The videos we have never seen
What other songs do we wish had videos? And I mean not just concert recordings but produced videos, like Gypsy, As long as you follow, Big Love, etc. It is true that MTV appeared in August 1981 but before that there were already notable productions such as those by Queen, Abba, Bowie, Blondie, Boomtown Rats and so on.
There are many on my list but the ones that come to mind right now are videos of Love in Store, Sara, Isn't it midnight, Monday Morning.

Neat question. I always thought Warner and FM kind of blew a unique opportunity by not having the band appear in Everywhere- what a great way to introduce Rick and Billy to the audience! I know they were strapped for time because Lindsey’s departure only left less than 2 months to prepare for the tour, but I think it would have paid off. Same thing with Isn’t It Midnight- a video showcasing Rick playing guitar would have been excellent.
Over My Head always kind of reminds me of a day at the fair or carnival, so seeing FM walking around a fair (and before they became famous) would have been easy to do. Can you imagine Lindsey, Stevie, and Christine sitting on a Ferris Wheel or carousel LOL? Sara lended itself to a concert performance- I think a produced video would have diminished the song. |

The most frustrating/annoying thing being a Mac fan in the late 80s and early 90s was the MTV did not air the videos for Everywhere, As Long As You Follow, and Skies the Limit. Back then Vh1 was sort of the easy listening/oldies video channel. You had to hunt them down on Vh1.
After 3 singles and 3 videos, the Mac was busy on tour so that explains the dumb and memberless video for Everywhere. I have ALWAYS thought the Everywhere video should have been taken from their video/live concert that is performed live. I always thought that would have been a hit on MTV to see the band perform live with the new members. I know the band barely could get through the Hold Me video but I wish there was video for Love In Store. It would have promoted the song to maybe even crack the top 10. It was almost unheard of for a single not to have a video in 1982. In some ways the videos made the song more popular than the radio.

More concert footage from the Dave Walker era would be highly appreciated. To my knowledge there is only one video from the Penguin lineup up on YouTube and it doesn't even have any audio.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WndOAs8Lc9M&t=41s To my knowledge, there are no videos of Lindsey Buckingham playing his double neck guitar. Last edited by WalkAThinLine.; 07-13-2022 at 01:10 PM.. |

I really would like to see a performance of Future Games and Sands Of Time, and of course, more with Bob Weston and Bob Welch together!!
Even when I have on my mind an entire version of Mirage on video, more videos of Tusk would have been amazing for their time, but something original, not just the band performing like on the Rumours classics! I can't imagine Love Is Dangerous without a music video with Stevie with her very long hair and a hat and Rick with his pretty guitar!! |

I might be crazy, but I thought at one point I read/heard somewhere that there was video for "No Questions Asked" that got scrapped...?
While they weren't blowing up MTV at that moment, they all looked great and any extra coverage couldn't have hurt.

On first read I agreed, but after second thoughts I think it could be done. It would be a Citizen Kane of music videos. Think Meatloaf's Anything For Love video, but instead Stevie plays a gothic crone, cooped up in a castle turret, singing mournfully at her piano surrounded by candles... Wait, she could just record this herself over Zoom right now.

I wonder if Gypsy would have been nearly as big a hit, if it weren't for that "off the charts" video? I watched it last night for the first time in a long, long time.

and that a new cable television channel called MTV was broadcasting our new videos ("Hold Me" set in desert dunes, "Gypsy" in a Stevie fantasy world). (Mick's first book).

I also don't believe anyone in the band came up with the desert Hold Me theme either. Can someone chime in? They never were crazy about making videos. The record company insisted and hired creative people for the concept. I don't see the band saying....Yay, lets go to the desert heat and film a video. IMHO one reason they were so pissed off about the process is what they had to go through. Didn't John punch one of the directors during the shoot?

I never liked the Hold Me video, it is so simple, I mean it could be filmed in a desert, or in a beach, a garden, etc. and the result would be almost the same.

Yes not long ago the director of the video spilled the beans. They were all in separate tents and it was miserably hot. The band was not getting along which is why you never see them all together in a video shot. Stevie was high as a kite and was sinking through the sand. John was drunk and punched the producer. Sand blowing in everyone's eyes. It was a neat concept though.

I always wished Straight Back and That's Alright had videos.
