I hadn’t realised Everywhere wasn’t top 10 in the US. In the UK it hit #4 and was their highest charting song since Peter Green.
It’s interesting what he said about it gathering more streams than any of the 13 songs above it that week. It really is a song that’s culturally more significant than its chart placing.

On another note, he gave a brief mention to Richard Dashut. Does anyone know whether Dashut went to the service for Christine? I presume he did, but he must be in very poor health, so I don’t know whether he could travel.
Everywhere is unique for many reasons. It was huge internationally hitting #1 in Belgium and #2 in Ireland and charted high all across Europe. It did not have the same success in the states and those low budget videos were never played on MTV. I think releasing their live 1987 Tango concert version on MTV would have made the song chart higher in the states. It was used in that UK commercial which made it go silver and then the car commercials made it sell again. It went against the grain a bit. Usually Mac singles always chart higher in the states. When Chris needed to pick a song from Tango for the Dance, it was Everywhere instead of Little Lies.

I wish they did Little Lies on The Dance. Sara too. Little Lies and Sara would have been amazing on The Dance.

“Everywhere” hit #14 in the United States, so it wasn’t exactly small potatoes. “Rhiannon” and “Say You Love Me” both peaked at #11 for perspective.

But 1975 and 1987 weren't exactly the same playing field.

If anything, it was more difficult to climb the charts in the 80's. So kudos to Christine for nailing it.

Exactly. That was my point. And they were fresh in 1975. And approaching dinosaur status in 1987.

I was thinking of Madonna, but damned close.

Great minds...

Yes and no. I smell what you are cooking but in the 80s, you could be the crappiest band with a cool video and you would have a hit. At least in the 70s it was all audio and if the song was good, most times it got air play.
Everywhere is that grey area. While there apparently were videos made, they were not shown on MTV. If it was not Fleetwood Mac would the song still have charted without a video? During the early promo days of Tango, they made 3 videos, one for each singer. They did not think much beyond 3 singles and then were on tour with Everywhere was released. It sort of hurt the song IMHO. You can count on one hand the songs not played on MTV that were still big hits.
Everywhere is so whimsical. It would be a tough video challenge. A live version of the song would have been a good video.
