1993 Tour

Lindsey just posted a couple of pictures from his OOTC tour. (And no recent info of the new album yet). I was checking the average setlist of that year, and that was a concert I would have liked to go. Does anybody have some info, comments to share about that tour?

That was a good setlist. Except for leaving off Countdown!

I wasn’t there, but I can’t imagine he performed Big Love like the album version- I’m sure it was performed the way he performed it on the Dance.

Big Love was performed like The Dance version.

I was at the Atlanta show. It's still my favorite concert of all time, and I've been to hundreds. Big Love was the acoustic version, but from my memory, that was the first time he played it live and it was jaw dropping. He had an amazing band featuring an extra 4 guitarists with him being the 5th. That was my first time seeing him, so it was very special. I still have the tour shirt I bought from the show. There's a bootleg of the Atlanta show on YouTube. The quality not very good, but considering the technology at the time it at least gives you an idea what it was like. PBS had just released the Centerstage concert and I tried not to watch it much before the show so I would be surprised. The actual concert was much looser and much better than the PBS concert, but it's great to have a recorded show with that band. He was very nervous.

A few notes:
As noted above, Big Love was the Dance acoustic version. He recited a poem between Big Love and the acoustic version of Go Insane. The Atlanta concert included Doing What I Can (the only time it was played until his most recent tour). He performed two nights at San Juan Capistrano in December 1992. One night (or could have been the best selections from both nights) was a radio concert (good quality). There is a bootleg of the second night (also soundboard) that included the live version of Wrong (only time that has been performed live - link below). I was able to obtain original PBS and VH1 versions of the Chicago concert (also December 1992) and produce an extended cut of the concert posted on my You Tube channel. Link below:

While he never played the ensemble version of Soul Drifter or Countdown on tour, he played them on Letterman. Links below:

I'm 99% positive that it's tracks he's playing with on Soul Drifter. Okay, I'm wrong. Make that 100%.

Why would he be nervous? After years of experience, even with a new band, hard to believe he would be nervous.

It may have been because these were some of his first solo shows. He had left the band and considered himself a solo artist at this point. Plus, I don't think he played many live shows between 82-93, which is a long time not to be performing live. I remember he played on 2 songs on one of the BTM shows. Other than that I don't remember him playing live. I just remember his hands noticeably shaking at times when he wasn't playing.

He did play "Never Going Back Again" and "I'm So Afraid" for the Tough On Toxins Benefit concert in 1986. But other than that, he really didn't do any live performances during that era.

I saw him in Philly on that tour, like 2nd row. He was amazing, sounded and looked fantastic. I was so thrilled to be there, I can't even remember many details about the show. I was just so floored by his brilliance.

I never understood why Lindsey didn’t play the first two singles off Out of the Cradle on his tour. Even if they weren’t hits, and even if he didn’t pick them as singles, why not perform the songs that may have been what exposed him to new fans? And seeing how he performed Countdown on Letterman, it almost boggles the mind that he didn’t perform it on the tour- he sounded great and he clearly was enjoying playing it.
