For those of you that missed it I am posting this here. I also want to give a big thank you to Nancy at BuckinghamNicks.net for giving me a home while I was orphaned.:wavey:
I went to the show last night by myself. There was no ticket release, so I ended up getting tickets through a broker. I was 2nd row cneter, slightly right of Stevie's mic. I decided since this will probably be the last show I see on this tour that I wanted to get Linsdey to sign Buckingham Nicks for me. So I brought it and a Sharpie with me.
I got there a little early. The place was packed to the rafters. A lot of people hadn't taken their seats yet. I spot this girl in the front row with perfect positioning in front of Lindsey and I go over and ask her if she would be so kind as to pass the record to him after the first encore. She's a little unsure but she says "Okay, I'll try." Another woman approaches me and says "If you get her to sign that, I'll give you $200." I say "She won't sign it but he will" and refuse her offer. Steve Rinkov is out in front of the stage and at one point I noticed him talking to "Doc", Doctor Buzz who treats all the bands that come through Denver.
The lights go down and The Chain starts. Everybody looks great. Lindsey and I make eye contact and sing the "If you don't love me now" part back and forth ala the way he and Steive did it in The Mirage tour video. It was so fun! Now Dreams. Here's where I noticed something wasn't quite right. During Dreams, Lindsey sings the "women they will come and they will go" part with/to Stevie with a weird, pained expression on his face. I was thinking "What's that about?"
I was sitting next to two slightly tipsy, very nice folks from Longmont. On the other side of them there was a 5'1" 300 pound drunk and her girlfreind of matching proportions, only slightly taller and not as drunk. The short one was staggering back and forth like a listing ship four feet in either direction for the duration of the show. The band notices. At one point "Mr. Security Guard" (in commando pants, no less) comes over to this sweet girl in a top hat and Rhiannon regalia who is just standing at Stevie's feet and makes her move. (?) I watch Stevie and Lindsey eyes dart back and forth to this situation.
I think there may have been some sound issues. There was a false start during Come. Lindsey keeps looking over at the guy at the mixing board to his left. During Stand Back, after the first verse, La Nicks turned to the sound engineer and yelled "Up!" gesturing with both hands. There was some serious leg shown during this song. Mama was on fire last night, taking the mic down for the end of Rhiannon, doing the side kick and just generally wailing all over the place. She sang some extra lyrics at the end of Gyspy which I can't for the life of me remember now. I was relieved because she has problems here sometimes due to the high altitude. SHE WAS ON. She dedicated Landslide to a freind of hers and then told a private joke between her and Lindsey that I missed because my silghty tipsy seat nieghbor leans over and goes "I think there's still something going on with them." John McVie gave me a little smile, as did Sharon Celani. Brett Tuggle was rather subdued last night, not his ususal Mr. Flirty self. Love you guys, I'm going to miss you.
Now for Lindsey. He played a note perfect show and did all the things he usually does but something is not right with him. This was not the man I saw in Chicago a month ago, or all summer for that matter. I don't know if he was feeling a little run down, mind you his performance was perfect but his vibe is off.
After GYOW, I tell my seat neighbors it's time to hand Buckingham Nicks to Susie. They let me switch places with them and I hand the record to Susie and now I'm standing right next to "Drunky" who is doing a marvelous drunken interpretive dance that almost puts my eye out at one point. A few minutes later, I notice a space next to me and the thing is on the floor. Seriously folks, on the floor. At this point I start to eyeball Mr. Commando Pants like, "WTF?" He just looks at me. He only wants to pick on little waify Rhiannon girls, not 300 pound drunk heifers.
During Silver Springs, before I passed B/N up, I held it up and pointed to Lindsey and made a signing motion. He nods. So after World Turning he walks over to Susie and signs Buckingham Nicks for me (on the back cover ). I am ecstatic. Susie hands it back to me and I thank her profusely. The band starts playing Don't Stop. At the end of Don't Stop, Lindsey wipes his face with a big white towel ( the first, little black towel was handed to a girl in the front row earlier) and throws it to me, which I catch with my right hand as I am still holding Buckingham Nicks with my left ( I am left handed). A few people tug but let go becuase I caught it fair and square. I almost literally get pulled over. Next thing I know, in a moment of drunken clarity, Drunky lurches against me grabbing the towel slurring "You got the autograph." I hold on for dear life, no 300 pound drunk is a match for my sober ass. Then she enlists her 300 pound girlfreind and they are both pulling on the towel and my arm, nearly breaking my arm. I let go.| Lindsey is watching all of this as Goodbye Baby has already started. I turn my attention to Stevies beautiful song and give LB and Stevie and thumbs up and "thank you." Now for the really funny part. After the bows Lindsey starts doing an imitation drunken stagger, looks over at Stevie and she does it too! They do it a couple of times and laugh. They're goofing on the drunk that stole my towel! It was so f**king cool!
