Default CNN, Grace sued over a mom's suicide

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...5baf4ce5ad4002

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Relatives of a missing boy's mother who killed herself after aggressive questioning by CNN's Nancy Grace sued the network and the talk-show host Tuesday, claiming Grace caused emotional distress that led to the suicide.

Melinda Duckett committed suicide Sept. 8, a day after Grace's show on CNN Headline News aired a segment in which Grace grilled Duckett about her whereabouts Aug. 27 -- the day 2-year-old Trenton Duckett was reported missing.

Authorities, who said last week they believe the boy is alive, have named Melinda Duckett as the prime suspect in his disappearance.

Jay Paul Deratany, the attorney representing Duckett's estate, said Tuesday that Grace encouraged Duckett to appear on her show by saying the goal was to draw public attention to help find Trenton.

"It's not just about the questioning, it's about the misrepresentation with the knowledge that she was emotionally distraught," Deratany said. The attorney said Grace improperly took on the role of a law enforcement officer.

CNN Headline News declined to comment specifically on the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages.

"We stand by Nancy Grace and fully support her, as we have from the beginning of this matter," a spokeswoman said in a news release Tuesday.

this is such b*s, i have followed this case forever, the mother who commited suicide from what i have seen/read is now the only suspect in her son's dissappearance/possible death & now that she off'd herself no one will ever be able to put he little son trenton to rest~ do i think nancy grace was some what aggressive during her show w/ this chick?, yes i do, but even my gut feeling was that this girl was so out of line & guilty that i don't think it crossed any lines~

I heard recently where they now know that the kid is still alive and living with relatives (?). So there was something shadey going on... as if that wasn't apparent before.

Sure Nancy Grace's technique may have been improper, HOWEVER, she is not a counselor of any sorts and in this era of "instant celebrity", people go on any kind of tv for exposure.
One can not blame someone for how another responds to anything.
NG didn't help the situation... but she sure can't be blamed for another's actions either.

I don't care for NG.
I do not think anyone is "responsible" for the actions of others..BUT..she needs to be held accountable for her actions...this may serve as a good life lesson.

innocent until proven guilty tho and thats for the courts to decide. I don't think it's ok to treat her with that aggression just cause she or the public had a gut feeling she might have been guilty

This infuriates me. It's such a waste of time lawsuit.

Does this mean now that when a dude kills himself after his girlfriend breaks up with him...that SHE'S responsible? This would set a horrible precedent IMO.

AND I'm sorry but Nancy Grace was NOT responsible for this woman's suicide. Like PsychCat said, "One can not blame someone for how another responds to anything."

Her "interview" techniques are horrid - but ultimately she is NOT responsible for this woman's death.
