Default "Sybil" remake

I love the original, but this sounds promising:

Lange, Blanchard to Star in 'Sybil'

NEW YORK — Jessica Lange and Tammy Blanchard will star in CBS' remake of "Sybil," a 1976 TV movie that starred Sally Field and Joanne Woodward.

"Sybil" is based on Flora Rheta Schreiber's book about a young woman who suffered from a psychological condition where two or more different personalities exist within the same person.

Blanchard will play the title character; Lange will portray the psychiatrist who treats her. As Sybil begins to recall her troubled past, she reveals 16 distinct personalities.

Production is set to begin next week in Nova Scotia, CBS announced Wednesday.

Lange, 56, has won Oscars for her roles in "Blue Sky" and "Tootsie." Blanchard, 29, won an Emmy Award for her performance as the young Judy Garland in the TV movie "Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows."

Field won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Sybil; Woodward played the psychiatrist.

I think the way Sybil was treated by her psychologist was the most disturbing! I'm just kidding of course, but that mindset of total integration is so outdated now. (I did my senior seminar on dissociative identity disorder- I have a huge fascination with it)

I'm very interested in seeing the new movie.

me too - it will be interesting to see how the performance is seeing as how I think Sally Field tore it up one side and down the other...

What was presented in the book and movie is a lot of bull****. Her doctor and the author of the book planted **** in the woman's head. There's plenty of stuff out there that disproves a lot of the stuff they tried to pass off, including audio tapes of some of the sessions. The Sybil business is all fascinating stuff, but it's not really true to the extent they want you to believe. More fiction than anything.

I have heard something along these lines. I think that this disease is looked on more skepticially be clinicians than it was at the time of the writing. It's a good thing that this story isn't entirely true becaue it was just that disturbing.

I haven't actually seen the movie!

Very true, Diss. But mandatory reading for anyone who is interested in the subject. There are much, MUCH, better books on DID than Sybil, for sure.

Kathy Bates would be perfect - but she may not want another role like that (a la Misery).

Yeah plus she is just so gifted anyway .It's kind of a small role for her too but it is juicy

With all the talented writers out there, trying to "make it" big, why do they keep making remakes...remakes...remakes? I am getting real bored with it.
