Default FM Addiction?

I was just thinking about this the other day. I was wondering if anyone else perhaps is like me.

I honestly think I have some sort of obsessive disorder with Fleetwood Mac. I don't really show any symptoms of OCD in any other part of my life.

I was thinking, I listen to Fleetwood mac, for at least an hour, every day, for the last 4-5 years. And I have heard go your own way, in numerous different renditions every day for the same period of time.

My nervous habit is probably flailing my fingers and playing somewhat of an air guitar. I do this often whenever I am stressed. (its not as profound as perhaps I make it sound)

I have decided to go on FM deprival until the weekend (maybe throw on some Bryan Adams, U2, Eagles, Coldplay, what have you) , Just to maybe experience something different. I guess if it isn't hurting anyone there isn't a problem.

One of my major concerns is that due to listening to it constantly for so long is that I will get bored.

Haha Thought it might be a good idea to get it out there that I am a little nuts hahah

I should be bored by now, but no. So...addiction is such a harsh word.

I prefer to think of it as a lifestyle/hobby/obsession/lifeblood/my bit of magic/study tool/the vision of artistic expression that my brain loves the most.

Aw, hell, don't worry about that. We all suffer that to some degree. I would just kick back & let it happen.

But, the real question is:
Does questioning it make it a problem?? lmao. I mean I hear exactly what you are saying. Here is my dilemma. Frankly I do not listen to FM or Stevie every day. Several days can go by where I don't directly listen to their music. HOWEVER, the name of either the band or my solo fav girl is mentioned on a daily basis. As often as perhaps my husbands or family members or my job skills. What's up with that? ANY spare money I make is directly funneled into FM related purchases and any money that CAN be made or obtained it pre-thought out on a Stevie/FM expenditure. That's sorta sick. Yea, I agree w/ Amber. It's a hobby, passion, lifestyle...but...I dunno, seems over the top at times. Then when there is a flux in SN items, I buy like RANDOM weird FM things in lieu of say a major SN thing that I want, just to keep my collection growing.

On top of all aforementioned, I spend quite a bit of time reorganizing or redisplaying my items. That I figure is due to a weekly arrival of new things, but crap, I don't spend as much time lovingly w/ housework and stuff. lol

Awesome. I'm not as much a spender and collector (your collection is to die for, and I like collections, just don't do much. However, i did buy a few items from Wolfgang's Vault recently)

But haven't I been singing the same songs over and over and over for like, 14 years? Yes, yes I have.
With new songs added...well, you guys know when I just got 4 of Stevie's solo albums last year. There's always been something new (to me) so far - it's been like a lovely 14 year magic carpet delight.
Have I ever stopped singing them, or listening? Only for very short periods.
It's the same, but different.
Also, and I'm sure this goes for a lot of people - it takes all my self control not to sing a mac or stevie song when I hear it. No.matter.where.I.am. And I think I've only NOT sang, like, twice.

I can't even imagine this. Even with the over 900 songs I've got in my collection by Fleetwood Mac or affiliated personnel (Stevie, Lindsey, Chris, Peter, Danny, Welch, Weston and - soon - Jeremy), I think I'd get incredibly bored. My tastes are simply too varied, and there's so much wonderful music out there to discover. I often go several months at a time without listening to anything Fleetwood Mac-related. Then I might listen to an album or two, or put the Mac on shuffle on my iPod, or maybe binge on a steady diet of Mac for a few days. At the moment, except for the unearthed Buckingham Nicks tracks, I haven't listened to any Fleetwood Mac in about two weeks. I've been immersing myself in a lot of old Motown lately, with splashes of electronica and Congolese music thrown in.

On second thought, maybe you ought to stick with the Mac...

oh absolutely, this is me. I have thought this way since I was about 12 LOL. actually back then it was worse, my every waking thought revolved in some way around them. I memorized quotes and little tidbits of info, i shoved them into my brain and learned them in no time, while i struggled to retain anything that was not mac related. it is better now (thankfully!) - i live a fairly normal life (I think..? ) ....but still, in a dead moment i can easily run off some quotes in my head, just to keep my brain busy, and i still collect photos and articles to a pretty ridiculous extent. i really don't listen to them much now, which is weird, but i spent many years listening to mainly their stuff.

i suppose there are worse things to be obsessed with....!

That would depend if you're open to ALL incarnations of Fleetwood Mac or just one. After 39 years of listening to them in all variations, I very rarely get bored with them...but, if I hang on any one incarnation for too long, I do.

there's not a day that goes by that I don't listen to FM/SN at least 4 or 5 hours. I love music and my tastes are extremely varied. I'm never bored. I don't think saying you listen to FM/SN a TON is saying you have limited tastes or don't listen to anything else. 4 or 5 hours a day is a lot, but that leaves a lot of room for other music as well.

I'm totally obsessed with making my collection grow...anything and everything...I want it all...especially live/demos and pictures. I want to be 90 yrs old and flip through all my pictures with a sense of accomplishment.

EDIT: this is not to say that there aren't times when I don't feel like listening to FM/SN. sometimes I'll go a couple of days if I've found a cd I'm in love with. the longest I think was a couple of weeks.

It does?!

Do you listen to that much music every day, or do you just have it on in the background while you're doing work?

typically, while I'm at work (8:30-5) I have Sirius Radio on The Beat, an electronic/dance station or my iPod on shuffle. Then I listen to nothing but SN/FM the rest of the night. Seriously, I listen to my iPod on the ride home (about 30 mins) and at home from like 7-10, when I'm not watching TV.

Well, I'm fairly certain that I've listened to Fleetwood Mac every day for the last 25 years, if not more. Plus all of the other crazy stuff I've done. I prefer to call it a passion. Cause its certainly that for me.
