It’s a community property state, which still would exclude property he had before the marriage and the growth of that property, if he kept it separate from community property. But yes, everything that they accumulated as part of the marriage would be equally divided between them.

so what would be the deal behind asking for spousal support? ongoing guaranteed payments for x amount of time rather than a lump sum???

Were they married outside Calif? Was it in Hawaii? Does that matter or just where they are living now?

It would be their respective states of residency. So it doesn’t matter where they married. But I’m sure you’re familiar with cases where one person moved out of the state so that they could claim they were a resident of another state to help them in their divorce negotiations.

Yes, you don’t have to split an inheritance. As long as you don’t mingle inherited money with community property, it’s yours. Like, if you get money from your dad, don’t use it to remodel the home you share with your spouse. Keep it separate and your spouse can’t get it, in the event of divorce.

I can't see the video, but it sounds like either Lindsey hacked her account or everything's worked out okay!

Maybe it was a problem with one of the kids. If both parents aren't on the same page, it can get ugly. Hopefully they work it out.
