Default Songs Christine should have/could have wrote

There are two songs that I always think of Christine when I hear them. Both lyrically, vocally, melodically and topically, they reek of her style. Her voice is so suited to them. Even by just looking at the lyrics -- which are simple and sparse, but yet impactful -- you could swear that she wrote them:

DAY AFTER DAY by Badfinger

I remember finding out about you
Everyday my mind is all around you

Looking out of my lonely room
Day after day
Bring it home, baby make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Everyday I feel the tears that you weep

Looking out of my lonely gloom
Day after day
Bring it home, baby make it soon
I give my love to you

LET ME ROLL IT by Paul McCartney & Wings

You gave me something I understand
You gave me love in the palm of my hand

I can't tell you how I feel
My heart is like a wheel
Let me roll it
Let me roll it to you
Let me roll it
Let me roll it to you

I want to tell you
And now's the time
I want to tell you
That you're going to be mine

I can't tell you how I feel
My heart is like a wheel
Let me roll it
Let me roll it to you
Let me roll it
Let me roll it to you

"Let Me Roll It " even has some jarring guitar lines between the verses that are very similar to Lindsey's style.

"Days Gone Down" - Gerry Rafferty

This is so like Christine's stuff, it's scary.

I could picture this on Mirage. It really sounds like her early-to-mid 80s period.

I don't usually hear songs that I think Christine could have written, but I hear a number of them I think she should have sung.

"Smile" from Laura Nyro is a good example; as is "Lost"--the opening track on Dusty Springfield's "Brand New Me" album. I always thought she could do a great version of Barbara Lewis's "Baby I'm Yours" with a hundred Christine's backing up her lead vocal. Sometimes my mind wanders.

Totally agree with this one. And because I should be working, I'm gonna close my eyes and try and fully imagine it, right now.

If it doesn't have any celestial imagery (suns, stars, moon, etc.), then it doesn't seem like Christine to me at all.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

Bread - Everything I Own

You sheltered me from harm.
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years i ever knew
Were all the years i had with you

I would give anything i own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything i own,
Just to have you back again.

You taught me how to love,
What its of, what its of.
You never said too much,
But still you showed the way,
And i knew from watching you.
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go.

I would give anything i own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything i own
Just to have you back again.

Is there someone you know,
You're loving them so,
But taking them all for granted.
You may lose them one day,
Someone takes them away,
And they don't hear the words you long to say

I would give anything i own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything i own
Just to have you back again.

That's a good one. Bread was a great group. I sometimes forget about them! The lyrics are very Christine-like. However I think she rarely writes songs with three verses.

Sounds more like a Lucky Charms commercial.

"Not The Only One" (from Bonnie Raitt's Luck Of The Draw)

"I Can't Hold On" (from Karla Bonoff's first album)

Total Control By The Motels with a piano solo in stead of saxofone...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLBZjdrKSpY

Looking counter clockwise
Knowing what could happen
Any moment maybe you maybe even you

Steadfast collapse
Always certain any moment
Maybe you maybe you
Maybe even you
Recline complete dream too sweet
I can't do it not with you
Not even with you
Maybe never with you

And I'd sell my soul for
Total control
Yeah I'd sell my soul for
Total control

Street wet tonight, lovers touch
It's pure delight
Always certain any moment
Maybe even you
Stay in bed stained sheets
My head hurts I repeat
Maybe you maybe you maybe even you

And I'd sell my soul for
Total control
Yeah I'd sell my soul for
Total control
Ooh I'd sell my soul for
Total control over you
Over you
Total control over you

Wow...The Motels! What a blast from the past! I recall them from my college days in the eighties, but I didn't get too familiar with them. However, that clip peaked my interest.

I would never equate that song with Christine's more conservative style -- especially the overt "stained sheets" lyric! Very interesting!!
