I always loved the way that this concert sounded. Stevie has her feet on the ground and is not incoherent and screaming like many RAL shows. She says the last time she did coke on stage was the Red Rocks show which was the end of the US leg. So if that is true, it really shows in these recordings. I am suspect she would quit while still on tour but at least she sounds really clear at this show.

I listened to “Talk to Me.” Overall, she handles the vocal well, with restraint. But there are moments when her voice jumps, spastic, as if she’s always on the verge of abandon. At certain climactic moments that effect can be powerful, but in the verses here it sounds like she’s not always able to control herself.

Wasn't that kind of her charm? That she was always out of control? It's cute in your 20's....

Ok here is a riddle that has always fascinated me with these recordings. I have heard many RAL shows that have been recorded and not the best quality but we do get Red Rocks professionally recorded (audio with layered new vocals).

Benmont Tench did not tour with Stevie in 1986. However just listen to these recordings. Listen to the first few minutes of Outside the Rain. These songs sound different (to me) than other RAL live tracks in the states. His trademark playing is on all these tracks. I dont hear it from her shows in the states. Benmont is not credited and if he was there it could have been laziness to not credit him. Maybe she took him on an Australian vacation and he played these shows. This is very glaring to me so I would love to hear anyone's feedback especially those who know her RAL shows. I would bet the house it is Benmont because he plays a certain way that stands out. Maybe he was there to give her support before her final days before rehab. His fingerprints are all over these tracks.

The “Dreams” is interesting because I don’t hear the trio of background vocalists. I only hear Bobby Martin (I think), or possibly Waddy. Usually RAL shows stand out with the background vocals because they were augmented by Alecia Wright, who brought an R&B feel into the usual ghostly Sharon and Lori vocals.
