I looooooooooooove going to the movies. My favorite theaters are the grungy art-house ones. I could live in those. As soon as they get a new flick, I move in.

Oh, well, I guess there's a whole 'nother world out there because I've only been in the huge, flashy, colorful, tacky movie theaters. I guess we don't have the art-house type down here. What a shock.

they're the best. I usually want to see those movies instead of the regular ones. The one in Chico had a big couch at the front that was awesome...
But - I love candy and popcorn at movies yes, they charge too much, so i usually bring my own candy...my friend likes movies specifically for the giant, fake oily butter popcorn, though...I enjoy it too.

You don't? Damn. Those places are fabulous. Great movies that you can't see anywhere else and the atmosphere is great. Fresh popcorn with real butter, clean bathrooms ( ), great vintage movie posters; I love them.

You should check and see if any of the art-houses near you are showing What the Bleep? with Marlee Matlin or The Saddest Music In the World with Isabella Rossellini. I saw those about a month and a half ago and they were fab. If you like good movies, those are a sure bet.

Don't forget the couches in the front!!!
can you imagine if you could only see big budget mainstream releases?
BTW, since you go to movies a lot, have you seen Hotel Rwanda yet?

Sounds cool! I bet I might enjoy some real popcorn instead of the incredibly oily stuff I've seen at the theaters, which totally turns me away from popcorn altogether. ( Amber)

oops! I've wanted to see Saddest Music since it came out, but it's on DVD now - at least i'm pretty sure i saw it in the rental place. But my budget is so limited that i really have to pick and choose. I used to watch, like, 5 movies a week.
Sometimes i'm not in the mood for depressing weird movies - but i'll still see that one, the review i read said the directors style was really interesting. (I forgot in what particular way, but still)
I was thinking of getting Garden State for this week's rental...
Edit - what the bleep? Didn't ever hear of that, but i like marlee matlin quite a bit...

They have couches in the back at the one I go to. Hollywood produces such **** that if I were forced to watch their crap on a constant basis, I think my teeth would decay from all the sugar and saccharine.

Yup, I saw it. Cheadle was FANTASTIC and for once I really liked Nick Nolte.

Well, I know what I'm getting tomorrow. It's more of a black comedy than a depressing movie. And it's so out-there and weird that it will hold your interest even if you don't like it. Isabella Rossellini as a legless beer baroness with two fake legs filled with beer? Sign me up!

Garden State is fab...

Omigod, you saw it?! SQEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I was actually thinking of taking a solo trip to the movies for that one...(which i don't mind at all, actually. I hate choosing a movie with someone else.)
I love cheadle. love, love. I like Nolte, too....and i heard the lady who played cheadle's wife was fantastical. I also heard that the suspense is nail biting, and that, suprisingly, they don't show that much violence (considering the subject matter)
anyway...

right, it is more of a black comedy, but you know i don't like ugly things. Anyway, the review made it sound extremely compelling, so it's a must see.
Hey, i almost rented it last week, but decided on Collateral instead: Have you seen "A Slipping Down Life" with Guy Pierce *major crush* lily taylor and sara rue?

I've liked Cheadle since he was on Picket Fences, one of my favorite shows. Nolte always annoyed me, but he was really good in it. There's next to no violence in it, which I found refreshing.

Oh, it's not ugly at all, it's a beautiful film. The set pieces, the costumes, Isabella, just gorgeous. And the fact that it's black and white makes it even more stunning.

I never saw that other movie, but I read a book by Anne Tyler by the same title. Is it about a woman obsessed with a rock singer?
