Arrow Poison's producer talks (Stevie Nicks mention)

Interesting interview. Poison's producer calls the band incompetent and not musically talented. They got access to a studio to record their first album because a "coked out" Stevie Nicks had the studio rented but she never ever showed up. So the studio members allowed the band to show up but they never let the owners of the studio know. They had no money to rent a studio and their first album cost just over $20,000 to record. He says "if that fat bitch ever showed up they would have to leave." No wonder Brett Michael seemed to be loyal to Stevie. The story I remember hearing was their tours crossed paths in 1986 and they had a brief encounter with her at an airport. But her absence from the recording studio led to their career and stardom. I would be loyal to her too. Interesting that the crappy RAL sessions indirectly led to more crappy music by other artists BTW, I always could tell Poison's drummer was not a good drummer simply by watching their videos

Lol the stories of her messy debauchery from like 84-86ish always crack me up. Like this and the whole Don’t Come Around Here No More saga. And the mid 80s reels/work tapes where everyone around her in the studio just sounds exhausted. It’s like she either never showed up or showed up just to annoy everyone for a brief period of time and then leave.
She was just a menace to society for a solid 3 years

Oh now, I think 3 years is being too kind.

And what about her meltdown at the Wham concert in Los Angeles in late summer 1985. That was right before she took off with Bob and Tom for Australia. And before that she joined Heart on tour in Arizona bringing the Wilson sisters to her home. Nancy said they partied hard back then but no one could keep up with Stevie. All of this while she was supposed to be finishing her album and practicing tour rehearsals. She just wanted to party period. She had no interest in making good music. She even was a no show during her Talk To Me video shoot which is why it debuted so late. When the video was released, the song was already in the top 20. If you ever watch E True Hollywood Story of Nell Carter and Gimmie A Break, it will remind you of Stevie and how bad her cocaine addiction was.
However the craziest story I ever heard from this era was from Joe Walsh himself. In 1990 Joe Walsh was on Rockline. Someone called in and asked him to tell the Stevie Nicks Kentucky Fried Chicken incident. Joe said that they were all at a party for a world premiere of a Prince video. Joe was with Stevie in the living room and while they were waiting for the video to come on TV, a Kentucky Friend Chicken commercial came on tv. Joe was specific that it was the one where the cub scouts come marching into the restaurant demanding chicken done right. Stevie thought his commercial was the Prince video. When she was told it was a commercial everyone including Stevie could not stop laughing. I wish this Rockline would be uploaded to Youtube. If anyone has access it was broadcast July 1990. It always made me think, how disconnected from reality could you be to think a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial was a Prince video. I can only imagine what Wham's security had to deal with

Edit: If anyone has the power or resources to obtain this interview from Rockline the date is: 7/9/1990 joe walsh / mick taylor rockline

It's a fine line, when you're 4 feet tall.

This producer sounds like a charmer. I guess he won’t be working with Poison any time soon.

I wish he would go into more details rather than just "furious and very emotional". He even stated that he could not calm her down even though she was finally admitted backstage. We are left reading between the lines and apparently he did not want to embarrass her. But he states all his efforts in trying to calm her down and admit her backstage did not work. OMG really makes your mind wonder. Here is a snippet from the book.

Digest: she showed up backstage at a Wham concert in 1985 or 86, when they were at the height of her fame. Security refuses her entrance and she has a grade-A meltdown. When Rigley and Michael got wind of her being there, they insisted she’d be let in, but it was too late: she was already distraught, humiliated, and wanted to go home.

There’s a picture of her at this very moment floating around. It’s jarring.

No that cant be it. She has 1987 hair in that photo and she is wearing the Big Love dress. Wham played LA, CA in Feb 1985 and August 1985 which was the peak of the RAL recordings. I must say I am fascinated at her idiocy at the simplest things yet at the same time knowing current pop culture. Who would have guessed the woman who thought a KFC commercial was a Prince video knew who Wham was and wanted to see them in concert. I love that 1985 MTV interview where she mentions Cyndi Lauper going over the audience in a garbage can with orange hair. It shows how much MTV she watched. Also there is a funny Wild Heart video that after GDW is performed she exclaims to the audience "They'rrrrrrrrre Herrrrrrrreeee" which was a very common Poltergeist reference back then. She was a completely sheltered drug addict woman but damn she knew her pop culture

I googled Stevie Nicks Wham concert refused, and it brought up that pic. It even said she was refused from a Wham show, beneath it.

Did you see the link I posted earlier in this thread. It was an article that also had that photo. I doubt that photo is from 1985. That photo looks like 1987 Big Love hair and dress. Each year in the mid 80s was like dog years for Stevie. I bet there are no photos of the incident and someone just posted an 80s photo of her being escorted somewhere. But who knows. That hair style is post Betty Ford.
