsey, he looks hot in short hair, and oh, did I mention that I think Tusk is an AMAZING album that he produced, played on, wrote,...did he engineer that sucker too?
Tusk Lindsey rules.

There's something exquisitely masculine about a guy with curly/wavy hair, and a hairy chest.
Ok, I'll stop now... I'm drooling like Homer Simpson. :)

I enjoy all of his "looks" (his hair was so tall during the mid 80's "eyeliner phase" it looked like cotton candy atop a frosted cake, which I can still find attractive, even if in an affectionately amused manner. I think it was at its tallest at the Band Aid session!), but his curent mad scientist hair suits him very well. He is, after all, a Mad Musical Scientist. The Tusk hair looked a bit like a helmet, but still hot. Just the idea of the drastic shift in his look from Rumours to Tusk is hot. Like the Tusk suits. Mirage Farmer is hot, but does anyone else think he looked facially bloated on this tour? Does anyone know why? Perhaps a medication side-effect or something. I enjoy the '73-'78 hair and beard. I would definitely not want him to have that hair now, but it's so suiting of the times and I like the idea of touching the masses of soft curls.;) If I had to pick, I'd say my least favorite hair is Law And Order.

I agree with Johnny. Lindsey was very hot during the mid seventies. Afro Lindsey is definitely my favorite. I also really find him sexy now. I not too fond of his Law and Order hairdo. That's probably my least favorite period of Lindsey.

Yes, it makes me a little older, too. That's actually why my girlfriend WANTS me with goatee! Without I look like a 38-year-old 25-year-old!
And lindsey? I think he created a LOOK for every era. Not really an image. And his spasms were always there. Although out of control in the Tusk-era. (and mirage). You'll catch him bouncing around this summer....and I'm jealous........

Yum!
And these days, when Buckingham's shirt becomes sweat-drenched, it clings to his firm 'n fit 20-something body! I like that! And I love it unbuttoned a little further than usual, too, just so he's comfortable when he's working hard on stage! ;)
I find ALL of Lindsey's images appealing, but looking at DVDs of concerts passed, I've never seen him quite as sexy on stage as he is now! He could maybe add a few curls near his kissable forehead, but I'm not complaining. The Buck is HOT-looking!
He has become the quintessential front man. The guitar virtuoso is still highly energized for each concert, unlike most performing rock musicians half his age!
Lindsey Buckingham is the one master singer-guitarist the stellar hall-of-fame rock band can't gig without! :)

I love the Tusk/Mirage tour movements (and stage presence) a lot myself. I just think a lot of them are funny and do not go overtly with the "rock God" of the current tour.
I think his movements in the Mirage tour video, while less spontaneous than Stevie's, are more interesting to watch than what SN does. But then again that girl does kick butt in the Red Rocks video, even with all the editing. ;)

lindsey in tight jeans, definitely! shirt unbuttoned low, absolutely!
his hottest looking periods? mmmmmm. "mirage" when he'd shake all that hair with his cute & quirky movements, his romantic "dance" period and NOW!
well I don’t go for the eyeliner and demonic stares he gave the audience during the “tusk" era. he has more stage presence and is handsome currently even if he decides to just stand there because his guitar playing has become, well, metaphysical! :) :) :) :) :)
