All of this is hypothetical. What would have happened if a reunion never happened? In the 2000s concerts exploded with older acts hitting the road making big bucks. Its quite possible she could have made some good coin. But the Mac made her famous and when she needed them the most rebooted her career. With her wild success in 1997 and 1998 let her come forward with lots of details about her personal life that I doubt she would have revealed if she was not another success i.e. klonopin addiction, breast implant removal, etc.

![]() Since we are discussing the Street Angel era, this interview is a must listen. Right as Street Angel is being released, Stevie sits down with 2 morning DJs in LA for an hour long interview. This interview is fascinating for several reasons. Stevie is a great mood and you can sense her excitement to get out of rehab and go on the road again to promote a new album. She is really perky. The DJ guys are morons and while they try to be funny, they are not funny and the typical morning radio guys from the 80s and 90s. In the beginning one of them calls Stevie.....Lindsey. However in their idiocy they do land some very direct questions that few interviewers would dare ask. She is asked directly if she is friends with Lindsey. She then confronts them and asks them what Lindsey said about her. Lots of Prince talk and they make jokes about Prince masturbating to Stevie on the radio
![]() Stevie states that Prince is mad at her and refuses to talk to her but she does not know why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntul_GT28TU

![]() I've never been in the camp of "her career would have been over had it not been for The Dance reunion" - she probably would of eventually regained her health and eventually landed with a stronger management and PR team that would help redefine her as one of the "leading songwriters of Fleetwood Mac" If Fleetwood Mac's last performance had been the '93 Inauguration - I'm not convinced she would be playing stadiums (paired with other acts) like she is today. It would have been a slower climb, requiring a steadier output of successful albums and touring.
There's an entire younger generation that grew up attending Fleetwood Mac shows between '97-'15 that showed up for Stevie. Had that cultivation of her fanbase not happened, I'm betting things would be different. With the rise and popularity of yacht rock/classic rock in general, sure there probably would have been a period in which she headlined some smaller arenas on her own, but it would eventually settle back down to her playing the theatre circuit. In a lot of ways, I wish she would have wound up playing theatres. I think she became increasingly disconnected from her fans and her craft as a result of the massive arena/stadium touring. It has earned her the icon status, but it sacrificed the artist. But that's an entirely different conversation.
