Ledgies from the late 70s: memories?

But any other memories during the Rumours lineup golden era..

I mean, movies like A Star is Born, Saturday Nigh Fever, Grease were on the top. The disco music, discos like Studio 54 and all the "decadence" were the fever.

Now I see SNF and realize it wasn't big deal, though I still like Grease. But in that moment I was 12 and everybody was cutting their long hairs for a Tony Manero haircut. And there were the white suits.

Now it seems everybody hate that stuff, but at that moment I think there were lot of people that loved it. It happens with many things (music, movies, fashion), if you get oversaturated, you stop loving it for hating it.

At least in Peru, Beta system was more popular than VHS. Don't know in other countries.

Terrorism was something that looked to happen very far (in Peru we have terrorist years, but in the mid 80s to early 90s, not anymore).

Dolby sound was the best one. Home theatres, Dolby digital 5.1 or Prologic didn't exist. Cell phones were a fantasy. As microwaves.

Star Wars was THE movie. As Jaws.

And no AIDS..
Big cities were less violent, at least Lima was. You could left your car in the street the whole night. Now everybody needs a garage.

Not sure if life was easier then. Maybe some things were, others not I guess.

Besides Dolby Stereo there was "Quadrophonic" mixes which STILL sounds great to my ears.

Kiss were somewhat the rage musically in our household, The whole makeup/theaterical gimmick worked great (Too bad in 2005 they are an absolute joke!!!) but the Beatles still ruled the roost!!!

As for personal life then...Oct. to Dec.1977 sucked worse than any year in my life (Dec.2003 to March 2004 is a close second) but at the same time 1979 was the most fun EVER in my life.

Interesting I was born the same day Chicago Cubs legend Ernie Banks hit his 500th Home Run (May 12,1970) and I am a diehard Cubs fan...And it was the same week that the Beatles released their final album "Let It Be".

I think the first reported case was in 1980 so you are right, sure there was before the 80s, but they didn't know

I remember seeing Grease in the theater, twice.

My concert-going career began in 1977 - first one was KISS, quickly followed by Styx (Grand Illusion Tour), the Cars, Foghat, Jethro Tull, Journey, Sammy Hagar (pre-Van Halen, when both bands were still good), Van Halen, April Wine, Ted Nugent, the Scorpions, Def Leppard, Cheap Trick, Judas Priest, REO Speedwagon, Head East, Marshall Tucker Band, Ozzy Osbourne, Andy Gibb (at Six Flags), KC and the Sunshine Band (also at Six Flags), etc., etc., and then onto the 80's....

One of my projects, that I never seem to have time for, is to organize all my ticket stubs in chronological order. I started keeping a scrapbook in high school, but now there are ticket stubs in kitchen drawers, on the kitchen counter, on a bulletin board, in my desk drawer, they're everywhere....

I remember when cable TV first came out - and there still wasn't a remote control for it - just a box on top of your TV that was about 16" long, with a sliding thingie on top, that would click into place for each channel.

Saturday Night Live was the "new," hip show to watch - cigarette ads were still on TV, and ads for liquor also.

Lunch boxes were metal.

a great majority of my ticket stubs, The Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks stubs are sealed in glass behind a cool autographed Stevie pict from the pre-TISL tour gig she played (Stevie has her arms stretched out with her palms up).

My dream pet project would be to find and purchase the cars my Mother had in the late 70's:

'76 Pontiac Trans Am (454 Chevy V-8 without turbo)
'69 Chevy Camaro SS (350 Chevy V-block with the awesome as hell dual racing stripes from nose to tail...In the late 70's, The only car in Eastern Oklahoma faster than the T.A.)

If I included the cars my late-Father owned:

'63 Chevy Impala Station Wagon
'70 Pontiac GTO ("the Judge") Convertible

Plus, I would like to track down my uncle's scrapbook and figure out how the hell did he know Gregg Allman, Willie Nelson, Joe Walsh, Various members of the band Kansas and Stevie Nicks...I kinda know how he knew 'em, Just would like to be able to verify that reason (When your in your 60's and doing 20-to-life for drug dealing it isnt hard to figure this one out.)

Hmm. OK lets see what I can remember from waay back.

Mood Rings. Living in RI I had a few of them

I remember a pendant that looked like an apple core. That was in the early 70s.

I remember shirts that kind of looked like football jerseys were popular. Kind of like the one SN has on in the Rolling Stone article from 1977. Mine was #11.

The blizzard of '78. Did not have school for about 2 weeks. The whole state came to a stand still.

Disco Vs. Rock. You were not supposed to like both you had to pick one or the other. I would say Rock but I did like some disco, too. I was just a closet disco fan. LOL


I was not a big movie fan even back then so I don't really know what was popular.

When, I think back of how it was then without the computer or Internet or cell phone. I wonder how I survived it all! My first reaction during this last snow storm was to make sure that my cell phone was charged. I thought back to '78 when there was no cell phone and it just gave me this really weird feeling.

What do you think about the difference in life between the seventies and now? Is it a clear cut answer to say if it was better or worse? Did you like the seventies?
