What the hell are you talking about? Aretha Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Because she has nothing creative left in the tank and hasn’t for some time. Why risk alienating the audience and/or having the extended restroom break/beer run set when crowds eat up the oldies?

Put your Stevie defense gear down and calm down with using the word "hell"... You need to actually read the conversations here and not do a cursory read. Stevie was inducted twice first. Tina and Diana were not. Stevie seems to be the exception, safe from any questions about privilege.

You diminished Tina Turner by suggesting she should have been inducted into the Hall of Fame as a solo artist before “a privileged white woman” because she’s a WOC. Gee, why not say she should have been inducted first because she was a victim of domestic violence or whatever other passively pejorative classification you can muster up? How many female Buddhists are in the Hall of Fame? Why not talk about how well spoken Tina is while you’re at it? How about Tina should’ve been first because she was simply kick ass better?

Yep - this. This is the only comment that should be made when comparing Tina and Stevie related to the RRHOF. Tina is far more prolific and IMO had a much more successful solo career than Stevie has. It has nothing to do with her color or Stevie’s.

I can't believe there hasn't been a thread for Stevie/ Billy Joel last Friday in Nashville. Did NOBODY here go? I live right across the river from the stadium, and could hear parts of the show.

I didn't diminish Tina. You have said she could sing rock and play with men like Jagger and Bowie, and that was about it. You diminished Tina. And racists have problems bringing up color in discussions. And you are no one to talk about acting more enlightened than anyone else in your glass house. You can’t get through a discussion without trashy name calling and YOU’RE calling someone “Trumpian”??? Project much?

Since you’re hellbent on bringing race into the conversation, Tina Turner’s post-Ike solo music was written and produced by white people, such as Holly Knight, who wrote songs like “Love Is a Battlefield” and “Warrior” and Rupert Hine (remember him?). She recorded mostly outside of the United States, her music wasn’t remotely urban-centric, and she was hanging out with the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bowie, Clapton, Bryan Adams, Mark Knopfler, etc. That’s what SHE wanted. Hell, she married a German, is living in Lake Zurich, Switzerland, and is now a Swiss citizen, relinquishing her American citizenship in the process. Tina wanted the association with Jagger and Bowie much like Stevie does with Tom Petty and the Eagles. And speaking of La Nicks, unlike Tina, Diana, Cher, Pat, et.al., Stevie wrote or cowrote the vast majority her own material. So, it basically is a coin toss between better entertainer or singer-songwriter.

Did you put on a towel and do the crackhead dance when she sang Gold Dust Woman?

Have you had any discussions with Black friends about Tina Turner? I am always told by my friends they consider her to be the Queen of Rock and Roll. And you don't read posts so you wouldn't see I wrote she had more hits, bigger tours, and a huge impact on today's most popular artists such as Beyonce, Janelle Monae, and Lizzo. Do you know these artists? You get upset anytime Stevie doesn't get praised. Last edited by UnwindedDreams; 05-22-2023 at 12:12 PM.. |

You’re the one dwelling on her race. She escaped America to get away from people who constantly brought up her race. People like you. Tina Turner didn’t want to be a “black” entertainer, she wanted to be a rock star who transcended race, creed, gender, and nationality. Quote:
