Default Some random thoughts about UTS

I've been listening to UTS for the last few days and I feel like sharing. First a disclaimer ; If you are someone who loves everything Lindsey does, I hope you wont be offended by anything I say because overall I really like the cd. There are songs I really love and others I have issues with, but I kinda wanted to go a little more in depth and hopefully start a conversation about the songs.

Not Too Late - I like the music on this one, but I cant get into the lyrics. The chorus is good but the verses make me cringe. To me it is like Lindsey's Silver Girl (way too much navel gazing going on) Note to Lindsey : No it is not too late but please stop reading your own reviews.

Show You How - This song is catchy but nothing special or memorable about it.

Under The Skin - Good lyrics on this one - his voice is a little weird but everything else works

I Am Waiting - I am totally in love with this song. I have never heard the original but Lindsey makes this his own and shines. His guitar playing is breathtaking ( and not in a Seinfeld kinda way )

It Was You - I actually like this one. The lyrics are a little generic but it is a fun song and i like his voice on it. I think it seems a little out of place because it is surrounded my more intense songs, if I was picking the order I would have put it right after SYH

To Try For The Sun - Another excellent cover - I like how his voice gets high on the chorus and the way he sings mirror mirror in the sky

Cast Away Dreams - This is another favorite - so melodic you cant help but love it.

Shut Us Down - I listened to this song on my computer when the movie came out and didnt pay much attention to it. When I heard it on this cd something just clicked and now I am addicted to it. The lyrics are the best Lindsey has ever written and just something about the way he sings the lines really get to me (Its hard to explain I just have Big Love for this song) Some people are turned off by his vocals on this but to me its like he is whispering into the listeners ear. Amazing

Down On Rodeo - Good music, good lyrics solid and accessible Lindsey

Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind - Loved this one ever since I heard it on GOS - powerful and intense

Juniper - I dont really like this one, it seems kinda redundant coming right after SGCYM - which contains the words juniper and children - would have liked to have a different song here.

I like the inclusion of SG on the B&N cd, it fits in and sounds great

This is my new favorite LB solo ( It used to be Go Insane )

That is how I feel, wether you agree or disagree I would love to hear your breakdown of the songs

I haven't been able to find UTS yet (haven't looked, actually), but I'm a little iffy on what I've heard so far. Shut us Down grates on my nerves. I like Castaway Dreams, but I think my favourite is definitely Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind. I didn't pay too much attention to it when he performed it on Soundstage, but the UTS version has totally stuck with me. Great song.

So, Juniper isn't up to par? I've never heard it, but it looks like it should be a good song. You know how some titles just appear to be really promising?

My random thought - is it just me, or does "Try For The Sun" sound like the bastard child of "Red Rover" and Stevie's version of the Johnny Cash tune "I Still Miss Someone?" I know LB didn't write it, but every time I hear it, the guitar style sounds very similar to Rover & the melody of the verses reminds me of ISMS.

y'all might want to go over to iTunes and write some reviews there. UTS needs a positive push there.

Nancy confirmed that in this thread:

I read somewhere he changed it very slightly.. Not really co-written.

I certainly wouldn't give him a lot of credit for the lyrics.

I like the lyrics to Castaway Dreams. Can be interpretted in many many ways.

I don't have UTS, so I'm not sure how it's credited on that. On her website, though, it's referred to as "Cory's song, Shut Us Down, performed by Lindsey Buckingham..."

In any case, the lyrics are beautiful.
