Default Cindy Sheehan arrested before SOTU

Tuesday, January 31

Peace activist Sheehan arrested before Bush's State of the Union

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Cindy Sheehan, the vocal anti-war activist whose son was killed in the Iraq war, was arrested Tuesday night on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, shortly before President Bush was to deliver his State of the Union address, U.S. Capitol Police said.

A senior House official said Sheehan was seated in the House chamber when she unfolded an anti-war banner and was apprehended. This official said she was taken for questioning for about an hour in a separate area of the House.

"She was arrested within the Capitol complex," a Capitol Hill officer told CNN.

Sheehan had been invited to attend the speech as a guest of Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., who has called for a withdrawal for Iraq and supported legislation for a Department of Peace. (Posted 9:03 p.m.)

That's pathetic. I'm sure Bush squirmed to know she was a guest. Another BOR squashed.

Why bother even with the SOTU? I don't want to hear or see him move his lips. Can't we just get the transcript emailed or posted? Can't the camera just shoot the teleprompter?

The Bush minions will applaud and cheer.

Meanwhile...I need to use the bathroom.

Yes, we, as Americans, are addicted to oil.

I saw that headline and decided not to watch his blubbering speech.

They announced that she was being "detained" but not arrested.

I can't watch this anymore. I wish they would do away with the constant applause- it's so distracting and time consuming. But, I know, this is his big night to feel popular and liked.

I was going to go down to Union Square to the protest. but alas have a touch of the flu.I'm listening to his droning speech but can't bring myself to look at his smirking .lying mug.If he had even a modicum of class or cojones he would have let Cindy in and finally answered her question.

I agree, it's pathetic and would cause a even bigger media backlash IMO.

What a big boy he is.

Mrs. Sheehan was wearing a t-shirt when she took off her coat that had the number of soldiers killed in Iraq on it. So they arrested her. There was no banner.

And so the right wing Bush police state continues. Even as he defends wire tapping and the Patriot act from inside the forum..Chilling.

I thought he looked crazier than ever this evening-and his words were slurrier. I don't know what else to say anymore.

"The T-shirt bore the words “2,245 Dead — How Many More??” in reference to the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq, protesters told NBC News."
