Stevie '78 Interview (Dallas)
As the interview concerns the band and not Stevie in particular, I'm posting it in this forum.
The interview, which appears to be Dallas 7/23/78, starts at 1:17 right as she gets off the plane and ends about two minutes later at 3:29: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vujE2Uh9psg After 3:29 you see Stevie whisked away to her limo (Christine has one too). As Stevie said elsewhere, the band always traveled in style and never did "the bus." Look at her at when the camera zooms in at 1:57 and at 3:26. It's clear that at this point she is the most beautiful woman in the world. While she would remain stunning for years to come, I would say this is the peak of her good looks. She would never look better. (Can you imagine getting dumped by a woman who looks like this and still having to see her at work everyday? It's amazing Lindsey kept any of his psyche in tact.) In time cocaine Klonopin and aging would change her looks, change her weight, and the former–by her own acknowledgement–would change her voice too. I imagine such changes were hard. To the extent that Stevie became difficult spoiled needy and power hungry, one would imagine grappling with the changes above would, at a minimum, be a contributing factor. (As others have said, Lindsey has his own problems. Neither has a particularly healthy psychological profile.) In any case, I think the spontaneity of the interview–as opposed to something planned in advance for which Stevie might prepare–makes it unique and worth watching. In short she says the infighting is over, the band is strong, the band is her rock, the band loves to play live rather than just record*, and Texas is significant to them as El Paso was the first place they played ("they" being the Rumours lineup). *Notwithstanding Wikipedia including it in its "Rumours Tour" page, the interval between the '77 and '78 shows, and Stevie's veiled reference to the band having already begun work on Tusk, indicate they are on a standalone tour not to promote an album but just to play (would the next such time be 2009?) – see Dallas 7/23/78 in the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumours_Tour Last edited by cbBen; 01-02-2023 at 04:53 PM.. |
