Default Beach Boys documentary

It's on Disney + and Lindsey makes an appearance about half way through, talking about the importance of 'art' in making music. It's the bit where they're about the make Pet Sounds. Looks like the Lindsey bit was filmed in the last 2 years.

I was waiting for this doc! Definitely I'll watch it today.

He appears about minute 31 and minute 60. Yes it must be a recent interview, he already has his I am Groot haircut. But most notorious is his voice, I feel it has become notoriously aged.

Tread lightly, Gramps.

Sorry, I unconsciously copied your speak style. Anyway my point was about the hints of how he will act on stage. I think it would take a lot of effort for him

Back to BB I enjoyed a lot the doc. There was another recent doc with Brian too (Long Promised Road), but I can't find it anymore in streaming. That was interesting, too.

I just watched this last night and really liked it. Although they kind of skipped past some things with Brian and Dennis. You got to see Derek Taylor who Stevie wrote about in Beautiful Child. And Lindsey's comments made me think of his work in Tusk. How he was very influenced by Brian. I admit Lindsey is looking a lot older now. The past few years haven't been kind

Haven’t seen the show yet. Will look for it.

Lindsey used to say that the influence Brian had on Lindsey was primarily an existential sort of influence — Brian broke out of a large commercial, mass-market mold and let his personal voice fly without reference to selling albums. It was what Brian did with Smile in 1967 (even though Brian couldn’t finish it) that gave Lindsey the resolve to prioritize personal voice and choices over corporate expectations. I think Lindsey also identified himself closely with the trauma Brian had in his own band.

Of course, you can hear plenty of musical influence, too, in Lindsey’s cuts on Tusk and later solo albums. But Lindsey grew in strength as a songwriter and producer and was able to incorporate a lot of different influences — Brian Wilson, doowop and early rock, small-combo jazz, a little Cramps and Velvet Underground, Warren Zevon (on the Say You Will album). “That’s All for Everyone,” even the rough demos of it, are totally Brian Wilson. Out of all those influences and styles, Lindsey has achieved his own personal voice and the freedom to craft it exactly the way he wants.
