There's very few Stevie songs I actively dislike. I'm in the minority that thouroughly enjoye her "Behind The Mask" contributions and can see the good album burried in "Street Angel".

The only Mac-stinker of Stevie's tracks for me is "When I See You Again". It's a dull song anyway with a horrific vocal. She sounds like an old Hoover or a bagpipe!

Solo wise, I have a short list of stinkers:

Long Distance Winner
The Nightmare
Fire Burning
Thousand Days
Docklands
Jane
Just Like A Woman (good song, snooze fest of a cover!)
Unconditional Love (how the hell this was ever going to be a lead single, I do not know!)
Touched by an Angel
Cheaper Than Free
Most of 24KG, but specifically: I Don't Care, Mable Normand, Carousel, Blue Water (love the demo, hate the studio version!), Hard Advice.

I love the songs that seem to get all the hate - The Second Time, Paper Doll, No Questions Asked, Silver Girl, Greta, That Made Me Stronger etc etc.

I love all of those :O. Incidentally, BD, your signature pic was made by yours truly like a million years ago on one of SortaSavageLike's caption threads. Those were hilarious. I still have the original on my laptop (somewhere!) along with a few others I made with the same simple-ass green Microsoft Paint font job. My computer skills have improved since then lol.

There's some others I don't care for (the "Wild Heart"/"Sweet Girl"/"Secret Love" level) or some that I kind of enjoy but think have real weaknesses ("Nothing Ever Changes"/"Street Angel"/"Silver Girl" and so on), but maybe I wouldn't call those stinky.
I love all those too!

No problemo! I'll try and dig out a few more for you. There were some seriously classic caption moments in those threads.

I like the song "Somebody Stand By Me" but Stevie's vocal is not my favorite. Still, I don't hate it.

I liked Stevie on Behind the Mask as well, more so than most of that record, and Street Angel doesn't bother me as much as it bothers most others. I like listening to it better than The Other Side of The Mirror and Rock a Little.

I love "I Don't Care"

I don't think you need to like everything they've ever done to be a fan, especially not with such a long career. And if you are a mature listener with some of your own discernment and you know that nobody's perfect.

I agree with the first list. Apart from HAEWAFY I think Rock A Little was very ordinary and so were the follow ups.

Stevie herself would likely admit that wasn't her best era. You have to consider what she was going through at the time.

Fortunately she was able to get through that and make a return to better form.

Edit: and now it seems like she once said that 'Other Side Of The Mirror' is probably her favorite album because the songs were written before she was on Klonopin. Sometimes I find it difficult to understand her taste and judgment. I hated the Twilight books and movies, for example. But I suppose that she's entitled to like what she wants to.

I either love or really like all of these songs.

"Long Way To Go" is borderline
"Two Kinds of Love"
These two mediocre at best. Not a big fan of OSOTM...
Quote:
"Ooh My Love"
...but despite that, I really love this song.
Quote:
"Whole Lotta Trouble"
Pretty dang good.
Quote:
"Alice"
More OSOTM mediocrity.
Quote:
"Unconditional Love"
"Jane"
Flat-out terrible songs.
Quote:
"One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star"
Kinda underrated.
Quote:
"Every Day"
Meh.
Quote:
"That Made Me Stronger"
"Love Is"
Really good.
Quote:
"Say You Will"
Really, really good.
Quote:
"New Orleans"
"Cheaper Than Free"
Decent.

Adore all three of these.

I like all three, but I don't quite love them.

I think rock n' roll Stevie is her worst stuff, the allure and mystique are destroyed and her vocals shabby. She shines in ballads which showcase her real vocal and songwriting abilities, or in certain well produced midtempo things.

Her best rock n' roll song is always going to be Edge Of Seventeen.

You make a very valid point, her area is ballads, she has a perfect voice for it, and I think Beauty and the Beast is a good example of that.

Screwing up a Dylan song is criminal.
