11. “WHEEL IN THE SKY” “This has become a classic Journey song, and I like the whole vibe of it. I remember I came up with this song after listening to a Fleetwood Mac record. We were on the road, and [Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album] Rumours had just been released. I was checking out some of Lindsey Buckingham’s fingerpicking stuff, and it kind of stuck with me. Sometimes things just rub off. I’ll remember a bit of something I like, take it and make it my own.”

Thanks for posting this. Journey is one of my top five favorite bands so it is great to hear that the Mac influenced them in some way

That's amazing. I never had any clue that there was any relationship between "Rumours" & this song. I guess Neal doesn't necessarily mean that there's a musical relationship between the two, only that Lindsey's fingerpicking on "Rumours" gave Neal enough of a kick to pull this Journey anthem together. And the times definitely overlap. "Rumours" was popular among the college kids & the adults, & "Wheel in the Sky" -- especially on the Journey live album at the time -- was a stirring anthem among teenagers, who spent those summers at big outdoor stadiums & indoor sports arenas watching grandiose rock concerts like Journey & KISS.

I just played live versions of "World Turning" and "Wheel in the Sky" side by side(thank you YouTube) and I hear an aesthetic similarity.
