I dunno...$200/night is the going rate these days for even lower-end hotels. I just stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn for Pete's sake that cost just about $300/night after taxes and fees. This for a hotel with no room service, no pool, and a pretty meh breakfast buffet for which they even charge you an extra $12.95. Nice vacation hotels (Mandarin, Four Seasons, Fairmont, Ritz) get about $300 a night for their cheapest double bed rooms, so frankly $1500 a night for an entire house that sleeps 8 is pretty damn good. The point in Maui is to escape the hustle and bustle. I'm surprised he isn't asking more.
