For real?? Based on this and past posts, I guess you and I are just polar opposites all the way around when its comes to musical taste!! lol ... (Yet I think we're around the same age.)

I like his guitar playing. I can't imagine not wanting him to play on anything by anybody.

I know that I heard an interview where Christine said the two are friends and she'd been to parties at Jimmy Page's house.

But I don't mean to distract from the intent of the thread. I was just dreaming again.

Hmm...
All of Christine's songs would probably make me smile (although only some would make me cry as well, of course), but I'm not sure. I'd have to ask someone watching me! However, if any Fleetwood Mac related song comes on the radio, I know I smile (like today, with John Stewart's "Gold"). I can't help but also feel very self conscious, almost as if I'm somehow showing off the Mac's brilliance to everyone in the car.
As a completely different, yet related, matter, "Little Lies" is a big nostalgia song for me - it's one of only three songs I remember from my early childhood. Come to think of it, I'll start a thread on that right now!

Default McVie Forum Virgin - so be gentle

Hi Guys & Gals, a Ledge newbie, hope I don't embarrass myself.

Aged 52 I'm the CEO of a large charity in the UK so hopefully my posts will be measured and well thought through (or perhaps I should behave like a 19 year old and just "let it out?").

Life-long FM fan, I've long wondered about the incredibly talented Christine McVie for many, many years so imagine my surprise when surfing the net I find a CMc forum!

I've read the Chris McVie story, echo the sentiments of previous posts vis-a-vis how well its written and the very interesting content - well done.

As I write, I have "The Dance" Video playing in the background on itunes and unequivocally, in my opinion, Christine's performance of "Songbird" at the end of "The Dance Concert" is unequalled by comparison with her other live performances, though ironically Songbird is not my favourite Christine McVie track(but it's close to my favourite).

Incredibly talented and unquestionably the genius behind much of the Fleetwood Mac success (and I love them all; who could deny the silky sexy voice of Stevie Nicks and the incredibly gifted Lindsay Buckingham who's guitar playing is outstanding, etc. each member having unique gifts as both musicians and performers) Christine remains the conundrum within the group!

1. When I watch "The Dance" album do I perceive a sense of unhappiness in Christine, during various parts of the concert, at playing again with band?

2. Was her performance of Songbird her farewell to the fans (and the band)?

3. Did she know then that this was likely to be her final performance with the greatest Rock Band?

I have all her subsequent music/album which I love and which continues to evidence her musical mastery.

4. Will she ever perform again?

5. Is my ultimate wish that all the members of Fleetwood Mac will again sing together in the future, a lost and forlorn hope?

There you go; forgive my ignorance but appreciate my enthusiasm and love for one of the most talented musicians it has been my privilege to listen to in my short 50+ years.

Kindest regards and my sincere apologies for the length of my inaugural post here on the Ledge, but listening (and trying to understand Christine McVie) makes me want to ask these and so many more questions.

Mark Geraghty

P.S. I assume Christine doesn't ever view this forum?

Mark, you have wonderful taste in singers! Christine will always be the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac, at least as far as I'm concerned. I watched The Dance last night, and I agree, that she didn't really look happy. I think she knew the end was near, for her time with the band.

I don't think she'll ever perform live, again. She knew when it was time for her own curtain call. Damned pity, too, since she's the only one who can still sing! Hell, she sounds BETTER than ever!
So Fleetwood Mac will never be the same for me. I'll just live in the past, with my DVDs. So in my world, it will always be 1975, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1987, or 1997!
What I'd kill for, is some full length Bob Welch era, concert footage!

She said she enjoyed playing with the others once again, but wasn't keen on the big tour & the traveling required.

It was traditional for Chris to sing "Songbird" at the end of all the Fleetwood Mac concerts over the years.

What you are watching on "The Dance" was taped in May 1997, at which time the band knew it was more than likely going to tour the United States later that year.

4. Will she ever perform again?
She repeatedly says no.

Christine says no (& has had several opportunities to sing with the band already -- once in 2003 & again in 2009). But if you can look into the future using the crystal ball, you might see something else.

If she does, she keeps mighty quiet about it.

I assume Christine doesn't ever read this forum MG; If she does, she keeps mighty quiet about it. - what a thought if she ever did? MG

Yo David & Homer, thanks for your thoughts and insights.

Sadly the reality of David's comments resound in my mind with the words - "but why Christine you make the Mac come alive". I believe Christine now lives here in the UK?

As for that crystal ball David - hope is all I have - come on Christine, at least think about just ONE more time?

Currently listening to "Little Lies" on my iPhone. Is there any where I can read the stories behind some of Christine's critical compositions? I suspect "Little Lies" continues the theme from Rumours and the break up of relationships.

Has Christine ever written an autobiography? I've looked on the net but don't appear to be able to find anything? Are there any books about Christine's career or is the post on this site the current and definitive story behind Christine's life in Music?

Ah well guys, thanks again for your posts. Hope all is well across the pond, -5C here in the UK; snow and freezing temperatures have brought this small island to a shuddering halt hence my indulgence in the Mac.

Take care, stay safe and keep loving the best band ever!

Mark

No, to the autobiography. Christine would be the last person on Earth, to kiss and tell. She too classy for that. She shuns the spotlight, anyway.

Yes, she lives in the UK.

Of course I wish she'd come back to FM(and rekindle my interest in the band), but it ain't gonna happen. She's 65(66?), and always wanted to be a homebody. At last count, she was worth 34 million pounds, so what's the motivation for her to rejoin? She's happy(I assume), and enjoying the fruits of her labors. I say, good for her! I wouldn't want her to come back, if her heart weren't in it.

BUT, she COULD record a new album with the band, and just not tour!!!!

Homer, not looking for kiss & tell, just want to know more about her musical influences, values and beliefs. It's Christine McVie the musician/performer that intrigues me!

Agree another album with the Mac would be a compromise - let's hope (fingers crossed).

I recommend you read the dozens of articles on Christine McVie on the Blue Letter Archives, a section of the Penguin (this Web site) that compiles hundreds of newspaper & magazine articles.

The articles are listed in reverse chronological order, with the most recent at the top.
