The pictures include the 1964 LIFE magazine cover of the Beatles, a photo of George taken by Astrid Kirchherr (on the back cover), a couple of George Harrison and Pattie Boyd and one of George and son Dhani rehearsing together. The photographers whose pictures are used, besides Kirchherr, are Harry Benson, Robert Whitaker and Terence Spencer, plus LIFE's John Loengard and Bill Eppridge. *

Cancer opponents invoke spirit of John and Yoko

MONTREAL — The late John Lennon once noted, while lying in bed in room 1742 of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, that, "Everybody's talking about this-ism, that-ism, ism ism ism."Well now another group has occupied that very room in an effort to get people talking about cancer labeling.Breast Cancer Montreal is borrowing the fabled space to lobby for the mandatory labeling of products that can cause breast cancer. The anti-cancer gang has eschewed the traditional pink-ribbon campaign route but will hardly be lying around John and Yoko bed-in style to push for their cause.

John Lennon re-imagined at TCAN Oct. 7

NATICK —John Lennon asked people to "Imagine" a better world in songs that still touch fans.Award-winning musicians Rex Fowler and Tom Dean will lead an eight-piece ensemble that "re-imagines" Lennon's best-loved songs Friday, Oct. 7, at The Center for Arts in Natick.Appearing two days before what would have been Lennon's 71st birthday, their group called Nu-Utopians will perform hits like "Across the Universe," "We Can Work It Out," "I Am the Walrus" and -- of course -- "Imagine.""We do this out of reverence for John Lennon. This is something I've wanted to do forever," said Fowler. "We're not trying to be the Beatles. Our mission is to play respectful acoustic versions of some of John's greatest hits for our audiences."The concert, "Imagined: Celebrating the Songs of John Lennon," starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available. Fowler, who previously performed at TCAN with Aztec-Two Step, the folk-rock duo he founded with Neal Shulman, said he expects the Nu-Utopians to play two sets of one hour each with an intermission. There will be no opening act. He formed the group with Dean, who sang and played for 30 years with Devonsquare, to "honor the majesty of John Lennon's music."In a telephone interview, Fowler said the group adapted its name from the imaginary country of "Nutopia" which Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono "founded" to promote world peace.

Front Row at Chanel

UNDER THE SEA: Guests arriving at the Chanel show at the Grand Palais were greeted by giant sculptures of algae, whales and seashells, prompting musings about aquatic encounters. “I think if you haven’t nearly drowned in your life, you haven’t lived,” joked Uma Thurman. The actress said she had several movies in the pipeline, including the adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s classic novel, “Bel Ami,” co-starring Robert Pattinson.

Sean Lennon and his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl, both dressed in a Victorian style, were so busy posing for photos that their front-row seats had been filled by the time they got there. Eventually, some space was cleared for the pair, in town for a concert Thursday at the Café de la Danse. “It was very ethereal,” Lennon said afterwards. “I think they should have handed out snorkels for everyone though. I was holding my breath the whole time.” His publishing company, Chimera Library, will release its first book next year, “Invisible Flower,” based on drawings by his mother, Yoko Ono, from the Fifties.

Everybody wants to be the Beatles
With numerous active tribute bands on tour, it’s far easier to catch a Beatles show than when the band was around

There are hundreds of Beatles bands out there, performing Beatles music and sporting funny hairdos. It’s like the Beatles walked into a clone-making machine — and then their clones walked in right behind them.Except, of course, they’re not really The Beatles — they just play them onstage as tribute bands.

An enraged couple have stripped naked to recreate a classic John Lennon and Yoko Ono magazine cover in support of a campaigning lawyer who represented their disabled daughter. Roger Kinsey, 66, and wife Chris, 58, of Ringstead have bared all to highlight Yvonne Hossack’s fight to represent the county’s disabled people, which has cost her Kettering firm £100,000 in the past year. The High Court will today decide whether to re-instate Ms Hossack’s legal aid contract to represent the county’s disabled, which was cancelled after she filled in a form incorrectly. In a statement the couple, who have recreated a 1968 Rolling Stone cover, said: “We were young and full of hope for the future when this magazine cover was released and now, as we reach the autumn of our lives, are saddened that vulnerable people are facing huge cuts in services and may lose this very special champion who dared to challenge cuts on our behalf.”

Tonight's the night! Part 1 of George Harrison: Living In The Material World!!

I don't think I've been this excited to see a Beatle related movie since the Anthology bio-pic was first aired back in the early '90s.

Four Beatles songs also received multi-play awards: Let It Be (6 million), Michelle (6 million), Eleanor Rigby (4 million) and We Can Work It (4 million). “I’d like to say thank you,” Ono said as she accepted the award. “John would have been very pleased. Spotlight on George Harrison in new documentary

Beatle-mania hit the U.S. in the '60s and introduced us to the "Fab Four." George
Harrison, the youngest - and often overlooked Beatle - was not only one of the best songwriters of his time, but also influenced a generation with his spirituality. Thanks to the HBO documentary,*"George Harrison: Living in the Material World," directed by Martin Scorsese, and a book by the same name - with never-before seen pictures and letters released by his wife Olivia Harrison almost a decade after his death - the quiet Beatle is now making a lot of noise. Looking back at Harrison and his life, Ken Dashow, of Q104.3 "Breakfast With the Beatles," tells CBS News, "If you think of the Beatles as a person, you think of Paul as the face and the personality, John is the intellect. George was the soul of the Beatles."

In Scorsese’s TV ode, Harrison remains an elusive Beatle

“George Harrison: Living in the Material World” is Martin Scorsese’s tender examination of the life of the quiet Beatle. It is exhaustive and loopy and it takes two nights to watch — Wednesday and Thursday on HBO.Early on, Scorsese almost does something that would have been heretically bold but also smooth. There is a photograph of the Beatles together in their earliest days, before the Cavern or Hamburg, when it was just a bunch of adolescents in a skiffle band playing at church picnics. A baby-faced Harrison is among them, barely a teenager. That shot is then quickly followed by a scene where, surrounded by lawyers, Harrison and Paul McCartney jovially sign the paperwork that begins the litigiously endless dissolution of the Beatles.

Your welcome Nico. I have some new update.

Gimme Some Truth: Artwork by John Lennon On Exhibit 10/7 -10, 2011.

In celebration of what would have been John Lennon’s 71st Birthday this coming Sunday, Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, in association with Bag One Arts will present Gimme Some Truth, a four-day exhibit of John’s original art work in a pop-up gallery space downtown. On view will be nearly 100 limited edition drawings and song lyrics that John created from 1964 to 1980 – including a never-before seen piece titled On Cloud Nine. My guess is it’s going to be similar to the exhibit of John’s work that I saw in October of 2008. All artwork is for sale with proceeds benefiting City Meals-on-Wheels. A $2 donation at the door also goes to support the programs of this organization, which provides hot meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers. So, head down to Soho this weekend (remember, Monday is a holiday for most) to remember John, see some art and help feed some hungry people!

Gimme Some Truth: The Artwork of John Lennon is on Exhibit at 76 Wooster Street (Between Spring and Broome), Soho, New York City. Hours are as Follows:
Friday October 7th: 12 Noon – 9 PM
Saturday October 8th: 11 AM – 7 PM
Sunday October 9th: 11 AM – 6 PM (John’s birthday)
Monday October 10th: 11 AM – 6PM

5 Movies That Wouldn't Exist Without George Harrison

After giving the deluxe documentary treatment to Bob Dylan (No Direction Home) and the Rolling Stones (Shine a Light), Martin Scorsese now trains his camera on George Harrison for George Harrison: Living In the Material World, his two-part film about the "Quiet Beatle" that airs at 8 p.m. tonight and Thursday on HBO.

Although he was never especially quiet - Rocks Off just read Peter Doggett's You Never Give Me Your Money: The Beatles After the Breakup over the weekend, and we highly recommend it - Harrison was himself a cinephile. After befriending the Monty Python crew, Harrison created the production company HandMade Films to produce their Christ-figure comedy Monty Python's Life of Brian, prompting Python's Terry Gilliam to remark it was the "most expensive script in history."

Julian Lennon's tried to lose traits from Beatle dad John

When he was just five years old, Julian Lennon and his mum Cynthia were abandoned by his Beatle dad John when he disappeared for a new life with Yoko Ono.Subsequently, Julian was understandably hurt when his father said he was an unplanned birth, conceived after too many drinks. When it came to parenting, John Lennon, who’d been abandoned by his own father, was far from ideal. His anger often left his young son hurt and confused. Now 48, Julian is bright, considerate and engaging company as he talks in a West End members’ club. The high forehead suggests where his father’s hairline may have receded to, had he not been murdered in 1980.

But Julian’s delicate and considered new album Everything Changes, his first in 13 years, seeks love and forgiveness to move on from his past. It owes more to the enduring and nurturing spirit of his mother Cynthia than his often fiery, famous father.“I recognise myself in him,” Julian admits. “I have a short temper – I think it’s part of the Celtic background. I used to be a lot more angry, but I was quite discreet with it.

Magician Uri Geller and his tale of aliens and John Lennon: fact or fantasy ?

As part of Examiner's Special Project of "Strange Facts" during October, here is the incredible story I published last year about John Lennon and visits by aliens as told by Uri Geller. The original article is titled Uri Geller's legend about John Lennon and the alien egg: fact or fiction ? Geller claimed that the ex-Beatle had told him a magnificent tale about being visited by aliens in the middle of the night at the Dakota, leaving with him a magical golden egg. Geller showed off the egg, claiming it had magical powers. Since Lennon had in fact seen a UFO in 1974, I had to investigate the claim to see if it was true.

Strange facts: John Lennon's UFO sighting -May Pang describes incredible craft

As part of Examiner's Special Project theme of "Strange Facts" during October, below is an excerpt from my article entitled John Lennon said, " There's UFOs over New York"- remembering his UFO experience on August 23, 1974, published in 2010. It was a significant event in his life, one that he spoke of publically and even reported it on his next album cover. As was Lennon's style, he never shied away from what he saw and experienced in life no matter how controversial. May Pang's recollections are profoundly interesting and her details lend credence to this incredible event. Lennon and Pang were not the only ones who reported that UFO that night.
