I don't have a video, but I think the MP3 I have is a short one. Does a full version exist?

Yes, Chili D is right. It's incredibly tacky- especially the last part. The singing is completely out of tune. This is probably the only Lindsey song/performance that I really hate.

Ho, stop, guys!!!
I disagree. Although I love the original, AND Steve Harley's version (speak about out-of-tune-singing ) I just have to give lindsey credit for morphing this song into a typical Lindsey Buckingham performance. Going crazy vocally and putting in very direct emotion. Maybe over the top, but he did it heartfelt, not cheap. I love it.

Had he just been doing a "Lindsey" thing, it probably would be a little more passable to make those drastic changes. |

I don't have it...
I *thought* I had it, but I looked just now and don't. Sowee.
Now, Gerald...is snobistic a word? LMAO!! He's a Californian, aren't they ALL snobs? Hehe. KIDDING all Californians!!!! I was taken aback by the song, because he sounded really strained vocally but I think he was angry because of the incident that happened prior and he was trying to forget that and concentrate on the fact this was about George and not him. Then again, what the frick do I know. I had not heard the original prior to LB's version so I took it as a new song and his guitarwork was PHENOMINAL on the song..and I think George would have enjoyed hearing Lindsey's take on his song. They were on friendly terms, no? I'm sure most musicians respect all other musicians. Lemme just add that Lindsey is NOT George, so why try to do the song like George did?

I think its wildly creative and an interesting emotional spin on a great old song that really defined george harrison.....to me this performance just shows how great the song actually was that it can lend itself to such tangents... lindsey understood this.. and I'm sure george would have been honored... this sounds to me like this was one of lindsey's favorite beatles songs... and he just really wanted to make it explode and show another side of it....
its a tribute to george for sure.. what greater honor than to have someone love your song enough to want to remake it into something else.. |

I'm in the "this was an awful performance - never do it again please" group. Awful, awful.

Let's keep in mind the context: Lindsey has developed this style of playing that, while based on very traditional picking styles, is really a unique style now. So he wanted to apply that to this song, as he did with Trying for the Sun.
Second, it seems to me a lot of people have got hung up on the anguish in his performance. Here Comes the Sun is a sunny song, not agony. But if you look at it that way, you're missing a big part of the context. George had just died and, therefore, the message of "Here Comes the Sun" takes on a different meaning. Context. |

I think that is great if his performance of this song spoke to people. It did not do so to me. To me, this song would have worked better for him if he would have strummed his guitar and sang in a lighter voice like the original song. I think anguish could still have been portrayed.

Tampering with Beatles is probably a big gamble. If it works - great. If not . . . .
Good examples of why not to tamper with great songs by great groups: Satisfaction - Devo Satisfaction - Brittany Spears Landslide - Smashing Pumpkins and Dixie Chicks (altough not as bad by comparison) Food for Thought! Last edited by strandinthewind; 09-04-2003 at 05:51 PM.. |
