This day in 1971...
Fifty years ago, Jeremy Spencer disappeared from Fleetwood Mac...

Almost the end of the first era of the band. (I include the KH/KH tour as the original era, since everyone in the lineup had been involved with Fleetwood Mac since 1968).

I came across this pic on the Danny Kirwan FB group and the question arose, whether this was taken in the U.S. shortly prior to Jeremy's disappearance and conversion to the COG or in the UK. Any idea (or knowledge), anyone?

It was definitely “taken” (a still from some video footage, I think) on Christine’s first tour with the band. So whether it was the first round (fall 1970) or the second (spring 1971) is the question. I wish I knew. Who are the three men with her, Danny, and John?

That very same question was asked on the FB group - entourage, passers-by . . . I wish I knew. What's your 2 Cents on the surrounding - does it look more like the UK or the States to you?

Have you ever seen such a video, where it could be taken from? I haven't yet.

I do remember seeing moving footage of this very scene but I cannot remember where. I will look further into it! Edit: The unedited documentary elsewhere on YouTube is called “Mick Fleetwood: Two Sticks and a Drum” from 2001: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SH8hvTUE1HQ. At the 28:28 mark you’ll see the full pic pop up there, too. Last edited by aleuzzi; 06-05-2022 at 01:56 AM.. |

. . . thanks a million, aleuzzi!
But you're not quite right in terms the city - the "Coming Home" documentary (thanks for pointing this out!) shows the pic zooming in from under the marquee of the "Fillmore East" in New York, so that's clearly the location. And taking in account the Mac having been on the same bill as Fairport and Savoy Brown, I'm pretty sure that the 3 gentlemen in question outside of the Mac are probably Rod Price, Tony Stevens and Roger Earl (left to right) from Savoy (definitely nobody from Fairport). So all questions answered, I guess. Last edited by lazy poker; 06-05-2022 at 06:25 AM.. |

I could have studied the image more closely. It’s introduced in the documentary right at this point where Mick discusses Christine’s first gig in New Orleans, so I erroneously assumed they were connected. I have seen video stills of this, but cannot remember where. |

I think it’s just 8mm “home” movies Mick recorded. IIRC, he was always filming with it back in those days.

And we’re lucky to have those bits of footage.

Honestly, I was going to watch just a little and I couldn't stop watching.

Might the guy in the cowboy hat be Dave Walker? I'm not sure if he was in Savoy Brown whilst Jeremy was still in FM.

I think Walker joined the following year (1971) but I could be wrong. Either way, the bearded man in the pic looks similar but not quite like him…LazyPoker provided a left-to-right probability…

The photo was shot during the billing of Fairport, Savoy Brown and the Mac in late August 1970 (the gigs were on the 28th and 29th). At that time the Savoys consisted of Kim Simmonds and three guys who went on to start Foghat the following year. And here one of my guesses was wrong: Rod Price wasn't part of that Savoy line-up - so one of the threesome must've been 'Lonesome' Dave Peverett instead. Remains the question who is who. At least the man in the middle should be Tony Stevens. But Dave Walker didn't join until 1971.
