In a sort of similar way Andy Summers tells about The Police playing in LA and Stevie had gotten herself backstage and then positioned herself to be watching (him, it seems like, though he is very discreet in how he tells the story) from the side of the stage. He def implies a hook up, but he's too discrete about it.

She was clearly "legendary" in more ways than one.

The story of how far she'd changed from being discreet to flaunting it for me was the Dave Stewart story about how he showed up in the studio where she was recording and Jimmy told her she didn't know Dave, that he was HIS friend, and she said in front of everyone, "What do you mean? I slept with him the other night"
Btw- I screen shot this entire post, for future reference!

I just want to know how a thread about whether or not Hold Me was Fleetwood Mac's biggest hit devolved into La Nicks flashing her battle worn business ..ewww.

Battle worn business. I'm sitting here having a beer laughing out loud, and people are looking at me now.
Thanks!

You know, after the Great Ledge Implosion of 2007, there were a bunch of offshoot boards from here. One of those was called Threadjackers. Because of the above...

Gypsy, like most Stevie Nicks songs, was more poetic. Hold Me was the catchy pop song. I am surprised that Gypsy didn’t break the top 10 though, peaking at #12.
I used to listen to America's Top 40 with Casey Kasem every Sunday morning, and of course, I was waiting to hear if "Gypsy" had made it into the Top 10. But it "tumbled" to #26 or something like that, and I was DEVASTATED. I think I might have even missed school the next day.

Maybe Stevie actually had a body suit on underneath and the engineer mistook it.

She is a dancer.

So yeah.... Hold Me was a HUGE hit back when I used to run through sprinklers as a kid. I would hear it come out of the radio we had blaring in the yard.

Because THAT really was the biggest hit of all! Like she said in her RRHOF speech, "that's just how it was" when referencing her moving in with Jimmy Iovine rather quickly.

Sorry Stevie

We need to keep "battle worn business" going for a while.

Dreams was most streamed song in the world in 2021. 44 years after its release. By far their most successful. Billboard charts alone don't tell the whole story.

I hear GYOW FAR MORE on the radio than Dreams.

You are missing the purpose of the thread. Yes Dreams is downloaded more and sold more copies and went to #1, Dreams is played more today blah blah blah

Biggest hit in the year of release shows Hold Me dominated the charts more than Dreams

I don’t think they missed the point of the thread, Manfan. I think what they were saying was that, in terms of Billboards rankings, Hold Me may have been the most successful FM single THEN, but it isn’t their most successful single now. History is one of the factors I would use, along with current airplay, which songs are played when introducing the band, or clips played during interviews. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clip of Hold Me played during interviews with the band- instead, we get GYOW, Dreams, Little Lies, Landslide, Don’t Stop, but never Hold Me. If Dreams was really the most streamed song of 2021, I would say that is definitely a factor when asking “is Hold Me the Mac’s most successful single.” Maybe if the title of the thread was “WAS Hold Me the Mac’s most successful single,” then we’d have a different answer.

Are you trolling me? Did you read the title of the thread? Your last question was the title of the thread. I said, "IS Hold Me the Mac's most successful single" Your question suggestion is "WAS Hold Me the Mac's most successful single." Can we agree BOTH mean and convey the same thing?

Regardless of downloads and current commercials, Dreams is on and part of one of the most successful albums in history. Casual people know that is Fleetwood Mac. Hold Me had not even been performed by the band live (since Mirage) until 2017's Buck/Vie tour and then the Mac a year later for a few shows. Mirage is probably the 5's least selling album even though it hit #1. I am not trying to persuade anyone that Dreams is not more popular or known than Hold Me.
I am providing statistics that show in the year of its release, Hold Me was a bigger hit than Dreams was in 1977. Thats it. All this rewriting history and adding current stuff does not take away that Hold Me was a bigger hit in 1982 than Dreams was in 1977. Thats it.

Another interesting statistic is Bella Donna sold better in 1983 than Wild Heart did in 1983. Wild Heart peaked at #5 holding its own with Thriller and Flashdance but then fell like a rock. Bella Donna lurked as a bottom feeder the entire year and finished on Billboard several notches higher than Wild Heart.

I was not trying to troll you, I was just elaborating on the point I thought jcalzaretta was making.

I’m also not trolling you when I say that FM did perform Hold Me during their Mirage tour in 1982.
