And the nominees are...

No real big surprises, IMO.

And Annette Bening better beat Swank this year.
Poor Paul Giamatti.

Yeah...no surprises with the noms.

However, CNN was talking about the lookover of Passion and F9-11.

Me either...........maybe cuz the nominated movies are usually boring epics that no one sees anyway.

Sideways was not nominated???? WHAT! Great movie!

Aviator...not so good!

Passion DID at least get 3 noms. Cinematography, makeup, and score! (IMO...it should have been nom for best actor (Jim Caviezel) and best actress (Maia Morgenstern)

and no Phantom of the Opera noms? or did I overlook that!?!

I actually thought DiCaprio did a great job. Despite looking nothing like Hughes, I felt the pulled it off. Maybe because I've always been interested in Howard Hughes anyway.

But it doesn't matter who was nominated in the Best Actor category - Jamie Foxx is a shoo-in.

I don't think he did. His scene about the "blueprints" was enough to get him a Razzie, IMO.

To think that he was chosen over Liam Neeson is incomprehensible to me.

I read an article that said his performance was more the product of the director's cutting and vision than anything else. Not saying that is true, but...

Lux - I agree Cate is fab.

Also, I also LOVED Taxi Driver ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075314/...c=1;ft=20;fm=1 ) , though it was hard to watch because it was blisteringly harsh. But, therein is MS' brilliance. He knows how to portray the emotion so well. I mean look at The Age of Innocence ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106226/...c=1;ft=20;fm=1 ) - in which he semingly effortlessly captured the beauty of that era while also humorously and tragically noting the ugly things like the hypocrisy of that era as well. I also think "Gangs of New York," ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0217505/...c=1;ft=21;fm=1 )while not my fav. film, also seemingly effortless portrayed this same thing.

So, I think MS will win for his body of work - while not really fair, it happens

Finally, he ususally has Mt Rushmore for a cast doesn't he AND he brings out the best in ALL of them IMO
