Default What if American Idol did Fleetwood Mac night?

I've never been much into American Idol in the past, but somehow I really got sucked in this season. They do nights dedicated to certain artists every few weeks (last night was Carole King night, for example) and it got me to thinking - what if they did a FM night?
I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. As I posted in the thread about Glee, I'm extremely critical of cover songs, especially if they're songs that I love and that are important to me. I think I'd be excited at the whole concept of a FM night, but maybe not so much at the performances themselves.
I don't know. How would other people feel about it?

I'd be ok with it.

There's one girl this season, Haley is her name. She's got some chops, man. She could pull off Stevie a'la 1975 without any trouble whatsoever. I keep waiting for the Stevie comparison from Jimmy Iovine, but he hasn't gone there yet.

I think it'd be great... as long as James Durbin is eliminated before it

I would imaging the publicity would be great, especialy if FM were considering an new album.
The could do a few Little "About the Band" extras during the show. the audience would be like oh fleetwood mac sing that song, oh my god they sing that one too, no way is that them as well..... boy FM sure do have a lot of great songs

Maybe even FM could open it with the Chain Live on Telly......

Good idea to set it as a Fleetwood Mac night, I mean entire catalogue, and not an album, who would probably be Rumours if they choose one.

Much like the Glee episode, I think that a American Idol "Mac" themed episode would be great publicity for them.

Hopefully the contestants wouldn't all choose songs from Rumours.

For some reason both my parents hate Haley and think she sucks, which completely boggles my mind. I think she's great. Very powerful voice.
I think she could really do a strong, crazy version of Rhiannon, kind of like the Rosebud version.

Is that the girl that keeps waving her hands all around during every freakin' song! Cause I find that soooo annoying!

I agree with your parents. Hayley is a shrieker -- not as bad as the godawful Pia, who was voted off a few weeks ago -- but still harsh on the ears.

Why these young female singers think they need to shriek and add in all those extra notes is beyond me. Lauren, the other remaining girl, is a much better SINGER. She has real tone to her voice.

Fleetwood Mac had two women in the band who could really sing, not just vocalize. Neither was a shrieker, and neither relied on adding in extraneous non-melody notes (the two sins of today's divas); and Christine especially had that quality that can't be learned, plain old good vocal tone.

To answer the original question, I think it'd be great for 'Idol' to have a FM night. Since there have been so many musical styles in FM during its history, the kids could pick a song that suited their musical style. It could be blues, it could be psychedelia, it could be soft rock, it could be melodic rock, it could even be country(ish).
