Have you tried googling it? Anyway, given that 'earth' is probably an old English, non-Latin word of some kind, I would guess that 'The Earth' was a label being used in England from around the Middle Ages? No idea though, really.

Default Good question..

I'll have to ask our Latin teacher-maybe he knows..

The Greeks called it Gea or something like that..

I bet it's Druid or something..

Also:

earth
O.E. eorðe "ground, soil, dry land," also used (along with middangeard) for "the (material) world" (as opposed to the heavens or the underworld), from P.Gmc. *ertho (cf. O.N. jörð, M.Du. eerde, O.H.G. erda, Goth. airþa), from PIE base *er-. The earth considered as a planet was so called from c.1400. Earthy in the fig. sense of "coarse, unrefined" is from 1594. Earthworm first attested 1591. Earthwork is from 1633. Earthlight apparently coined 1833 by British astronomer John Herschel.

Stevie: Well, the Welsh witch, Rhiannon called to her 3 birds, and she chirped to them asking them what to call this place we live on. The golden bird said "Squak!" which meant "I'm hungry. Feed me, witch.", the emerald bird, well, he was green, so he was sick, he just threw up on Rhiannon. The snow white bird said, "Chirp!" which meant Earthen...so Rhiannon shortened it to Earth.
