If Buckingham Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie weren't self-titled albums...
What would you have named them? Long Distance Winner, Landslide, Got a Hold on Me?
Here's another question not related to the thread topic: If the Tusk album had sold the same or even more than Rumours, do you think that the Mirage album would have turned out differently? It seems that Warner Bros. sort of pushed the band back into a box when it came time to make that album. |

(since John is playing a midget looking UP at the crystal ball on the cover; plus the title song was the lead single off the album) Christine McVie - One In A Million (a very UN-Christine like title would've been perfect (yes, pun intended) Buckingham Nicks - Without A Leg To Stand On (they're photographed from chest up; but, I don't think EITHER of them have the type of humor that would let that title go out.) Buckingham Nicks becomes Frozen Love Fleetwood Mac becomes I Need a Sugar Daddy nah, how about Who's to Say What's Right? - I kind of like the idea of naming an album after the line of a song, rather than adopting a song title as the name of an LP as was done with TITN, BTM and SYW. Particularly in the context of Fleetwood Mac I think posing the question, "Who's to Say What's Right?" as an album title in 1975 would have been very appropriate. Christine McVie becomes Love Will Show us How Now, the perceived commercial failure of Tusk...the album really wasn't a failure, unless your previous album was a mega-seller and your band name was Fleetwood Mac! But I think the fact that it sold poorly in comparison to Rumours definitely influenced the musical direction Fleetwood Mac took from that point on, and the 1982 project that is Mirage suffered as result, in my view. I believe Say You Will is the closest Fleetwood Mac has come to pushing the envelope and trying anything truly alternative in sound since Tusk...and I give Lindsey most of the credit for that (let's not discount Stevie's "Illume"). Christine really did hold the band together as a writer and studio singer/player with her efforts on Mirage, Tango in the Night, Behind the Mask and Time. I dislike Lindsey's contributions to Mirage except Eyes of the World (though I do get a chuckle out of his Elvis-y voice on Oh Diane lol). I do appreciate his TITN work...however, the fact is he wasn't there for two albums, because he did not want to be. Last edited by secret love; 09-08-2013 at 10:14 PM.. |
