All I can say is...

It's About F*cking Time!!!! She should have won for Mrs. Lovett last year as well (and also Reno Sweeney, and Norma Desmond (Damn you Glen Close-but-no-cigar!!!))

She was so amazing!!! Gave me chills

I rather enjoyed the entire show this year.. The Tony Awards have become probably the only award show I can sit all the way through..

btw: I thought Ms. Minnelli was looking AMAZING!

For the uninitiated:

Patti LuPone was the original Broadway 'Evita' for which she won her first Tony in1980. She is the borther of actor Robert LuPone, who played the role of Zach in the original Broadway production of 'A Chorus Line.'
For many seasons (4, I think) she played mother Libby Thatcher on the show 'Life Goes On.' She even sang the theme. When LGO ended, Patti was offered the chance to create the role of Norma Desmond in the London production of 'Sunset Boulevard,' another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. The show opened to mediocre reviews, but most were unanimous in their praise for LuPone. However, Webber reneged on his assurance (and contract) that LuPone would take the role to Broadway. Instead, Glenn Close channeled her inner Carol Burnett and won a Tony for the role. LuPone and Webber settled out of court.

Many musical credits, including:
Anything Goes
Sweeney Todd
The Baker's Wife
Les Miserables
Oliver
Master Class
Noises Off
The Robber Bridegroom
Working

just to name a few

^^^

She also has one of the most technically acrobatic voices in the biz. She can BELT in head voice and it counds delightful. She also slammed out 16 high E's in three choruses in "A New Argentina" in Evita and threw in a high G in the last one for good measure. Very few voices can do that. to wit:

andother explanation of the voice:

Anyhoodle - she is now 60 years old giving the performace in the first post. I know few 20 year olds who could do it like Patti.

She most certainly did. That outfit is a dog though and WAY age inappropriate (her bra is showing ) . I am, however, happy for her in that she seems to have calmed the demons in her head.

Hey Strand, have you heard Elena Rogers (the 2006 London revival Evita)?

I always wondered what it would sound like if Maria Conchita Alonso played Eva. Now I know.

That is a VERY good analogy!!!!

She is good though - but a slightly abrupt voice

Thanks.

She's argentine, so it's much more authentic, but that same authenticity grates on your nerves after a while. Patti is still the iconic performance (Sorry Elaine I-Slept-With-Tim-Rice Paige)

Strandy, have you done any practicing of the Egmont from the music I posted? I'm sort of like waiting here to hear it. Am I waiting in vain?

Nice legs. I can't violate HIPAA by saying anything more, but she was in good hands.

Well, I have no piano. But, I will be around one in a week or so. So, then, I will look into it. I do, however, have limited access to a harp - but have no clue how to play it.
