Default MFBB, B.B., & ZZ @ Telluride Blues Fest

B.B. King and ZZ Top will headline this year's Telluride Blues & Brews Festival set for Sept. 17-20 at Telluride Town Park in Colorado. The 17th annual festival also will feature a special performance by The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band featuring Rick Vito, Lenny Castellanos and Mark Johnstone, according to a press release.

The lineup also includes Allen Toussaint, Galactic, Black Joe Lewis & the Honneybears, and JJ Grey & Mofro, among others.
Telluride organizers plan to announce an additional "special headliner" along with the final lineup on Aug. 16.

In addition to the main concert site, the Telluride Blues & Brews will feature late-night shows at local establishments and afterhours jams. Additional aspects of the fest include the Free Acoustic Artist Series, Blues for Breakfast, The Rainbow Kids area and kids' parade, and the Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition.

Camping and ticket information is available at the festival website.

Mention From Glide Magazine

Joining an already incredible line-up will be The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. Mick Fleetwood, the co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, is celebrating his blues heritage with his new band, The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. The band features a tribute to the original Fleetwood Mac, the all-male blues band that started it all in 1967. At the front of the group is Rick Vito, a veteran bluesman and former Fleetwood Mac vocalist and lead guitarist. Joining Vito will be Lenny Castellanos on bass guitar and Mark Johnstone on the keys and backup vocals. The band is led, of course, by Fleetwood, providing the backbone with his unmistakable power-house percussion and persona.

You can strike "ZZ" from the thread title -- just like they did with the Kansas State Fair, ZZ Top is cancelling this engagement to hook up with the Tom Petty tour.

When the bearded boys stiffed the Kansas St. Fair, it eliminated the MFBB's appearance (the tickets were sold as a double bill), but thankfully, it looks like MFBB is still scheduled at Telluride.

ZZ TOP cancels Telluride visit

Much to the dismay of ‘70s hard rock fans, ZZ Top has cancelled its stop in Telluride for the Blues & Brews Festival in September.

The band, known for their long beards, dark shades and black clothes, has cancelled 22 tour dates this fall in order to tour with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

“This has never happened to me in 17 years,” said the festival’s producer Steve Gumble.

Tom Petty is touring the United States this summer and into the fall to support the upcoming release of his new album “Mojo.”

ZZ Top announced on May 17 they would be sharing the stage with Petty beginning Sept. 16 in Tampa through Sept. 26 in Phoenix.

“I don’t think they were being very up front and honest with these 22 promoters at the same time knew they were negotiating with Petty,” Gumble said. “That’s not the way I do business.”

Gumble and his crew are now brainstorming and looking at all their options to find Friday night’s headliner.
...................

Artists who are still confirmed to play at Blues & Brews include BB King, The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, Galactic, Allen Toussaint, JJ Grey and Mofro and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears.

ZZ Top is looking a bit stinky with these late cancellations. But of course they always looked a bit stinky............

EDIT: On, no, this is making me nervous........the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band is no longer listed at the Festival website!

This is from the Telluride Daily Planet, June 22, 2010

http://www.telluridenews.com/article...9390440303.txt

In more Blues & Brews news, Jimmie Vaughan will replace The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band on Friday night.

Fleetwood was slated to tour with ZZ Top, but their performance fell through when the entire fall tour was cancelled so ZZ Top could tour with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Despite the unexpected changes, the festival has brought in an equally impressive name to replace the former drummer and founding member of Fleetwood Mac.

As Stevie Ray Vaughan’s older brother, and the co-founder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Vaughan’s will bring a rootsy Texas blues that’s heavy on guitar.

Thank you for finding that, Michele (even though it's not what I wanted to hear!) I don't see why ZZ backing out of their commitment would make Mick and the boys also have to back out, but oh well.

The collapse of the MFBB's announced 2010 schedule is puzzling. SJPDG and I have been going back and forth trying to figure out what's going on with the band. Their planned shows have been canceled and there are no new shows announced, no summer festivals, no talk of a new CD.

Is the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band done? Has Mick moved on to some fun new project? Does Rick want to go back to solo work?

Maybe tomorrow on his birthday, Mick will make some announcement about his plans..........
