Default Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis recording new solo record

Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis has sidelined her band obligations for a minute to work on another solo album. For the past few weeks, Lewis and a team of Los Angeles cohorts, including singer-songwriter-boyfriend Johnathan Rice, Interpol touring player "Farmer Dave" Scher, and Rilo producer Jason Larder, have been logging full days at Sound City studios in the San Fernando Valley, where Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedoes and Nirvana's Nevermind were recorded. The all-analog sessions also saw several famous friends drop by to lend a hand with guest vocals, among them Zooey Deschanel, the Black Crowes' Chris Robinson, M. Ward, and Elvis Costello, who duets with Lewis on one track. A source who's heard the record says, "It all sounds super natural, nice, and simple. Like it doesn't belong in any decade. It's just timeless.

I know, right?

there are a couple of tracks on RFC that I love, but most of them seem like filler to me.

btw, who the hell is zooey deschanel?

omg! Even without Jenny, that line-up is awesome. I'm loving Jenny on the new Gary Louris album too.

Btw, I think Rilo are definitely over, IMO. She ran pretty quickly back to her solo career, and to be fair Rabbit Fur Coat was waaaaaay better than the last Rilo album.

Speaking of Zooey, her album with M. Ward is coming out soon too, and I'm pretty excited for that as well.

really? I loved the last album. I know a lot of fans didn't really care for it and it's got it's share of things I don't like, but there's a cuteness (I know I'll get stoned for saying that) to even the stuff I don't like.

Dejalo anyone?

Dejalo always reminds me of Gloria Estefan.

I think half of Blacklight is awesome and half of it is filler.
I can't wait for the new Jenny solo album though

Yep, it's out in May!

Pitchfork asked Tom Waits what he thought and he was actually okay about it:

Pitchfork: I'm sure you know Scarlett Johannson is recording an album of your songs?

Tom Waits: Well no, I read about it in the paper.

Pitchfork: No one consulted you beforehand?

Tom Waits: No, no. But, you know, more power to her.

Pitchfork: Are you excited to hear it?

Tom Waits: I don't know if I'm excited to hear it, but I'm curious. People make songs so that somebody else will hear them and want to do them. I guess it's an indication that the songs aren't so ultra-personal that they can't possibly be interpreted by anyone else. I've seen her in movies. I don't know what she's going to do with the tunes. When you get a hold of somebody else's song, you make it your own. That's all you can do. And that usually requires a certain amount of tailoring. Cut the sleeves off, lay some buttons. Everybody does something different to a song, that's the tradition.
