Question For Penguin Discography: Want singles (like Holiday Road) sorting w/soundtracks?

As an example, these are pages for some singles in the new discography that have LB’s “Holiday Road” on them:

http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/discog.php?pid=955

http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/discog.php?pid=956

Now, would you want these kinds of singles to show up along with the soundtrack albums (like “Vacation”) when you choose the “Soundtracks” drop down sorting group in their discographies?

We’re kind of opposed to having a separate “soundtrack singles” section since there’s no such thing (& therefore, realistically, not many people would use it) but we can discuss if the masses say with good reason here that there should be one.

Again, this seems pretty clear cut yes or no so aside from the above said issue please only post below if you have another angle that we’re perhaps overlooking that should be looked at regarding this topic.

Thanks again for the ops in advance.

John

Exclamation Results

This poll is now closed. Singles including songs FM members are on which came from soundtracks will soon show up with the soundtrack albums. Thanks for your participation in this poll.

Question

OK, I'm going through & resorting now based on this answer & here's an angle I wanted to ask you guys about:

Just remembered that Zevon's "Werewolves Of London" is on the "Color Of Money" soundtrack (I'll eventually get around to adding that) but for the time being, would you guys want the Zevon WOL single to have the soundtrack tag attached to it (so it'd show up with the soundtracks (since John & Mick play on it & it's on TCOM soundtrack), Holiday Road single, etc.)?

Just not sure where you think we should draw the line on this (just do this to FM/solo recordings? ...or those & guest appearance stuff like this that's on soundtracks)?

Let me know your thoughts & I'll sort accordingly, thanks in advance.

Does the "Big Love" single get a soundtrack tag under the current system?

As of now, no, only because we haven't had the chance to see if it appeared in any movies yet or not (remember, we're just trying to cross reference only everything that's in there first, and then, add stuff later but I just wanted to ask this now so I'd know what to do when that time comes). So is it in a movie? The TITN version? If it is in a movie & you think the BL single should have the soundtrack tag to it, we'll include it. So let me know, thanks.

I was just wondering what the current rule of thumb is. "Big Love" was in the movie Elizabethtown, although I think it was the Dance version.

Anyway, I'd vote no on giving the WOL single a "soundtrack" tag. As this is a Fleetwood Mac database, anybody searching for the soundtrack tag is likely looking for Fleetwood Mac songs on soundtracks and don't care about WOL. Plus, the WOL single isn't specifically tied to this soundtrack, right? It's just the single from when the album was first released, right?

Oh OK, yeah, the "Elizabethtown 2" soundtrack has the "Sound stage" DVD BL on it but yeah, we'll deal with that when the time comes.

Well, this is why I ask, I want to find out what people want/how they want these things handled in the new discography.

Though what you say is true, I used LB's SOLO "Holiday Road" as an example in the poll question & the vote was to include the live tag on such singles. So it does appear as though people "also (?)" want the solo singles to count too. I guess we'll assume that guest appearances "aren't close enough" then unless many disagree here.

Yes, however, as another example, "Go your own way" was not tied specifially to the "Casino" soundtrack, and I personally wouldn't "tie" the GYOW singles to the soundtrack tag but I ask this here because I don't automatically know what people want. So this is why I ask. I just don't want to assume what people want, I just want to bounce it off everyone here, then proceed based on the feedback.

Again, I guess the rule will be that if a song originally appears on a soundtrack then we'll tag it, if it doesn't then we won't, unless the masses here disagree before 5/15/06.
