Cheney out, Giuliani in?
According to this article on MSNBC, Cheney will not be picked as Bush's running mate, and Rudy Giuliani is the top choice to replace him. It's in "entertainment section," so who knows if it's even true. I personally wish Rudy would run for President in '08, with Sen. Olympia Snowe as his running mate.

Ahhh...I LOVE Olympia.
I'm a democrat, but I love the woman. I don't think she would be a good pick for VP, though...she's VERY moderate, and I don't think that a lot of Republicans like her because of that. Not saying that there is anything wrong with being moderate, but Olympia votes with the democrats on a lot of the republicans' big issues. For example, she voted "Not guilty" on both counts of Clinton's impeachment, and she was a very big critic of Bush's latest tax cuts. |

No offense to anyone, but I think Rudy would be a fool to tie himself to the Bush wagon at this point.
Maybe Cheney should hitch himself to Rudy instead. - Jake

I agree. I would prefer to see him run in 2008. (Rudy v. Hillary all over again?) |

G certainly would help the R's get the NY vote, which almost certainly will go to the D's.
I do not think C is going anywhere though. |

Cheney is a liability at this point.
Any replacement would be an improvement for Dubya's chances at a 2nd term. |

I think I'm the only person in America to absolutely *despise* Giuliani. If Giuliani is allowed anywhere near the White House, we should all be afraid. Very afraid. And if he runs in '08, the last shred of decency that we have left after Bush (which isn't much) will go out the window. Thanks for the scare.

I doubt anything comes of it. But may I ask why you don't like him? Many of my Dem friends say Giuliani is the only Republican they actually like. |

Then, there was the NY police shooting of Amadou Diallo, a black male, about 41 times when all he was trying to do was pull out his wallet to show ID. A panel cleared the officers of any intentional wrongdoing. Personally, I think this was a horrible accident. I think the police made a mistake as human beings do. But, many saw this as the end result of racial profiling in that if a white guy had pulled out his wallet, he would not have been shot ot at least not have been shot 41 times. Here is a CNN article about it http://www.cnn.com/2000/US/02/25/diallo.reax/ Fonally, when RG cleaned up Times Square from the sleazy XXX/prostitution scene it was when he came into office. Many people thought RDG trampled on the civil rights of the XXX stores, the prostitutes, and the vagrants that were there. I think he did the right thing, because it turned the New York scene around and lowered the crime rate. Here is an article: http://www.city-journal.org/html/9_4...nexpected.html and another http://townnews.atevo.com/guides/foc...1,3452,00.html These events all occured prior to 9/11. I think after 9/11, many many people saw the foregoing as trivial compared to RG's actions on 9/11 and after. I hope that helps. Last edited by strandinthewind; 01-28-2004 at 11:15 AM.. |

Everything you said, Jason.
Also, his constant persecution and disdain for the homeless in NYC was offensive. He also sprayed the enitre city with poison gas because he claimed mosquitos were infected with encephalitis, even though not one mosquito was found to be. He evicted tons of vendors in Chinatown in order to bulldoze the area; it was a police raid. And I believe that Giuliani himself is responsible for the death of Diallo.

Not happening. No president has ever dumped his VP in the middle of his term. If Bush dumps Cheney, it's suicide for him.

I think that what certain Republican insiders are trying to do is to get Cheney to willingly step down and remove himself from the race. The Halliburton albatross around his neck is becoming quite a weight on the B-C 2004 ticket. And about damn time!
